im 15, and what im lookin for in these discus movies is to watch there form, but my farthest throw overall was 140ft 3 in, im noticing that they are going slow on the first step, and then fast, i want to thank u for this vid, also if anyone is throwing the discuss and its wobbling all over the place, start back to the basics, like bowling, it helps greatly!
yeah I am a sophomore in high school and I have been greatly improving this year I learned my spin, and went from 79 to 80 to 85 to 90 to 102 all in one week. videos like this really help, because you can sometimes mold somethings they do to what you do all ready. Thanks for putting up this vid man!
Thanks for the post... this will really help me, I have been using a halfspin because I can't really understand the fullspin, now maybe I can get over a hundred
@Cooldude0027 SO we figured to try the spin Monday because he had nothing to lose. He spun 3 times and did so under control without scratching or throwing foul. He likes it. No oneelse did a spin move. I hope he keeps this motivation so he can get better this summer. His season is over but he is still going out to throw, a good sign. Much confidence too. He did the 3 successful spins after only working with it a day and a half. He may be the only 8th grade spinner next year.
these throws are amazing!! great music to go along with it too :) i wish i wasnt stuck at a measly 110 ft and was instead blasting it out to 67 meters like Alekna and the like. I really love watching them throw
@theepicninjamoose That is rather good. I'm in 8th grade and today my track team went to our district finals. I ended up throwing 116ft 3.5 inches. Last year my PR was only 86ft 7 inches. I'm thinking that if that 7th grader you saw wants to keep going, he'll be amazing when his body starts hitting it's peak performance in the next couple of years.
That's awesome, 40 meters is really good with a 2k, my PB is 49m with a 1.6k I've never tried a 2k. I'll look forward on seeing you in a competition in the future, I'm seventeen and started throwing this year, I also train every day :)
i agree 100% my entire freshman year i did the standing throw and yes it was aful at first but at the end i was throwing clean 100 feet with it so now as i start to combine it with the spin i am getting that 100 feet plus all the power from the spin added onto it
I love how Tammert throws , it looks almost effortless , he has rly nice and cool technique :D, but sadly he doesn't have much strength anymore for big throws :(
thanks for this video, I've been trying to find professional discuss throwing form. I'm a freshman and i take track and field at school. one of my events is discuss, but i don't throw that far so this might help.
@rushfan9thcmd There is a girl who goes to my school, who set our district record for throwing discus. She threw it 123' 8". It's like she was born to do this. I'm sure your son will improve and be confident in his throwing.
@theepicninjamoose at a recent meet my son was in, a 7th grade girl threw in the 90's. SHe must have spent endless hours on such a smooth move in the ring. She will be a local force if she stays with it. Finally got my son interested in it. I have spent most of the time on good front throws. He is not overly motivated but getting there. He threw 64 feet from the front of the ring for his first measured throw ever. He has thrown in the 70's in practice all standing front throws. more work to come
the person above is exactly right ive found my best throws come off when my body doesnt feel like its putting out much effort and also dont change now just work on small things is your head up? are you starting slowly and speeding up? and most important i think are you finishing tall at the end of your throw
@Cooldude0027 I had the girls class wrong she is in 8th grade. She threw 108 last Sat and won the sectional and qualified for the Ill state meet. As for my son, he threw 66 from the front of the ring. It was only his 3rd meet. This summer will be learning to spin. As for the shot, after we got back from that sectional meet, I aksed him if was interested in learning the spin for the shot. He said ok.I showed him a 3/4 move. He went to our county meet Monday and threw 19 something...continued
Hey guys I am currently a senior and my best throw last year was a 136 and I want to get into the 170's this year. I have some videos of me throwing in my yard and was wondering if any of you would mine watching them and giving me some tips. Thanks!
i agree..but for me though i have a 10 ft difference from a non reverse and reverse 10 ft more from the reverse...but the thing is the i built a bad habit of blocking with a bent leg with the reverse so i had to relearn the left leg block
@4004mjsmith well best advice for full spin technique would be looking up articles or videos, lots and lots of videos, oh and drills. ask your coach about the 90 degree drill, baically you go through the whole motion of the spin going 90 degrees at a time. hope it helps and good luck
Once you step into the ring you cant leave the ring untill youve thrown and come to a complete stop else its a foul. If your wearing sunglasses or a necklace and they fly out its a foul too. The spinning at the end of the throw is called a switch release, Ive been using a blocking release. I think WR have been thrown with both but im working on getting my switch down.
oh and quick question, is it true that if you use the stingray grip ( you know the grip with the index finger and middle finger together) the discus gains more power? cuz im trying to experiment with different grips to help give more power and stability to the discus
if you have rotational shoes, i know what you mean! i had to get rid of them and get glider shoes, even though im rotational for shot and disc...too slippery
@4004mjsmith if anyone hasnt helped you already, a good way to work on your release is just rolling the discus. im sure you know what i mean, and also the discus should be coming out of your pointing finger (idk actual name for this finger :]) not your middle finger so that can be the problem. look up how to throw the discus with mac wilkins it should help alot
im pretty sure you only have to stay in the ring until the discus lands, then you can leave out the back whilst doing a cartwheel without stopping if you want . And i dont think its a foul if you lose an item of clothing or jewlerry etc.
My coach said that i can get back to trowing like i used to by fixing my hips because i wasn't turning them or my foot in my power position. but now she said my problem is my release. any tips?
i started this year for track and my best punch was 90 but when i try a full throw i cant get that power postion like in a punch and cant figure out why. my steps all up to the last are good but it feels so awkward for that last one. any advice
From what I've seen most of the really good discus throwers are 6'4" or more. That height gives them a huge advantage to add to the fact that they could already throw well and were strong because they can sling their arms and have greater reach. For me at 5'10" and 180 pounds, throwing disc is much harder than it is for a fellow teammate who is 6'5". Oh well, not trying to be a whiner. Even if I was 6'10" 300 pounds of pure muscle I probably couldn't throw anywhere near these guys lol
@RiseOfAnarchy34 As a lefty myself, I agree it's a challenge. But, success requires attention to detail, and doing the translation from right to left-handed forces you to pay attention. So use the lefty advantage and good luck.
i know this is bad but im in 8th grade and i have a problem throwing discus, i throw 100 but when i do my spins i tend to put my arm down and it does not go as far, is there a way that i can train myself to stop that or should i just focus solely on keeping my hand up and straight?
ok well, it depends on where your from and what class your in, as in class a, class b, or class c. and the discus weight. Middle schools discus's are smaller. but yah that is good in my book
im a 170lb wrestler, after the season ill probably get up to like 185, i wanna be a thrower in track and field but im scared im not big enough even though i have very good numbers on all my core lifts. do you have to be big to be a good thrower?
i love discus! ehh shot is ok ha AGHS THROW SQUAD BABY! thatz where stephanie brown trafton came from :P we got to throw with her and she is TALLLLLL pr for disc is 125' for my sophomore year and lookin forward to this year! this vid helped my technique out of the back
does anyone have any tips to develope explosiveness for shot and disc i can only throw 40ft and 110ft and ive got that far by brute strength but i really need help with my speed.
im a junior and this is my first year my pb is 110 using 3/4ths spin but i dont know how to keep the discus from coming off my middle finger and when i use the full spin i cant seem to get enough momentum to get past 105 and half the time i grip it and completely screw up...can anyone help me with my release?
Kanter definitely puts the best rotation on the discus at release, that discus is flying nicely all they way, still pretty flat right before it hits....hey, where are the Americans, lol.....they need help with their cycles, the others seem to have it down a little better. Polska! Polska! Polska!
the switch is not the important thing, its what causes the thrower to make the switch. once your in your power position you plant the left foot, then throw your hips foward, then your arm comes around like a sling shot and all of that put together causes the switch at the end of the throw. without powerful hips and planting the left foot there will be no power in the throw and no switch
now some one help me with this... a kid who last yr as a 8th grader threw 199;8 and pissed everyone off...now a freshman in highschool throws 160... oh well...the kid has talent... its all tech he says
@sneakytanderson i would find that its different for everybody im better in discus then shot but im too small for shot but it shouldnt be too hard to adjust the power position for disc is similiar to shot just a little wider and then the extra techniques like half spin and full spin and south african u will need to adjust to
@mrfear15 sweet and I believe it because my lil bro is 14 and can throw 190 in middle school, but he's also 6'2 and at 180 pounds. We're just big guys! Congrats to ya! Keep it up!!!!
Check out discus throw in wiki Virgilijus Alekna is second best planet thrower through the whole history that people saw... ;) his best score 73.88 m (242 ft 4 in) if he had throwed 20cm more he would have done planet record
im 15, and what im lookin for in these discus movies is to watch there form, but my farthest throw overall was 140ft 3 in, im noticing that they are going slow on the first step, and then fast, i want to thank u for this vid, also if anyone is throwing the discuss and its wobbling all over the place, start back to the basics, like bowling, it helps greatly!

2018 and i still love this video.
qotsa is perfect. i'm happy you chose it as the music :)
Thanks for the post... this will really help me, I have been using a halfspin because I can't really understand the fullspin, now maybe I can get over a hundred

this is probaly the best discus video on yotube its so damn entertaining
Kanters the greatest thrower of his generation. He will go far.
@theepicninjamoose That is rather good. I'm in 8th grade and today my track team went to our district finals. I ended up throwing 116ft 3.5 inches. Last year my PR was only 86ft 7 inches. really good
video, thanks!!!
Never mind that i`m from Estonia
Best regards!!!!!
3:53 Love how he adds a little victory jump at the end of the throw.
i've good memories from that day :)
btw , nice video :)
i agree 100% my entire freshman year i did the standing throw and yes it was aful at first but at the end i was throwing clean 100 feet with it so now as i start to combine it with the spin i am getting that 100 feet plus all the power from the spin added onto it

AAAHHH I have a huge track meet tomorrow!!!!! Trying to get pumped! Wish me luck!
although what really amazes me is yennifer frank's speed in the ring his arm whip speed is incredible
thanks for this video, I've been trying to find professional discuss throwing form. I'm a freshman and i take track and field at school. one of my events is discuss, but i don't throw that far so this might help.
i have to dis tomorrow.. hopefully i learned the technique well enough from theses guys xD
Great VId....can u make similar vid for shotput, javelin and hammer as well..?
@rushfan9thcmd There is a girl who goes to my school, who set our district record for throwing discus. She threw it 123' 8". It's like she was born to do this. I'm sure your son will improve and be confident in his throwing.
I'm in track and field and a few days I saw a 7th grader throw 91.3 feet. That kid is amazing.
I was told at one point that spinning to throw is just like a dance step. You have to have fluid motion and not care what others think.
These guys would be good ballet dancers with that awesome spin in the end of each throw
for everyone saying spin, it is not a spin.
it is a "turn" and then a sprint through the circle.
@SubAverageGamer i got 37 meters when i was 15, 1.6k discus, 31.5 m is a good start keep it up
@Cooldude0027 I had the girls class wrong she is in 8th grade. She threw 108 last Sat and won the sectional and qualified for the Ill state meet. yeeeah!!! went to same school with kanter:) of course very proud of him:)
great video
Jeez I've watched this over 20 times..
i agree..but for me though i have a 10 ft difference from a non reverse and reverse 10 ft more from the reverse...but the thing is the i built a bad habit of blocking with a bent leg with the reverse so i had to relearn the left leg block
I absolutely love discus LOL
This is one of the best workout songs on Earth lol
haha i love casanas reaction to his throw at 2:56. but if i had a throw like that i would go screaming up and down too...

@River8Snake That's actually what I had the most trouble with when I started but I've gotten a lot better at it now.
oh and quick question, is it true that if you use the stingray grip ( you know the grip with the index finger and middle finger together) the discus gains more power? cuz im trying to experiment with different grips to help give more power and stability to the discus
it was truely epic
if you have rotational shoes, i know what you mean! i had to get rid of them and get glider shoes, even though im rotational for shot and disc...too slippery
He is either, a big 9th grader, a thrower who still uses the 1.0 kg disk, or has connections with a throwing legend.
@4004mjsmith if anyone hasnt helped you already, a good way to work on your release is just rolling the discus. im sure you know what i mean, and also the discus should be coming out of your pointing finger (idk actual name for this finger :])

@theepicninjamoose However, middle school use a different disc than high school and there's a different disc for college level too
its not an advantage its a reaction someone has to keep from going out of the circle because they generate so much momentum.
I like Yennifer's tech! And the name is gorgeous of course :D
@elpimpo13 spinning is the best technique, what do you do? spin gets more momentum
@RiseOfAnarchy34 As a lefty myself, I agree it's a challenge. But, success requires attention to detail, and doing the translation from right to left-handed forces you to pay attention. So use the lefty advantage and good luck.
I'm a freshman and this is my first year in track and field. Anyone have any tips for n00b discus throwers?
i know this is bad but im in 8th grade and i have a problem throwing discus, i throw 100 but when i do my spins i tend to put my arm down and it does not go as far, is there a way that i can train myself to stop that or should i just focus solely on keeping my hand up and straight?
@Trollin4Evar depends on how heavy is the discus you're throwing, if its 1k then its not that good, if it's 1.6k its pretty good
ok well, it depends on where your from and what class your in, as in class a, class b, or class c. and the discus weight. Middle schools discus's are smaller. but yah that is good in my book
@iAyeJay Make sure your body is in the reverse C position and the arm should follow
muy buena edicion se sacaron un 10
does anyone know the name of the song at the beginning?
and it isnt the same song as the one in the description
how do i get stronger legs if i cant squat? are there alternatives to squatting cause i messed up my left knee
im a 170lb wrestler, after the season ill probably get up to like 185, i wanna be a thrower in track and field but im scared im not big enough even though i have very good numbers on all my core lifts. do you have to be big to be a good thrower?
Nick! got any specs on the size of the discus and weight inOlympic competition ?? High school is 1.6kG for boys and girls is 1.0 kG
i love discus! ehh shot is ok ha
AGHS THROW SQUAD BABY!
thatz where stephanie brown trafton came from :P
we got to throw with her and she is TALLLLLL
pr for disc is 125' for my sophomore year and lookin forward to this year! this vid helped my technique out of the back
Are the throwing shoes worth buying, like do they make a difference on how you throw
plz respond I have a championship for track really soon!
please do a video for 2012! :D
we did discuss in pe for a couple of days and it was my first time doing it and i threw 34.9 metres, my pe teachers only beat me by like a meter
WOAHHH, these men beastly! I'm gonna throw like that some day. But I only get 17 m. :(
is 135'7" standing from the front a good throw for a high schooler?
does anyone have any tips to develope explosiveness for shot and disc i can only throw 40ft and 110ft and ive got that far by brute strength but i really need help with my speed.
does anyone know what the advantage of the switch at the end of the throw is?
Rashid is rocking those specs.
i love how the 4th ranked guy doesnt even reverse that is crazy!
im a junior and this is my first year my pb is 110 using 3/4ths spin but i dont know how to keep the discus from coming off my middle finger and when i use the full spin i cant seem to get enough momentum to get past 105 and half the time i grip it and completely screw up...can anyone help me with my release?
@sneakytanderson
Both events require the same explosive type strength(from cleans/snatch). Only difference is form.
seriously how do these guys throw it that far
oh and what is the name of the second song
Kanter definitely puts the best rotation on the discus at release, that discus is flying nicely all they way, still pretty flat right before it hits....hey, where are the Americans, lol.....they need help with their cycles, the others seem to have it down a little better. Polska! Polska! Polska!
source: trained by adam setliff--watch video 24/7.
the switch is not the important thing, its what causes the thrower to make the switch. once your in your power position you plant the left foot, then throw your hips foward, then your arm comes around like a sling shot and all of that put together causes the switch at the end of the throw. without powerful hips and planting the left foot there will be no power in the throw and no switch
QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
YEAH
just another form of a reverse. its all about preference, one guy doesnt even reverse he just blocks
you should be in a low position where your knees are slightly bent but you shouldn't be in a squating position.
@Benrox324 no.
train him 6 days each week and give him protein and take him to the gym 3 days each week.
then you have a discus thrower
Is it easier to throw shot put or discus first?
how big is that rishid guy? he looks alot bigger than everyone else
@theepicninjamoose, our 8th grade record is 137.2 feet. Its not even worth trying to beat.
yea thats what my coach told me, good advice
i can never seem to spin fast enough to get my momentum up fast enough to get a nice release...
now some one help me with this... a kid who last yr as a 8th grader threw 199;8 and pissed everyone off...now a freshman in highschool throws 160... oh well...the kid has talent... its all tech he says
how can i do to improve?
i have a competition on 14th dec.......
i dont want to lose.....
im 15 and i throw 17m
LOL holy shit, these guys are all so huge.
Robert Fazekas jerks his head like someone said, 'You fucking suck!' at 1:58
How good of a throw is 31.5m? I'm 15 and have only just started proper training for my throws.
@sneakytanderson i would find that its different for everybody im better in discus then shot but im too small for shot but it shouldnt be too hard to adjust the power position for disc is similiar to shot just a little wider and then the extra techniques like half spin and full spin and south african u will need to adjust to
hahahhahaa XD i love it how you just took it.
@mrfear15 sweet and I believe it because my lil bro is 14 and can throw 190 in middle school, but he's also 6'2 and at 180 pounds. We're just big guys!
Congrats to ya! Keep it up!!!!
