President should come out with a AM/FM/SSB handheld radio. The only one currently on the market is the Albrecht AE 2990 handheld and it's showing its age now. We need an updated Multi-mode handheld radio. I would buy that before a base station!

I plan on ordering one to use for a base station. This will more than fill my needs for a cb radio. I like that it has CTCSS & dcs tones like my Harrison has.

Definitely agree with you on some sort of Base Station. Also agree with the retro look on a new future model. I bought the Richard solely because it has the old school S-meter and absolutely love that radio. As far as criticism from some about this looking like a 980? It absolutely does and truth is I love my 980. Always wanted the Grant II with the same look but was never able to get one. So I’m definitely glad they put this one out in the US market. I’ve got 4 new President radios, 5 once I get this one and enjoy them all. Thanks for your two cents always enjoy your reviews/observations/opinions on the different radios.

Looks like a good and solid build quality, can be a bit difficult to find a good amp to pair with. For AM use you would really have to turn down the deadkey quite a bit. For SSB only you would need some sort of a driver unless you are using something like an LDMOS.

    • @ScottsRadios
      @ScottsRadios  6 місяців тому +2

I tried it with a KL203P and it works fine. 2.5 watt dead key was giving about 35 watt dk with amp on in AM.
Probably could put full output of it into a KL 503 HD.

I just bought my 980 ssb. Haven't had. Ssb radio since early 90s... love the look
Like the push buttons on radio instead of switch. Nice big. S.meter. you can see.
Already had. Peak and tune. No power house radio but thats fine. . Weather channels is nice.
Receive is about 7 miles. When RF.gain IS AT 5. But have it at 3 for. RF. Gains. Because of RF . junk coming through speaker.. so thats gonna cut Receive down to almost 50%. So. 3.5 miles Receive... need to have filter put into power line. Take care of RF junk coming through.

This is the nature of CB radio these days.
Also on ham radio we have a problem with noise level.
It's not necessarily the radios fault. Everything else around it will negatively affects what the radio hears.
Basically too many low quality pieces of electronics being used in homes and businesses that generate a lot of dirty RF into the RF spectrum.
Our radios pick it up and there's nothing we can really do except like you say try to filter it out.

      On my normal power cord.
      Have 3 donut magnets
      2.5 inch donut magnet.
Have power cord wound around. Each one. Diy. Rf choke .
      It helps a little bit...
Since I have. External speaker hooked up.
And lot of wire from it.
Gonna do donut magnet rf choke on that also. See if it helps out.

What's a good extension speaker. I have a bearcat bc20 speaker and it's terrible for sound quality.
All low tones. No high tones. Flat muffle sounding...
Checking out the Motorola external speaker think 5 inch speaker is the way to go . Think the square Motorola speaker is 5 inch... seeing it 4 around 50 bucks on internet

    • @ScottsRadios
      @ScottsRadios  6 місяців тому

Try to get a West Mountain Clear Speech cLRdsp. Then you can plug any speaker you want into it and you can adjust the tone and filter settings on the west mountain device.
I don't like speakers that have built-in tone or filter settings because they're usually not very adjustable.

I'm curious to see what the device looks like on the measuring devices in its original state with a little modulation increase and a maximum of 50 watts. I think it would be a very good device for 11m. You only hear good things about the George 2 73s and Happy New Year from Germany💥✨

I think this looks like a "very nice" radio but it's not what I would want, especialy for mobile. I'd LOVE to see them come out with a simple layout SSB capable radio for mobile use. Something like a Walker but with SSB. Just give me basic controls with SSB so I can reach up and change the channel and not worry about inadvertently pushing one of ten buttons if I hit a bump in the road while I am adjusting the radio. Give me knobs for Channel, Volume, Squelch, Mode, Mic Gain, and Clarifier (maybe RF gain too); a few slide switches for ANL, NB, High Cut; and NOTHING ELSE. NO FLUFF FEATURES, NO EXTRAS.... just a simple radio that works. President, please make a nice, simple, functional SSB capable radio for mobile use. I like the McKinley but it uses too many multi-function buttons.... again bad for mobile, especially in a commercial truck. Great video, thanks for the info.

The President George is a very nice Radio don't get me wrong. But for the price I would still rather have a President Lincoln. Just because you get more options and a little more power an extra channels. I know not everyone wants a high-powered radio with extra channels but the two radios are very close in price.

lol President will never stay with one model for long, how many different models have they produced in the last 2 years both AM/FM or AM/FM/SSB, I honestly don't think The Base version of radios is still needed, yes some folks still go for a good Base station, we are now in a compact generation, mobile with a power supply and an amp or a radio with everything pushing a lot of power, most CB owners that need a base go for the Ham radio converted to CB, one of the top selling radio is the ICOM 7300 purchased more by CBoperatoes than Ham operators, the older Base are just nostalgic

      I respect your opinion.
I don't agree with all of it though.
I would say to anyone who is using an HF radio for CB only.
"Start studying and get licensed and use the radio to its full potential."
      They are fantastic radios.
It's amazing what you can do with a radio like that on the amateur bands with limited power.
      Happy New Year 🎊

President wanted their U.S. radios to conform to FCC 47 CFR Part 95 Subpart D.
European radio standards are different and do not conform to U.S. standards.
