    Tutorial on how I use Roland GR-55 & Boss RC-300 as a powerful live looping setup. I'm talking about the sounds I use, how to set up the midiclock to sync the tempo, how to arrange songs for looping. And finally I play a little song that takes you through the things I talk about.
    Hope you enjoy :)

    Hi Per, I know you posted this a long time ago and I’m a little late to the party, but just wanted to personally thank you for the time and trouble you took to post this. I have both of these pieces of gear and this was really, really helpful and well explained. I’ve watched this video at least 10 times and really gotten a lot from it. You are not only a talented musician, but a great teacher as well. I also like your songs and arrangements.
    Your approach of looping a 2 bar phrase of floating guitar that will work over all changes in the song is simple, but brilliant as well.
    Please post some more videos of your playing a looping sometime. Would love to see them.
    Many thanks Per!

    Struggling trying to get my GR-55 and looper talking to each other. Best video I've seen for instruction (out of many). I've been playing over 50 years and have an "old guys" sense when it comes to tech learning curves. Thank you for your kindness. Bless you... Eph. 5:1,2

    Per, thank you very much for this extremely informative video. I'm considering purchasing an RC-300 and I'm trying to get my head around what all it can do. You really showed a lot more than that by combining it with the GR-55. I appreciate how clearly you demonstrated each step and had a zoomed in picture-in-picture to let us see exactly what you were doing. Nice job. Thank you! I wish you well.

    Hi Per,
    I have been on and off trying to work with an RC-300 and GR-55. I have a very similar setup - except I use a Presonus mixing board as my sound card. I just want to say what a lot of other folks have said - you have taken this to a new art form! Your musical skills and your technical skills are tremendous. I am a lifelong guitarist myself, I love your playing on this cover. In fact aI also have a couple of Godin guitars, the Multiac Nylon string and the LGXT steel string electric - both have the midi pickup. I run them both through an AxeFX that I put into the loop with the other two main devices. Great fun - I just haven't done much with the setup that I would call music yet, just too much of a learning curve to all this gear. But I am getting nearer retirement, so maybe in a year or two - after all this stuff is completely obsolete, I will have the time to learn it the right way. :-) Anyway - I didnt mean to make this about me - wanted to say thanks for your posts. They are fantastic!
    Joe

      Just remember the GK3 and Piezo pick ups are 6 channel acoustic not midi. The midi side gets processed inside the GR55.

    Now thats what I call a tutorial ,it gives you a good insight on how to teemup your multi effects to this looper station and set it up in a real live situation, then demoing it at the end, that was great man! I hope this rubs off on these other reviews! Its a shame some people don't know what a real review is...Anyway hats off to you my man! You should get more reviews because you deserve it . "Rock on"

    Very helpful. Thanks! I wanted to mention, in case it might be helpful to you or someone watching this, that the GR-55 provides a MIDI map feature that can map any program change event (e.g., PC #4) received from the RC-300 to any location on the GR-55.

    • @perhaar
      @perhaar  10 років тому

      Hi. The way that the RC-300 is transmitting PC does, for some strange reason, not work with the PC mapping in the GR-55. That is why I came up with the workaround in the first place :)

    I use mine as a "3 stereo tracks multi-tracker" (albeit with infinite overdubs). It really doesn't take many songs to max out the hd space on the unit if you do full songs. Fortunately, you can backup onto PC, but, it takes a while. Lovely piece of gear though. I use mine with a Boss ME70 plugged-in, then, from RC300 out into a Roland Cube 20xl. More than loud enough for bedroom rocking/chilling. Shure SM58Beta mic works nice with it aswell as do electric drumkits.

    Per Haar, I know this may sound kinda freaky but please don't take it that way. I go to sleep almost every night listening to and watching various performances on my iPhone, and yours, including that live performance you did at a pub or bar of approximately 43 minutes, are always on my viewing list.

    I guess that by now my only remaining question is: That function where you press the "STOP" button on the RC300 to activate the tap tempo is it Facoty designed or do I have to make any manual configuration? I am not at home right now to try it, but maybe you could help me out with that little one! Thank is advance, you are amazing.
