Im proud ta say I spent time with the great Mike Dunn in the mid-late 80's. ENGLEWOOD!! 70th/Ashland. Reggie/Randy/Nina. Wayne & Buck. Mike's passion was different from the rest of us. Since THEN!..................House MUZIC was his Calling!! SALUTE!!!!! SALUTE!!
had the chance to linsten to him live in italy (oasi beach), its been one of the best experiences in my entire life. its been amazing to enjoy the vibe with my friends. thank you mike for all your stuff. God made us funky, and we need to be blessed he made us that way
I realized after watching this Mike Dunn is consciously or unconsciously keeping the spirit of Ron Hardy alive by continuing to do spots like Reynolds while still being a global touring and recording DJ. His “Everyman” DJ approach seems to derive from his personal time with Ronnie, who he shared was also a great DJ but was a regular guy and not untouchable like Frankie seemed to be.
@12:21 Sherman Burks was my Air Force recruiter...and in 1989 I was his last recruit. The day I departed from Chicago for Basic Training was also his last day of active duty.
@19:28 the "Magic Words" are - 63rd/Artesian. On my yearly trips home for vacation (leave) I always touched base with Sherman and I got to visit him at 63rd/Artesian. I will always remember the studio in the basement that had the blue carpet on the floor. I met Chauncey there as well as Bam Bam. I also met Marshall Jefferson - and he may not remember this, but when I met him, he was working on a project and wanted 'virgin ears' to hear a snippet. He didn't think I would like it. He played the snippet and I looked at him like he was an alien...I LOVED that track. To this day I could not tell you the name of it or if it was ever released, but If I heard it again I would know it instantly!
This brother introduced me to house music, I created a dance crew called "Alpha Beta Boyz, we would dance exclusively at a place called "The Court Yard" and Mike was the resident DJ. We became great friends and I greatly appreciate this brother and Tyree Cooper. Much love
I used House Work in 3 of my sets, great track and great that you're continuing Chicago's legacy ❤ One question tho ; are you throwing Shapes, Shade or both? Shapes doesn't seem to make sense.
@38:55 - in anticipation of what is to be said next, I screamed at the top of my lungs, "NOOOOOOOO! PLEASE SAY YOU DIDN'T PASS ON 'THAT' RECORD......" And I clearly remember two things about that track: 1. the first time that WKKC played in in its entirety. It was also the LAST time played in its entirety cos the FCC was gonna crack down on 'that' kind of content. So in the future that had to be edited. 2. The record store where I bought my copy - located on 63rd/King Drive, and on the northest corner...approx 10 feel from the steps of the "L" stop.
I have story lol,, nah but I'm from 67th and sangamon,,knew George c mo,, was at the courtyard fridays,, at high society with tyree on sundays,, them ,, larry ,,Farley,,kkc made me do what I do..
39:30. What was it he was going to say, but chose not to say?? So Mike's publishing company was on it?? But then he doesn't say more about it. My guess is the first run was Armando and Mike Dunn bootlegging it since they had a copy. Then probably were told to not do anymore.
