    Thank you for posting this! I worked through replacing the center bearing and all three u-joints today and it went smoothly thanks to this! Your old center bearing looked fantastic compared to mine, haha! The nut inside yours looked new somehow. Like you, the replacement nut wasn't a proper fit so I had to reuse the original. I ended up having to use a 5lb sledge to knock the ears off the spline and a screwdriver and hammer to get the old bearing off. Note the flanges on the drive shaft are pretty soft and easy to damage.
    It definitely didn't come apart as easily as in your vid. :)

    I think you mentioned the wrong size for the rear u-joint to rear differential and carrier bearing mounting bolt socket sizes. You mentioned the carrier bearing bolts as socket size 14mm but are 17mm and the rear u joint bolts as 17mm but are 14mm. At least that is how it is on my 2001. Great video and appreciate you posting.

    I needed this because I have a 01 king cab and my carrier bearing has had to been replaced twice in like 2 years, so I'm gonna have to take out my drive shaft to check it all out

    Warning: Make an alignment mark on the front shaft before removing. Use this mark when reinstalling to avoid alignment/phase problems.

    If I do not have an Air hammer - is there another way to get the bearing out of the drive shaft???

    • @srees304
      @srees304 Рік тому

      Too late for you probably, but for others - yes. You can use a bearing or gear puller. I ended up using a screwdriver and hammer to drive it off since the old one was garbage anyway - just have to be careful not to damage the flange on the drive shaft.

    Actually don’t need to remove from rear diff., just at bearing and use a strap to hold shaft out of way.

      1) Did you index the front shaft to the rear shaft and put them back together in that same alignment? If you did not and it is vibrating badly now, try this. Remove the rear shaft and rotate it 1/2 a turn and put it back together. If vibs get better, your problem was incorrect indexing! IF still too bad, take shaft to balance man and he can realign and balance it!

    Go to 7:10 in this PART ONE video and make note of the bumps on the rear face of the old OEM center support, prior to removal. They are facing to the REAR of the shaft! Now go to 1:00 on the Part 2 VIDEO. It is stated that the face of the OEM center support with the bumps has an "F" for FRONT! NOT TRUE! That face was facing to the REAR prior to removal in VIDEO PART ONE! I just completed this job and did some measurements with a dial caliper. The bearing mounted inside the rubber damper section IS NOT IN THE CENTER of the assy! It is mounted appx 3mm or 1/4 inch closer to the front than the rear. The new replacement assy has no bumps or "F", but it too has the bearing mounted off-center and closer to the front of the assy. I installed with "the bearing closer to the front side" facing FORWARD! I have no idea what the "F" means???

      I appreciate you adding this note! I made sure to check and verify as I worked on mine. On mine, the F did face towards the front of the vehicle, and I verified that by measuring the old and new bearings since they are off-center of the rubber as you said.
