Purchased: August 2022 - still works GREAT! ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn I live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment.I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

You'll be pleased to hear that my Meaco DD8L is still working very well after 2 years of operation Chris. I particularly like the Control Logic energy-saving feature. Other features such as the anti-bacterial filter, ioniser, timer, laundry mode etc etc are all great too. Well done on this great unit!

I owned one. It died today. They last just over 3 years. They come with a 3 year guarantee. I had to get it repaired/serviced once before when the main board burnt out. I figured that it was because I put it too close to the radiator. In my opinion the main board doesn't get enough air-flow/cooling so it burns out too easily. They also get clogged up with dust. The filter doesn't filter out the fine dust that inevitably kills it after 3 years. If you put a HEPA filter on it, the fan will overheat trying to suck the air through it. Ionizers also get clogged up with fine dust and stop working after a few years. I'd love to know how to fix it myself but I think I'll just buy a new one, I need to prevent mould in my flat and dry clothes. It reduces my gas bill in winter with the extra warmth it provides, but it takes it out on my electricity bill instead. In summer the humidity reduction makes it feel less muggy in my flat so that even though it produces a small amount of addition heat, it doesn't feel as warm because the air is dryer. The water it extracts is also great chlorine-free good-bacteria-ridden water for watering plants. I seems to extract more water in summer, because the air in summer is more humid. Warmer air carries more moisture than cooler air. For the price it's not a bad deal, although it's a bit disappointing that they don't last longer, or that they're not easier to maintain, or better designed to not overheat too easily or to not have the inevitable build-up of dust inside them.

Absolutely satisfied with the product, and a clear review. Almost bought the compressor meaco economic series but had to wait due stock shortage., and that's when I found about the video. I live in a two and half bedroom house, the damp occurs in the upper floor only in winter.
Just used in the upper floor for three weeks, and there is no damp till now and also no mold. I have read that mold can occur in as. 60% humidity, and condensation in u 90%, so still expecting mold, but if there is none in 1 month, I couldn't be happier. Only wish if there was a bit bigger one.
The machine should be used with all doors open though, or instead as I do use it for two hours in each room before sleep and leave it in the stairway in automatic setting for rest of the time . The electricity bill may cost a bit more but I am less worried about it coz I've had enough with mold.

Hi, thanks for sharing. You're right, normally a heater element has overheat protection like a simple bi-metallic strip. I'm not sure what to believe about the heater element failures... could be a quality issue like the noisy fans. I do think that desiccant dehumidifiers like this are best for UK climate (so many reviews of condenser dehumidifiers icing up and spending a lot of time in defrost mode, even at normal room temperature). The 5 year warranty is good value. Thanks again.

That is the exact same reason I was looking at these videos! The problem with desiccant dehumidifiers seems to be the frequent failure of the heater element, regardless of whether it's the DD122FW model or the newer DD8L. I would still be willing to buy one of these if Meaco would guarantee that they could post me the replacement heater elements when I need them for around £10 so I could replace it myself. I can't afford to be returning the whole unit for repair at a cost of £50 to £70.

So I just purchased one of these, and can confirm that it pulls a lot of water out of the air at lower temperatures even in 45 mins/hour, so much so that it's actually quite scary how much there is! It's not very quiet, and far too noisy on anything other than low fan for being in your bedroom and sleeping through it whilst on. I got one with a free year extra warranty, so three years in total. Not seen my electric bill yet, but at full tilt with 600+w consumption it's not cheap to run for long periods with the current price of electricity. But that's not Meaco's fault. Points I wish Meaco would address: noise level, preset timer should have a quick 30 min mode option too and power consumption if possible to reduce slightly.

    • @MeacoUK
      @MeacoUK  Рік тому

It will switch off when it senses that the relative humidity is 3%rh below the set point. With all humidity gauges the readings are not exact. they are +/-5%rh, so if you see 45, this means that the device believes the actual reading to be between 40-50%rh. Also if the temperature where that device is located is 1°C warmer than the dehumidifier then the reading it sees will be 3%rh lower by default. Because the air coming out of the dehumidifier is 10°c warm,er than the air going in, room hygrometers reading low is very common. Every 1°c warmer that they see is 3%rh lower, so 3°C would be 9%rh lower for example.

Thank you for your purchase. How long it will take depends on how damp the space is in the first place and how much moisture you are adding to the space each day. In a new space this is normally a few weeks depending on the situation.
If it is still running at the 50%rh set point then this tells us that the humidity is still above this point. It would have to get to below 30%rh for you to notice that difference and to feel the effect.
      Hope this helps.

I bought a DD8L two years ago. No complaints about performance, but I do have a problem with product design. I can't clean the air filter because I cannot remove the grill. Unlike all the illustrations and video clips I have seen online, the grill cannot be prised off. Although there are three small objects that look like they might be clips around the edge, the grill and device body seem to be one object - not separable in any way. The printed user manual provides no useful instructions. I like my DD8L. I would like it even more if I could clean the air filter. What should I do next?

@@jimporter What you need to happen in any dehumidifier is for the dewpoint temperature to be reached in order for condensation to form. In a compressor dehumidifier you have to create it artificially because you are running at room temperature. In a desiccant dehumidifier this is not necessary because you have the heater inside the dehumidifier so the humid air is at an inflated temperature. Unfortunately the DD8L last only 3 years with a two year guarantee.
I have had three in 10 years, the last one has lasted longer as it had a fault in warranty and had a clean for £20.
The first two units faults were the motherboard burning out
The last one I believe was the heater element which as I said also had a clean.
This is now acting up again after under 4 years of use with a loud clicking noise as the fan rotates.
I have been told they might not be able to repair this machine as the newer machines have been upgraded, hopefully to last more than 5 years so they stop becoming not fit for purpose after only 2-3 years of use.
It is a shame the 20% discount Meaco give you buying direct is not taken off the price that they are sold for on the internet from places like Appliances Direct as the difference in cost is only £2 when it should be nearer £10.
It is a nice little unit though albeit the short life expectancy.

    Hi there Chris!
I understand that this is an old video and you have probably learned this by now, but in case you missed it the type of dehumidifying technology does not change the amount of heat which is produced. The only thing which is affecting that is the power consumtion of the machine. If you have a DD8L running at 300W and compare it to another compressor based dehumidifier running at 300W the amount of heat produced in the room is exactly the same (300W).
If you are using the room heating-salespitch on anyone who still remember their physics they will probably think that you don't know what you are talking about and not listen to you any more. I have a DD8L and it is working great so I suggest you avoid this in the future as it is a great dehumidifier. You could argue that the DD8L is better at drying clothes since the heat is directed in a specific direction (up) with a fan, so you could put it under the clothes you are drying but that is probably not a great arguement as well since this is specifically said that you should not do in the instruction manual.
The reason I got here was that I was trying to figure out why the dehumidifier goes into some kind of "zombie-mode" when the air temperature goes below 10 degress. This is even mentioned in the manual. Why is this? Why wont it function normally? The manual says it still functions normally but I cant agree. The fan speed is increasing and you cant change any setting. Why would a humidifier built for dehumidifying at lower temperature stop working at lower temperatures? Makes no sense to me. :)
    Best regards,
    Gustav

Hi, That is what I'm trying to make you stop saying. If a machine consumes x watts, that is the amount delivered to the room unless you in some way remove energy and move it to some other room. (Which is not the case) Ask you engineering friends and they will explain it. If you try this argument with anyone who has studied physics they will dismiss your sales pitch as pure nonsense because of this kind of minor, but really annoying error. :) Even a 100W refrigerator will produce 100W heat to the room over time. There is no such thing as lost energy. It all becomes heat.
But it is true that a desiccant dehumidifier will add more heat to the room due to its generally less efficient way of removing the water. It will have to run longer to remove the same amount of water. (Unless the conditions are in favor for the desiccant model with eg. lower room temperature.)

If you have a closed room and put a 100W refrigerator in it the room the room will, in the big picture, heat just as fast as putting a 100W light bulb in the room, or a 100W fan, or a 100W dehumidifier. Energy just changes form as the first law of thermodynamics states. It doesn't matter that it just because it is transferred into mechanical motion (moving air in this case) for a while that motion is also turned into heat. In this case as friction between air and other things in the room such as air and objects.
