I've been interested in having an electric car since about 1998. The Tesla Model S was just too expensive, then the Model 3 and Y came out and I was prejudiced against the single display in the middle of the car. I was driving a Jaguar XF Diesel S which was costing me a couple of thousand plus in suspension repairs and maintenance. After riding in a friends Model Y and being very impressed, I took one for a test drive to see if I could accept the centre display. It took a couple of hours to get used to it and I Ioved the drive overall. I also watch a lot of "Just Get A Tesla" videos covering long trips and charging experience which gave me the confidence that long trip will work well. Its only about £50 a month more to lease the Model Y over the ongoing costs of the Jaguar (including depreciation), so I went for it. This was before the really cheap deals available right now. Can't imagine going back to an ICE car for a daily driver now.

1:34 Wow, I thought I might have been the only person to make such a critical purchase without first test driving the car. On pickup day I hitched a ride with my sister to Atlanta to pick up Perl (2023 MY LR AWD HW4). As far as I can remember, Perl was the first Tesla I’d ever touched, and only once before had I been within arms length of a coworker’s M3…
Well, I was not disappointed by Perl’s power and control. It took me a few days to get competent with the controls. Loving the car ever since.

Picked up Perl in Atlanta and drove her home to Alabama in July 2023. February I drove out to California to visit family and friends. In April (7th and 8th) I chased after a good Solar Eclipse viewing spot and finally settled on Marion, IL. On June 14th, I drove up to Muskegon, MI for my first Tesla Meetup on the 15th and I was back home to Alabama on the 16th. I've still got only 13,524 miles on Perl, and will be getting her tires rotated a second time soon. Between AutoPilot up until April and FSD ever since all the trips have been pretty easy on this old man, as they let me relax as I supervised most of each drive, taking over on patches of road I thought might be a little challenging for the ADAS, or on those rare occasions where FSD or AP demanded I take over (usually really bad weather or sometimes a low sun on the window while driving into shadowed road). I'll be going to the Chattanooga, TN meetup in March, probably after another ~5K mi round trip out west sometime between now and then. There is something about Perl that just makes it fun to drive her. I used to view long car trips with a good deal of apprehension mixed in with the expectation of fun on the trip, often getting the car serviced prior to a trip with fresh engine oil and checks of all the many fluid levels and sometimes even the battery. With Perl I just make sure I've got the right amount of air in the tires before I start out, maybe take a few seconds the night before to alter my usual daily charge of 50% or 60% to 80, 90 or maybe even 100% in order to get a good start when I leave the next morning. Life on the road is just easier in my Model Y.

Around 16:50. Elon has said that if the new versions of FSD won't work on AI3, Tesla owners will get a free AI4 chip. But, he sounded confident that it will work. Nice.

7:38 LOL. Funny he should say "Mustang". My most beloved car before my Pearl White Perl, was Ruby, my Ruby Red 2015 Mustang (Ecoboost, I'm sure this young fellow would prefer the GT). I still have Ruby, but she's mostly driven by my son. Every now and again I get to drive her and it is always shocking how different the driving experience is between Perl and Ruby. I never noticed the acceleration lag in Ruby until after experiencing Perl's instantaneous acceleration.

16:15 The rear and "repeater" camera views on the infotainment screen make the mirrors virtually redundant, except in very special circumstances. And that is a good thing as the rear view out of a model Y is marginal if not poor without the cameras.

Had a friend drive a Beetle I had been storing for another friend to the airport to rendezvous with a driver who will take it on to the owner in Florida. He followed me in my '21 Y, the drop was perfectly timed, and we returned together in the Y. I had a treat planned for the return. Being at the end of a second complementary month of FSD I thought we would try it out--DIA to Louisville, CO--about 30 miles. For my part, it was awesome in that it was now hands off (the last sample was not) and it did the whole trip flawlessly including a construction zone. My friend, who had been in my car before was quite blown away. Further, after we got back and headed for lunch, I had him drive the Y--use your imagination on how well that went. As he was leaving to head back to Denver, he brought up how many miles were on his old Corolla--200k--and how he really should start thinking about a newer car. Imagine that! And I can guess what car is now in the front of his mind.
For my part, I actively dislike the experience of driving ICE cars and will never voluntarily own one again.

I started with a lease of a Kia Niro EV 4+ swapping from an Audi Q5 S-line that I had from new. I loved the EV and extra gadgets it gave me, as well as the money saved by charging at home.
As lease ended, I tested a Tesla Model Y and Model 3. I initially found them a bit firm due to a neck injury, but a month later they got a Highland M3 and it was amazing. The RWD was below the potential £40,000 luxury car tax and cheaper than things such as Kia Niro or Hyundai Kona once you have the heat pump and tech level I like.
So I did my best to talk myself out of a Tesla, as I was becoming a fanboy over it. The Tesla M3 RWD just made sense and so much better value than any other. So I bought it new and absolutely love it.
Software updates, new features added. i have never had a car do this before. Waking up to find adaptive headlights or a boot opening as I stand there. I want FSD and am highly looking forward to when we can use it in the UK.
I am a Tesla Fan boy and the future is exciting.

Notes from the USA-- this writer owned a 2019 Kia Niro BEV for 02yrs. In sum, a fine EV, with a few flaws. He had been seeking to 'upgrade' the EV experience, and looked to buying a USED Tesla. He ended up with a 2020 Model 03, dual motor, long range. He bought it out of his USA state, 173 miles from home. The first drive of a Tesla was a 1630hrs in the rush hour traffic of metro Boston! For you English who know not Boston, Massachusetts traffic, he can educate you with a wittism, joke, or fact, you can pick. "In Boston a driver sees a 'stop sign' and thinks its an anacronym for "Squeal Tyres On Pavement"! The Tesla is worlds away better than the Niro

I cant wait to get my Tesla and get outta my ICE V. It took me a while with a lot of reading and seeing different videos and really trying to understand the advantages of full electric and finding ways to talk about the advantages without talking about the climate. With that being said, my next car will be a Tesla. Great video.

I knew EVs were around the corner in 2010 when Brushless LiPo RC cars hit the street. It was obvious we were at a point that the power and energy density were coming together.
We now have a 2024 MY-LR-AWD and it is everything I had hoped 15 years of innovation would lead to. I am happy Tesla not only made reliable EVs but also Powerful EVs.
Tesla set the bar high on the performance metric. While others were making the 'Leaf' and 'Prius' Tesla gave us the Roadster. Then the Model S. Having test driven an EV Prius back in 2012 let me tell you. My wife almost got rear ended pulling out of the dealership... why? When she pulled out and put the pedal down the response was similar to what you would expect from a 90yo with no legs. On the same test drive it downshifted on the freway to attempt to stay at 65mph on a grade... it failed and went down to 54mph. We got a Ford Fusion.

I don't love my '23 Chevy Bolt, it's about the slowest charging EV, uncomfortable seats, cheap interior materials, and if you don't pay a monthly subscription for OnStar the screen has virtually no use, I was aware of these deficiencies going in (not the OnStar thing), and oh!, and the wanting charging infrastructure
However, I am pleased to have switched from petrol, regular maintenance cost, and dozens and dozens of parts that break
I did a few years of research while I saved up the down payment and beat the bushes for EV incentives, of which I got two $7.5K and a $2K charge card
