    Great work sir...coming to your question, abnormal vibrations and the reduction in machine/ device normal output might be the two signs of probable cavitation.

      And this varing output (Generally Output Decrease) can be easily measured by any discharge flowmeter.

    Other than abnormal performance and variable output can we do one thing ,that is measuring pressure at output of tail race in case of turbine and at Suction in case of pump through monometer and if it is below vapour pressure than definitely cavitation will occurs.

    By using sensors or other vibration measuring device, we can detect cavitation...acc to me.#Answer to your question.

      Cavitation (i.e. Vapur Bubbles) degrade the performance of a pump, resulting in a fluctuation of flow rate and discharge pressure. It means discharge rate will lower as compare to normal condition. So this you can measure by your sensor called Discharge meter or Flow meter.
