I have a pantograph engraver that gets used occasionally. In this video I show a couple of ways of generating a template that can then be used for engraving.
Just found your channel due to the pantograph video, would love to see more! Im in the process of starting patterns to pour the parts to make a pantograph engraver for myself, so sooner than later, Ill have one to use, so want to learn everything I can about them in the mean time, lol.
That sounds like quite a project. These machines are so simple that without going into great detail, I'm not sure there is much more I can say directly about them. That won't stop me using it for other projects though. If there are specific issues or questions you have, happy to try and answer them.
Well... Originally I did not expect to use the boring head as I was just going to engrave on the dispenser directly. Then when I discovered the porosity, I thought I would mount on a rotary table and just clean up like that. Using the facing head was a last minute switch as I did not have the Z to use the vice stacked on top of the RT. I need to make up a stop for it so I get repeatability though.
The old school alternative to “Tasmanian metal” 😂 is linoleum! You press in with ball-end tooling rather than cutting. The Gorton manuals describe the technique. Haven’t tried it yet, but I have acquired some linoleum!
I really enjoy the pantograph engraving videos. There aren’t that many out there.
These days CNC engravers/ routers are so common that I don't think many people bother. For those of without CNC however...

Sneaked in the use of the facing facility of a boring head with hardly a mention :)

These days I'm scared stiff that any linoleum I find will be packed with asbestos.(Had a kitchen full of it). I'll stick with the metal I think...
