      @@TheEverythingYoville sooo I have 2 undergrad degrees...the first one is unrelated to SLP, and was under a 3.0. 🥴The second one (in Speech and Hearing Sciences) was a 3.8. This is a career change for me, so I have a full time leadership experience for over 3 years vs extracurriculars. I opted for 4 letters of recommendation vs the typical 3 that are required. Lastly, I strategically chose schools that aligned with my values, and included an interview process, because the idea of a school choosing me solely based off my paper application just made me nervous. But...everyone is different. If it's what you want, do your research and go for it. You got this 💗

    Stumbled upon your video while I was looking for something else, related to SLP and dysphasia. Good for you for working hard to pay down your debt. I am a recently retired after 30+ years as an SLP. And yes you are correct, when you get burned out in one area you can switch to another. I worked in skilled nursing, adult daycare, specialized skilled nursing for Huntington’s patients, and home health. Now that I have retired, I’ve totally switched things up and I am taking a stab at UA-cam in the make up subscription box niche. Have a great week😊 you give a good inspirational motivational basis to those that are coming up in the SLP training.

I've decided to switch my major to CSD but I've been super nervous about applying to grad school for SLP. I've heard how difficult and competitive it is. Do you think someone with a 3.6 has a chance to get accepted into a master's program? I just don't want to get rejected from all of the schools I apply to and have no backup plan. But this really is my dream.

    • @TSlater_
      @TSlater_  2 роки тому +1

      So happy to hear you are applying to graduate school to become a speech-language pathologist ! I believe with a 3.6 you do have a chance of getting accepted into a master's program. I was rejected the first year I decided to apply for the master's program. The second time I applied, I decided to apply to twice as many schools as I did the first time. I was wait listed at two schools, then eventually both schools offered me an acceptance letter. My greatest piece of advice for you is to apply to as many schools as possible. You may have to apply to schools that are out of state as well. I am rooting for you. Please keep me posted on your journey and let me know if you need anything else Sarah !

    question: Aren't travel SLP jobs for about 18 weeks at a time? How did you keep 2 PRN jobs while away?

    • @TSlater_
      @TSlater_  Рік тому

      Most travel positions are 13 weeks long . However you can find some travel positions that are shorter or longer . My travel position required me to work 4 ten hour days . So I worked Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. My off days were Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday . So I would usually work my PRN jobs on Saturdays and Sundays .

    I only have an AA, sped cert, & trying to find an undergraduate program that would be relevant to SLP. I’m currently an RBT, was going for teaching, but not for me. I’m worried about my gpa currently from cc, so I also need to bring my grades up through my future bachelor program and then try to apply for communication disorder/slp graduate program. Im so far away, it’s my dream job but just stressing about the obstacles.
    Uh Manoa in Hawaii is pretty hard to get into for grad school. Do you think an online masters degree would be of worth?

    Hi I’m in my fourth year of getting my Bachelor’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
    I really am worried about graduate school! What GPA do they want and what extracurriculars and work experience? My cumulative GPA right now is 3.8 and I could try to improve it but do you think I have a chance with the GPA I have now?

    • @TSlater_
      @TSlater_  2 роки тому +1

      Hi ! Congratulations for making it to your four year of the CSD program . That’s definitely a huge accomplishment . Each school has different requirements for their program . I was accepted into graduate school and I also had a 3.8 GPA . I definitely do think you have a fair chance of being accepted . Apply to as many schools as possible . I was wait listed for all the programs I applied to, then I was finally offered an acceptance into two of them ! Good luck ! Keep me posted ! I’m rooting for you !
