trad shooter of 3 years, shooting 63" Byron Ferguson 55# with Victory 400-550 at 29". Started instinctive, then a year ago started to be swayed by the gap crowd and I succumbed and spent the last year trying to nail that idea down and I would have to say I failed miserably. I think part of the issue is my vision, I wear glasses and they definitely have an impact. So now I am back to instinctive, within a week I was back to 6 inch groups at 25 yards. I might never get better than that, c'est la vie. Even though I shoot 3d targets on my property daily, I am really focusing on hunting ability. Thanks for the great channel as I just found you.

I had to try the drop the string elbow and yes it also dropped the bow arm. Kind of like running the faster you move your arms the faster the legs will go.
I saw your videos always late at night and got the irresistible impulse to grab the bow and go out for shooting, to see if i achieve that precision ...pure inspiration here!! thanks.
Lol I still do that crazy stuff like getting up after I’ve gone to bed and go outside and shoot, needless to say my wife doesn’t understand what the big deal is🤣
Jeff, another great video. I started shooting a R/D Longbow last year, I also dropped about 4# of draw weight from what I had previously used on recurves. Initially I was struggling, but very quickly found that what you are describing here was the solution for me. With less draw weight and the same anchor as before, it was easier for me to collapse on the release, before the change, that heavier draw weight assisted me in keeping that pulling motion because I had to pull to hit anchor, with a lighter draw weight bow it was so much easier to get there and wobble/collapse. So now, I have an anchor point that gives me an additional inch of draw past what I used to do with my heavier recurves, a more solid/consistent anchor and release, and better back tension all at the same time. Preach on Brother! Some day I man need to try a passion LB. I really like my narrow handled R/D bow now, and even prefer it over those hefty full recurve handles, from what I have seen your LB seems to have more of a recurve grip, is that correct?
Darn good insights about back tension and the natural hinge in your body. I never thought about the connection between the front bow arm and back shoulder. Great video and awesome shooting!

Great information, the swing draw has been to great success but it's too much movement in a hunting situation , I agree with your method of keeping the shot consistent getting on target in the beginning and pulling through , very good method
By pulling through the shot, the string slides easier then consciously thinking of letting go of the string, and it helps retain the T form of your shoulders allowing the bowhand to stay more stable. It's very similar to the idea in Rifle shooting to letting the shot surprise you when it goes off, but you'll notice that the time in looking at the target and staying locked on to a very small tuft of fur or the x of the target is extended in the aspect of focus and attention and burning the hole through the target. This allows us to think of the concept of shooting for the exit in hunting or shooting through the target. I hope this helps and welcome to the bent stick and string club!
When he got to the, 'involuntary natural hinge' demonstration I thought, "I call BS. I won't drop my bow arm". Nope! I was wrong! It totally drops as long as your back is in tension.
I have a 47# bow that was built for me. 51” long I have a 27” draw. I have 28.5” 500 spine arrows with 250 grains in the from but the kick to the left in flight. What do I need to have the fly right
Well actually I practice a lot at night with luminoks it a great time to work on form and focus as well as at dusk, I’ve got a couple of different videos on this exact subject on UA-cam check them out sometime hopefully they’ll help and show you how much fun it is!
Elbow up is the key. I shoot a whole different bows/styles and I don't generally don't pull through unless I'm shooting compound. The beautiful thing about archery there isn't one single perfect technique 👌. The no1 advice is to join a club
Kind of a rudimentary question because I've only shot adult compound bows and youth longbows when I was younger, so I'm not very familiar with longbows and recurve bows. My question is, let's say the particular long or recurve bow is a 50lb draw. Is the draw weight only in the actual draw and when fully drawn are you in a more weightless position? Or with the bow fully drawn are you holding that drawn weight until the shot is released? If that makes sense. I've been watching the show Alone and they release their arrows almost immediately after full draw. There's usually almost no time spent fully drawn and lining the shot up. I'm not sure if it's because they're rushing or it's because the draw weight isn't relieved at full extension like on a compound bow. Thank you, and sorry for the long winded question!
Try as l might to concentrate on the spot l am aiming at my arrow is allways clear in my vision and my target spot is blurred any tips on reversing this
Boy that’s a tough one! You may be near sighted possibility, if you’re target is blurry when something near your eyes line of sight you may have to use what’s called split vision shooting and that’s okay it’s whatever works best for you but seriously hold a finger out at arm’s length and see if it changes your focus at say 20 yards.
Hey Jeff, could you one of these times talk a little bit about your glove that you use. I have shot for years with a tab in the "Barebow" class competing. But I bought a glove to shoot my longbow with and it is a terrible fit. It's too small, the ends that your fingers go into rotate around every shot and it's terrible. I notice your glove is a lot more like a real glove and I'm curious to know more about it if you wouldn't mind talking about it a little. Very confusing: are you advocating a Static or a Dynamic release? Also, slow motion video of your release from different angles would be helpful. Love your video's; please keep them coming; and good luck with your bow and arrow building business. Your bows look great and seem to be good performers. I see that your carbon limbs have outer wood laminations. What is the percentage of carbon, wood & glass? Can you show scientifically that carbon boosts the performance of your bows?

I call this pull through method "wipe the mustard off your face" this way you get to anchor, aim and continue the motion and during which the string slides off the fingers, and that puts the draw hand over the shoulder each and every time

I love your channel as you and I do a lot of similar things within archery, I'm a longbow hunter and teach a varied audience of kids in introductory through advanced archery, fellow disabled veterans with rehabilitative and mental aspects of archery and doing adaptive archery, on top of teaching hunting with the state and refer people to your videos a lot. Keep up the good work!
Sorry I thought this was a traditional longbow review. You know. D shaped longbow around 74” no cut to centre shot riser. The real deal. Seems UA-cam has brought me here for some reason. You all have fun with your toys.
Respect to you always but I disagree. It may work good for you but not for me. To say you have to pull through is false. My hand never moves off anchor and I come off the string just fine. But that is what works for me. Over thinking and over analyzing has always confused my simple little mind. Being instictive is just that. Be yourself and stop thinking how others are doing it. We are all standing on the shoulders of those that came before us. Keep it simple and stay instictive. Love your channel.
100% agree. Of all the tips I could give a traditional archer, "pulling through the shot" is #1.
I don't.but I've shot clout for a while and I went through a phase of shooting 60,70,80 lbs bows so I just shoot soft with a 40lbs bow

I shoot both eyes open and if you are able to almost close one eye it can definitely help with focus a lot of shooters do that 👍🏻

Is this realy a Longbow ? a real Longbow doesen‘t is curved for me . Maybe i am wrong , in Germany we Call such s Bow Jagdbogen / Hunting bow
