No need to imagine the phenomenon. They can be viewed from the ground when looking at a thunderstorm from a distance. People that chase storms have posted videos of them.
@rockergod789 how frequent are TLE’s will it be something the average person will see if they look at a few storms or is it very rare and happen like once every one hundred storms? Are there any other phenomenons like this? Thanks
@@armyalooftv7481 its uncommon enough that seeing a TLE event is a bit exciting; unless you know what you're looking for and where to look, you're not going to see it. Other phenomena? Uhh... not really? I did see ball lightning one time... that's all I can think of at the moment.
anyone else like standing outside when the air is electrically charged and it's thundery?. The skies are just like a moving canvas, it's amazing. There's clouds and then there's storm clouds, just point a camera upwards and click. Much more exciting than watching TV.
I'm in Romania right now and the biggest thunderstorm I've ever seen just started, two years ago I spent two hours trying to photograph lightning and I barely saw a lightning bolt every roughly two minutes, there are 10 lightning bolts per second every direction I look now, I'm kind of concerned but also very, very, very interested and I just remembered red sprites and I wish I had a good spot to look at the lightning in hopes I see a red sprite, I'm sure they're happening right now because this storm is insane.
That is not a coincidence, the acronyms were retrospectively selected to represent the original description of 'sprite'. Ever since meteorologists have retained the practice of naming the TLE effects in terms of mythological creatures.
The first time I've heard of a Red Sprite, Blue Jet and Green Elve, was from Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, they were the names of the special armored vehicles sent into the land of ruin.
As I understand it... A "spark" requires a source of electrons. In some cases a high concentration of protons can cause a spark but that needs a plasma, like a plasma torch. Or a negatively charged, relative to the plasma's positive charge, planet spinning in a plasma field from say a star of some kind. If the planet had a non conductive atmosphere of say mainly nitrogen, it would take a massive build up of energy to "spark the gap". But if the atmosphere occasionally filled with a conductive medium like H2o, clouds... Protons could breach the upper part gap allowing for a capacitor effect. Thinner atmosphere = less resistance. Remove the lower atmospheric resistance with rain from time to time and it go BOOM! The capacitor discharges. Yes, no?

by the time this video came out ghosts were still not discovered!!!! check another youtube channel from a guy named Pecos Hank. he tells the story how he and another guy discovered Ghosts.
How cab you possibly watch those burst, and reflect, and still show a globe?? What do you think the reflection above them are forming from?? The black of "space?" Where has common sense find m gone to?
@@itsargonlol trolls would be ground lightning ghost would be ball lightning and gnomes and pixies are just some random dwarfs watching you outside your window at night as you sleep
This is why we don't get alien invaders. They'd take one look at the sparks and discharges going on around the globe, then decide it's too dangerous; wouldn't you?
If they've travelled through an enormously vast void of nothingness that is constantly trying to kill them, a little lightning is nothing they can't deal with :P
Pretty sure Elves and Halo's are different, Elves are bigger(200-400kms) and halos are smaller, about a third of the size and with no ring in the middle Then again I am no expert so take my words with a grain of salt, a large grain
Not really accurate though, TLE events are the result of nitrogen ionisation caused by the charge separation between the tops of thunderstorms (from large positive discharges) and the ionosphere. Lightning is more of a static discharge, really TLEs would be closer to an 'inter-atmospheric aurora' than a lightning event. The difference in vitro is static discharge from a tesla coil compared with burning molecular nitrogen.

HIS DEFINITION OF LIGHTNING DOESN'T MIND TOO WELL FOR LIGHTNING WITH NO STORM OF THE FAMED "BOOT OUTTA THE CLUE",MEANING LIGHTNING IN A CLEAR SKY.. MAYBE IT'S JUST ME..
Wrong. Folks, this guy is an actor working for ABC. All he knows is the script he's reading from. In the real world, not school books, electricity shoots upwards from the ground. Slo-mo photos have been showing it for decades. The lower atmosphere is denser, upper atmosphere thinner, allowing it to reach flash point quicker than lower air, much like a pint of water boils faster than a gallon. That's why our eyes see the upper atmosphere flash sooner. Static electricity has nothing to do with lightning. Rub a balloon on wet hair & see how much electricity is produced. Zero. Storm clouds are full of water, nullifying static electricity phenomena. There is no lab experiment re-producing the static electricity causes lightning theory anyway.
Why not just tell the truth and tell us they come from the firmament? Bill Nye even said the earth is a closed system and that we can't leave the earth
That quote was taken out of context. He only said that as a reponse to someone asking why don't we shoot trash into space, and his response was that it would hinder or even totally prevent space travel (as the garbage would continuously orbit around Earth, colliding with satellites, the ISS, rockets, etc) which would THEN lead to us not being able to leave Earth. As of this moment however, it is still possible to leave Earth Also, he only said Earth was a closed system in reference to trash disposal. We can only get rid of it via the means we already have on Earth, and having garbage leave the planet is not a viable option. That's what he meant by what he said. He did not insinuate that leaving Earth isn't possible, just that it is at risk of being made impossible
@01:17 the ground is depicted to be positive whereas it is always promoted to be negative - it seems the goalposts are being changed to suit the narrative!
Yes because they hit the firmament that's they ripple out after, stop trying to hide that fact with a song & dance routine with some cabriolet & cartoons And deliberately making it sound like just a regular tale instead of a fairytale!!!
No need to imagine the phenomenon. They can be viewed from the ground when looking at a thunderstorm from a distance. People that chase storms have posted videos of them.
Can confirm. Been chasing storms as a hobby for a few years now, and I've seen blue jets come out the top of strong storms on occasion.

Don’t forget ghosts
Don’t you guys see the irony that the short abbreviations of both phenomena happened to be named after similar creatures of mythologies?
Now now let's not forget about TROLLS and GNOMES

Plasma cutting dose the same effect when cutting through steel
Anyone else think blue jets should be called fairies?
Can you please explain why you think this;
There’s also something called ghost which a green after glow
Also green ghosts.

The ground can be positive or negative, it just depends on the area. I mean there is positive lightning, which would strike a negative ground.
