Good stuff! I literally just did this two days ago (for a few different tanks) after seeing it here on youtube. I got 8mm thick Twinwall PolyCarb stuff and it worked brilliantly (got it at Bunnings = Australia) the 6mm is a bit too thin and warps/droops easily but the 8mm works perfectly and is very sturdy and lightweight. *I then cut holes in it (for plant pots) and now I have my first aquaponics type setup directly in my lid/aquarium and I'm loving it.
I typically keep LED’s but after a year on one of my other fluorescent lights yes recently for sure I have seen it warping it and I was actually just about to put that in the description. You can also get LED strip under water lights that fit under the lid In the water that seem to work better for sure.
Just Polycarbonate from Lowe’s or Home Depot, I think it’s 1/4th in although if you can cut 1/2 inch I’d recommend going with that to keep the heat and humidity from warping it.
You can get a versa top for it for 34 bucks at Petco.
Good stuff!

How does it hold up with the lights? Any effect from the heat of the light?
