03:00 Just a tip while selecting language and region choose same as currently installed windows otherwise option for keeping apps and file will be disabled.
Nice to know some options other than reset. All my windows units are imaged frequently. I use redo, and sometimes clone, zilla, noting that in the image description recently. I had a windows 10 unit go through a Windows upgrade, and completely corrupted, the solid-state drive (boot drive not found). Used redo to partition, format, restored and within an hour, I was up and running again.
Excellent. One trap, double check your language before starting down load. I was us-english but downloaded english international. Deep into the update process it prevented me from saving apps as language was different. Had to start over. But finally what a joy to have a responsive system one more. Thanks again.
Besides preserving progs & files, does it preserve all your settings (start menu, Taskbar etc)? ??? SFC - DISM - Restore points ??? Of course the best answer is periodic backups. Thanx Brian 👍👍👍
Thank you so much! I’ve gotten a virus that fucked my computer up, which then fucked with my windows and wouldn’t work with windows services, so updating windows or even running windows apps like Microsoft store and xbox was impossible. I’ve tried cleaning it with AV, cleaning regedit, you name it I’ve tried it- no luck. This has resolved my issues and I really appreciate it!
I also agree that the default Windows Recovery is a big mess. From my personal experience repairing Windows computers, I often find that problems MAY lie under our own very nose. So here is the procedure I personally follow: A. Download Bleachbit portable edition Restart in Safe Mode Run Bleachbit Run Disk Cleanup Delete files in the %temp% folder From CMD run: Chkdsk C: /f Then do a Normal Startup B. If this did not fix the problem I download a French AV program called Adlice RogueKiller as it offers a Portable option. I also download the file containing the latest updates and perform a Quick Scan. One can also run a Full Scan whilst in Safe Mode... Totally optional. C. If the above fail, my last attempt to quickly fixing a Windows computer are the SFC & DISM commands Edit: I also carry a pen drive with Bleachbit Portable, Adlice RogueKiller Portable & the latest Signature Database
Nice to know this, had a problem with Win-11 awhile back and used the reset options which did work but this way would have been alot better, Thankyou Brian
Check this out if you don't have "Mount" option on Win11 From PC-Mag: This is usually a simple process, but sometimes a third-party program can disable the built-in Mount command so it doesn’t appear in the menu. If this happens, you will need to reset your default program to bring the command back. In Windows 11, go to Settings > Apps > Default Apps and click Windows Disc Image Burner in the list of apps. Click the name of the third-party program and change it to Windows Explorer. PC Mag: How to Install a Software Program From an ISO File
All I did was move a damn drive and all hell broke loose. Went from loading to "Can't find a loading operating system". Put the drive back to the original, it works. put it back to the new system. It works... Put another drive... all hell again... Thank you!
I tried this and I didn't get the option to 'Keep personal files and apps' - it was greyed out. I only got the option to 'Keep personal files only' or 'Nothing'. So beware! Make sure the option to 'Keep personal files and apps' is available!
Great video. Unfortunatley I have had to use this method before but fortunately it was your video that I used before to fixed my problem. You have so many useful videos.Thank you very much!
Great video 😀 . Thanks a lot for it. I have a two questions after viewing your videos 1- Can we use a USB drive instead of a DVD to re-install over the existing windows 11 ? 2- Can all the commands in version 10 that you posted on this site using "command mode (cmd)" , can be used securely ?
Thanks man it worked realy well, i accidentally deleted my the path files from my pc and could not get it back (even with getting it back from powershell) it just didnt work. but with this method it fixed my windows thanks a lot man
First, please forgive me if somebody asked about this in an earlier comment. I have always seen this method mentioned as if it was a last resort. Based on your (eloquent) description, this is not hazardous and could be used earlier in the problem-solving process or even once a year as a prophylactic procedure. On many occasions, I have encountered Windows problems for which suggested solutions involved time-consuming diagnosis, sometimes using third-party programs, and many time-consuming commands at the command prompt or other complicated, time-consuming suggestions. Only at the end, after everything else failed, was this method mentioned, or I opted to try it on my own. Would it be more appropriate to use this technique once some of the simpler and quicker solutions have failed rather than running through multiple time-consuming, complicated proposed fixes? Thaks for the great video!
When i contacted microsoft support the agent went through a couple simple fixes while none worked and then he resorted to this. This didnt work as windows apparently recently updated so it was saying i couldnt download the version of windows the iso was trying to retrieve so then he wanted me to repair windows which would remove all my programs and apps which i was not willing to do. So long story short microsoft support used this as a last resort and probably for good reasons however he did mention that this is usually the solution to most peoples issue that hes talked to
A good video Brian and just as a matter of interest I remember once you saying that you need to download the same language version as was installed in the first pace or else the installation will not go ahead? The other thing is that I did delete the Windows old file/folder but found that it still appears in the listings of what I have on my laptop is this normal or what? Anyway I am still a great fan of your videos mate from the days of Windows 7 - keep them coming they make my day😉
I just reset my windows with all my data and this helped me fix all my stutters in games and it fixed all my issues I was having. While DISM SFC only said that there was no fix available. So yes, there is a difference.

Thank you, wish i saw this earlier as i reset my pc completely and windows still had corrupted files, but this seemed to work just fine and i dont have to reinstall eveyrthing again
Tried this but but will not proceed, I get a message like "Windows is in a wrong drive or you are installing an older version of Windows". This is strange
In place upgrade can be useful, but not if something about the system is clearly broken. On an older install I messed with the WindowsApp folder and there is literally no way to write any data in there, even with taking permissions and ownership, at most you can delete, and never restore. In place upgrade didn't fix the issue. Had to complete reinstall.
Wow, that's amazing!! One additional question, does installation require internet connection at the early stages? Cause the problem for me is it's inability to connect to the internet
Just a shout to anyone getting the 'Keep Personal Files and Apps' option greyed out, this basically means you have downloaded a windows version with a different language pack to the one that is installed so worth checking that first before downloading the ISO (i.e. under Language & region of current OS)
Followed all your instructions and the Windows 11 installation still failed. I've been having issues with Windows Update failing, so I tried your steps, but even that failed. I've done so many different troubleshooting steps that I'm out of ideas. 😭
I'm sure you've tried this too but there's a way to delete all installs manually, I had to do that once in the same situation. Google "manual uninstall of Windows updates" once everything was out of there it fixed itself. Hope you figure it out!
Can this be done to get yourself off of the windows insider program and back on to the production release of windows 11 and still keep all of your programs and files in place?

This does not work in my hands. C reated the usb bootable stick using the windows 11 media creation tool but there options are install or repair. 2:01 It’s looking like very bad judgment on Microsoft’s part to release Windows 11 with all these bugs in in starting with that blue colored toilet paper image for its startup image. Someone at Microsoft must have had COVID-19 as inspiration for that image. Imagine have a roll of blue colored toilet paper and throwing it up in the air and it unrolls on it’s way down and that image is what you get. For Windows 10 users, it might be worthwhile to spend the money on extensions for 3 more years and jump to Windows 12 hoping that, that system will work better.

you can mount an ISO file from the command line in Windows 11 using PowerShell. Here’s how you can do it: Open PowerShell. You can do this by pressing Windows + R on your keyboard to launch Run, then type in powershell and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter1. Use the Mount-DiskImage command to mount your ISO file. What do you do if your windows problems doesn't let windows start up. Login screen, enter password, black screen. Did the command screen, scannow , it says it repaired corrupted files. Try to restart, same problem. Over and over, same process, same problem. Windows is a bad OS, always has been, always will be. Every upgrade is just giving a pig a makeover. SAME,SAME
so far i am not finding 11 too bad. just the normal niggles about the start menu plus i do not like the changes to the taskbar icons for open windows not being a fixed width like in they were before.
Windows 11 is OK
What do you do if your windows problems doesn't let windows start up. Login screen, enter password, black screen. Did the command screen, scannow , it says it repaired corrupted files. Try to restart, same problem. Over and over, same process, same problem. Windows is a bad OS, always has been, always will be. Every upgrade is just giving a pig a makeover. Its always gonna be a pig. No offense to pigs intended.
so will my programs and everything else on other drives be deleted doing this ?
I am lost for words, it's not even broken.
keep it up man thanks
what if windows is not booting anymore ? there is no fix for that !
