The very best footballer I've ever seen. The most complete player and so incredibly unassuming and modest.
As a West Ham fan, and from first hand experience as a spectator, I watched Colin Bell play against us in the early 1970`s at Upton Park and for Englands 7-0 win at Wembley against Austria in 1973 - he was a unassuming swashbuckling, strong, althletic and skillful player who could time his runs to perfection,....he would walk into any of todays premier league or continental europe teams with ease + my late father who witness the great 1930`s Arsenal sides from the 1930`s also rated him very highly + Malcom Allison (former Hammer) was no fool when he scouted him for Man City.

I am 55 years old (nearly 56) I have been a CITY fan since I was 3 years old, that's 1968! When CITY were English Champions, and UNITED were European Champions! My Family are all lifelong CITY fans, so no matter what, I was always gonna follow suit. The First two words that I learnt about our club were ; Manchester City! The second two were ; Colin Bell ! I was lucky enough to be at the city v Newcastle game in 1977. Has a city fan i have experienced lows and highs of being a lifelong Manchester City fan. I was at the game when sergio scored the winner when city won the league. However, the comeback of Colin Bell was very special. When he came on the pitch at half time It felt like someone had plugged the stadium in the whole atmosphere was electric. RIP King Colin
I remember Colin Bell playing against our German Team. He was running down the field all day long, a fair player, great player. Rip Colin Bell.
Was lucky enough to seen him play at Maine Road. Truly one of City’s greats!

Jack was right I was at that game as well , I have been to many games past and present to watch Manchester city and Crewe Alexandra. Been to cup finals but the atmosphere from half time that day was unreal when Colin came on , never been in it since or ever expect to again . RIP Colin a sad day .
Make no mistake Colin Bell was an exceptional player. and I am not a city fan. RIP
Villa Fan, As a Kid remember on BBC Grandstand they would often replay that horrible tackle from Martin Buchan the Utd skipper, that basically ended his career. He tried so hard to come back but he was a shadow of himself before the injury.

That was my first ever city match i attended boxing day 1977 city beat Newcastle 4-0..My dad took me as his method of institutionalising me into the city family household where the colour red was banned..
I was 4 so sadly missed most of Colin's greater years that he played and being so young when he had to retire early meant I can only remember a couple of memories of his greatness and like the caller one of those is the standing ovation he got on his long awaited come back after not 1 but 2 similar career threatening injuries within 3 seasons one to each leg which explains why he could barely run in his final couple of seasons at city and its was noticeable from the terraces at Maine road that his left leg in particular kind of healed cruckidly and it wasn't until after he's retired he had another operation to correct this to prevent being crippled and confined to a wheel chair for the rest of his life...
I've been a season ticket holder at city since 1987 and the decade before that attended half the games each season with my dad..Home and away for decades I've met thousands of city fans, lots who have had the privaledge to see Colin Bell play and many more that haven't with mostly those that wasn't lucky enough being very envious of the fact they wasn't alive to see this legend/King play,even with the many recent great city players that have cemented their own status symbols in city's folklore and history which these fans have been Lucky enough to see yet still rate Colin Bells impact and ability as a footballer as the GOAT at city..
You could ask a hundred top pro footballers who also played football for various clubs during Colins finest seasons with city that are still alive today who in their opinion was the best player in England at that time and most if not all would say Colin Bell..
A true gentleman,a humble and laid back character and kind nature that was rare in the late 60s and early 70s when
football was imploding into a major business as TV started airing the first live games in UK homes and ticket prices rapidly increased creating the first wealthy salaries for the top players who then also took advantage and some tripled their annual income by staring in tv adverts for various popular brands thus the first image rights were created off this..
Colin had hundreds of offers to put him self in the public eye away from football but chose not to because he always stated as a youth player starting his career at Bury that he would not let temptations of grandeur distract his commitment to being the best professional he could be every time he stepped on a pitch and I believe this was mainly due to the clear destruction that was to be the late great George Best's future from the distractions that fame generated for him in the public limelight which clearly impacted on his carreer choices several years earlier..
No one at city ever had a concern that a similar scenario could possibly occur with all the attention and offers to entice Colin to make lots of extra money early because here was a pro footballer at the top of his game being offered a top of the range Jaguar car for free yet would rather ignore the flashy cars by choosing cycle to training and for match days too..
The fact Joe Mercer used to demand he put his bike in the back of his or another players car after games in particular as precaution of a random muscle injury happening said it all about his dedication for fitness and commitment to being as true a professional as you'll ever see that's ever played pro football..
Sadly another great legend of the game has passed and one of which many thousands of city fans and neutral fans are mourning...
His legacy will live on within man city for ever and not only does he have a whole stand at the Etihad stadium names after him but he's about to have a bronze statue made in his honour at the stadium..

Colin was a proper gentleman my late wife and I used to go to his restaurant in Whitefield called the BellWaldron he would greet us as if we were friends yes we did go often but you were made to feel special and what a player put Kevin DB with Rodri plus Rice you might have the player King Colin was absolutely brilliant love him
