Way to go Gene!! This is the reason that I started to watch your channel in the first place. Also, I am glad to see "mom" at your side with her support and tips for the other moms out there with kids learning to fish. Keep up the good work!!!
I have 6 children. 5 girls 1 boy. Thank you very much took them out twice and was going back and forth, with fixing and helping cast. This is great advice. My wife and children thank you for such great advice. 🙏
I don’t have kids of my own, but a lot of my friends do. And since I’m the angler in our group I’ve been teaching a lot of kids lately. This has been a great help. Thanks!
This is great thank you 🙏 I am a single dad and never had a grandpa or dad to teach me the ways of fishing I love how you both had some great ways to get them not only to fish but to have fun keep it up you two
I dont have any kids but I do have a neice that I'm trying to get into fishing and she has a low attention span and she was able to sit down and watch your video...I even tested her on the the video and she remembered everything....thankyou
Awesome video of you and your wife. I have always admire your family values. Thank You both for taking the time for this video and putting yourself out there!!!!!
Hey Gene ! This video was awesome , I watched this video followed these tips and then adjusted my tactics . Before this video my son and I were catching nothing . Literally the next day after watching this my 6 year old caught a nice size blue gill. Since the video my 4 year old went from just watching to casting by himself to last trip he caught 3 fish all by himself .. Thanks from. Proud dad .
Thank you SO much. We just moved and live on a big pond. I fished when I was much younger but wasn’t 100% sure where to start with teaching my girls. My husband is deployed so I’m on my own! This was SUPER helpful.
Thanks! This is really helpful. My son is asking to go fishing, and I've never been! My husband is deployed, so I'm trying to learn. We'll see how this goes.
Great video. I started my 7 year old son out just like that. He was 4 at the time. Now he has his own kayak and would rather be fishing than anywhere else
Great video! Been fishing for awhile now. Wished I’d thought about the bucket thing years ago when I was teaching my kids. Now the grandkids are learning. We’re buying a new pontoon boat and I’m wanting to teach more then just my grandkids. I’m thinking of taking out kids from the inner city that possibly would never have a chance to get on a boat and learn. Wish me luck! 😬 I was always told if you can keep them busy outdoors fishing, hunting or camping you won’t have to worry as much about them getting in to something they shouldn’t. I believe it teaches them how to appreciate the outdoors as well. Keep up the good work.
Great video guys. About to go on vacation. The kids have been casting in the yard, I got my license and I’m stressed but excited. The biggest thing I’m trying to handle is even with the license, I’m going to have to put that aside for this time and just get them started. I know that once they catch one they will be hooked, no question just the kids they are. Awesome video and tips exactly what I was looking for
Good stuff for sure Gene! We are currently doing a FISHERS OF KIDS program through our church to get young anglers involved in fishing and faith. Bravo!
This was great. I'm going to pass this along to some friends. I skipped the teaching in the backyard and we all learned together on the water last year. My girls were 4 and 2 when we started and they love going now, though I still have to cast for the younger one.
What great timing. My first child (boy) will be born in less than a month. I can not wait to teach him things like this. Been here for years Gene keep up the good work!
You are absolutely the best Gene! This is what life is about. Appreciating the outdoors and passing that passion, and respect for it, on to the next generation. I'm so happy that you continually put out this amazing content that shows your love and passion for the outdoors and children. Keep up the great work.
15 or so yrs ago taught my grand kids to fish they loved goin to the lake bank fishin they get bored an catch crayfish ...last oct took my neighbor to the lake here in the middle of payson az. never fished taught her to cast she is sight imparted she caught a trout on 2nd cast i caught nothing the next few times we went but to see her progress this spring an early summer she baits her hook and out fished me several times it's as much fun watching folks that never fished take up something i've done forever...great stuff fluke
HOLY SMOKES! In one minute you nailed this single mom's thoughts. And we clam and crab i forgot how to fish! Kid just got a nice trout pole and she is a great caster...i am so excited i am blasting this all over THANK YOU (ps i live in a town of serious fishing people on the oregon coast and my dads are fishermen. i have to do this on my own ;) for her TAHNK YOU
Awesome video Gene & Tiffany!!!! Our first grandchild is at the perfect age to start learning... he's very interested in going. Thank you for all the tips!!!!
Perfect! Just the way I taught my granddaughter. Took her out in the yard and taught her how to cast and she went from there. Now she loves it. She ask to go fishing all the time. I haven't taught her how to use a baitcaster yet but that's coming. I thank you and your wife very much. That was very thoughtful. Everything you said was right on the money!
Great Video with really great tips. I especially like the tip about leaving at about the 3rd time your kid says they are bored. I have gone from 3-4 hour fishing trips on the kayak with my daughter to 1 hour long trips. She enjoys it much more, now to get her a better rod and hopefully her first fish! Thanks for all that you do Gene!
What a great video. Thank you both! I'm teaching my grandkids to fish and in a week we are going on our bluegill vacation. They love to go. I love to take them. Life is always good, but exceptionally great when we're on the lake. If you take kids fishing and take patience along you'll all have memories for a life time. God Bless! P.S. The grandkids live in GA!
Excellent, excellent, excellent video! I'm currently going through this with a 6 and 2 year old. Watching this video gave me good ideas to take out with me next time. Also nice seeing Mrs. Flukemaster covering content.
Have 4 kids and can confirm, divide and conquer as much as you can. I get my kids ultralight spinning reels, they are cheap and even the cheapest one will be better than most anything else at that price range while staying in the size range you want(small) and makes catching bluegill or w/e else with a bobber a ton of fun.
I might be cheating on my 7 day social media fast, but I have to let you know that I LOVE this video. Thank you for all that you share for free! to help others learn how to fish. Nice to see your wife in this one and to get her input as well.
Outstanding stuff, my four year old had some great casts the other day with her little four foot ugly stik. I asked her if she wanted to go and she said "no daddy, I want to keep fishing." Awesome.
Gene I think its videos like this that keep you sincere. Ive watched nearly all your videos over the years and we have talked a few times at the Dayton Boat dock. It seems sometimes your just going through the motions but like I said you can always tell when your videos are sincere. I miss videos like this from you. Some of your best videos were way back in like 2010 just you on the ol' aluminum triton talking about JJs magic. I know you got a million things going on and it has turned into a business for you but I know out of the 283,000 people the 44,000 that were here when I first talked to you probably feel the same way I do. I hope you don't go too hard at this and get burnt out. Ive shook your hand before and know you are great dude and a stand up character. I wish you all the best in whatever you venture into buddy. Just know that you got a lot of people that respect the crap out of ya are pulling for ya. This guy being one.
Great video fluke! I just recently took my 3 year old little girl fishing and it was very stressful. Next time thanks to you I’m going to leave my stuff at home and just help her. I’m sure we’ll both have a much better time! Thanks man, love your channel so much!
My family just got into fishing, this week. My daughters have already spent hours practicing in the yard. They check their 6 and their line everytime they cast. I think I'll try the 5 gal bucket trick.
Really great advice. Been out with my boys a couple of times. I totally agree with the 3rd time go home rule. Otherwise it’s tough to get them to go out again. And thank you for the live bait tips. I was missing that and it’s been tough on them because they haven’t caught anything. That’s how I came about your video. Thank you.
Great video bud. It’s been a bear trying to teach my son to fish. You definitely gave me a new way to approach this. Thanks man and keep up the good work.
Thanks for a quick talk about teaching kids to fish. To be honest I'm learning with them. I have not really fished in over 25 years. I'm teaching my 2 and they love it; that is if they cannot play Fortnite. We are from the Chicago area, what's great Hightland rim retreats is about 30 minutes from my mom's house. So maybe we'll have a new place to visit when we visit her.
WOW..just in time, Cabelas having catch and release for kids for free on June 30th north in Virginia of route 234 and I dont know anything about fishing. I thought about my 9yr daughter what do I say... how do I teach her... etc Thankyou very much. I Found your channel while searching "how to fish after a storm". Your video was amongst others. GOD Bless you and your beloved family. I cant wait:)
Great videos. My 8year old son and I have been learning a lot from them. You made mention about being impressed by Nj’s amount of lakes with access to bank fish. Are there any in particular that would recommend
Nice video I did buy those kids rods you talked about but may I add to your video I also bought tethers so the pole is attached to the life jacket so they don't throw the rod in the water or drop it
I recently took my 2 older kids, 8 and 10, out to a local pond. They must've caught 2 dozen bluegill and didn't want to leave. I stopped fishing just to help and watch them. It was a blast!
I didn't grow up fishing and I started because my son, who was almost 3 at the time, saw my neighbor kids going and he wanted to try. So, I started teaching myself, and thus I found your channel. My son started with a Mickey rod and reel. I wanted him to have something that he wanted to play with. I didn't care about how smooth it was or anything else. I just wanted it in his hands. We put safety bobbers on it (the line goes through the bobber and the hook buries inside it whenever it is reeled in), which are amazing for the little ones, and used hot dogs for bait. Over two years he caught more bluegill than I can count with the occasional small catfish and bass. We just bank fish at a little 5 acre lake that is walking distance from our house. After two years I let him try the KVD minnow crank baits. He has been hammering bass and bluegill with those. Last night I let him try a little miniature texas rig with the zman fineese worms they make for the ned rigs and he caught the biggest bass of his life. All of that was on the Mickey pole. His 5th birthday is coming up and he is just now getting ready to get a spinning rod. He has shown interest in mine and can cast it so he is getting an upgrade and will get to pick it out so that he stays interested. Long story short, the rod/reel don't matter when starting out as long as they want to use it. You will know when they outgrow it. Thanks for your channel and content. It has helped me a ton which makes it more fun for my son and I. We now fish 3-6 times a week for a couple hours at a time. He loves it and it is a way for us to spend some good quality time together. He also loves sports and we play a ton, but fishing is different. It slows things down and gives us time to talk and enjoy being together. One thing that I would love to see is a "teach your kids to handle fish" video. That is one thing I haven't figured out. I do all of the releasing....and he catches a lot of fish. If I could get him to handle his own catch my fishing time doubles!
Really love your videos I live in a small county in Tennessee and I live in a lake and I fish almost five times a week. Keep up the good work. And you should fish Cordell Hull lake in Tennessee
MAN ..........sooo love this video!!!! I have 3 boys and a country boss girl too. Two kids (the girl and youngest boy ) love to fish but don't have the bass patience. They only want the drop catch release numbers style. I really want them to get the slaunch donkey just 1 time!!!!
Great timing buddy , gearing up for a kids trip this week. I always thought you probably had an angel wife and you certainly do Sir. Thanks for everything , over
@flukemaster Loved the video, was reassuring in some of the things I'm already doing with my 4 kids (3 girls 1 boy). My girls are happy fishing with worms and hot dogs catching whatever comes their way. My son though has seen me fishing and catch a couple big bass, and now he wants to fish with artificial lures like I do. He's 5 and hasn't caught anything since I switched him to this more advanced method. He's still having some fun but I'd like to get him catching fish. Any suggestions? I've thought about having keep fishing with bobbers and worms, etc. We bank fish a small new man made pond near our house. Thanks.
Great video, man. Thank you. Been getting my boys into fishing finally. I think they are getting hooked. Question for you. I'm at Long Branch Lakes this week with my wife. Any idea on what to toss at 'em?
Damn good video! I made the mistake of trying to fish while trying to teach my 1st 2 boys to fish. Now they have minimal interest because I got so frustrated with them. I've changed my tactics with my 3rd son and pretty much did exactly what this video talks about....now I have a future tournament partner!
It’s funny you mention the Barbie rods, I recently got my girlfriend into fishing and she was adamant on getting the $15 Jurassic Park rod. Luckily I quickly taught her to cast a spinning rod and she loves it. As a running joke I do occasionally pickup a Barbie rod every once in a while and it’s extra hilarious when you catch something on it, everything feels like a monster on those things lol
My daughter lives 3200 miles away from me. Fishing is our bonding time, when we catch up and when we get to know one another. She is 9 now and has been fishing for roughly three years. She loves catching bait and cleaning fish....also a fan of finding the bait in the stomach of her catch. She will even surprise me by telling me what the local regulations are at the time for each season. Education starts at a young age, and hell they can teach us a thing or two about life when we think about it. It definitely takes patience on our part as a parent, but well worth it.
awesome video man! Some very good advice here. I lucked out my 4 love it. The girl who is 7 see's it as a challenge to try an beat the boys. Lol shes gunnin' for her daddy next! Keep up the awesome content! Thanks from Oklahoma, Nick.
Just what I was hoping for-good video even for us experienced fishing on our own. A couple tips of my own... Bring extra snacks, kid snacks. Peanuts are a mess, but so much fun. Coloring books. There's a hard no electronics rule on my boat, but my goodness have we colored some pictures.
Stymie is 4 years old turning 5 in December and as soon as he catches a fish on his little zebco rod he immediately reels once or twice and then starts walking backwards to pull it in I tell him to stay at the bank and to continue to just real the fish in.....but he automatically wants to walk backwards real fast as soon as he catches it I can't get him to stand still....
Way to go Gene!! This is the reason that I started to watch your channel in the first place. Also, I am glad to see "mom" at your side with her support and tips for the other moms out there with kids learning to fish. Keep up the good work!!!
Before going fishing with my five kids between 7 and 15 ,I found your video and it's really helpful !!thanx to share!!
big thanks from Toronto...taking my son fishing and this video was perfect

Gene, thank you so much for doing this video. I love showing people, especially kids, to fish. Have a great weekend. Tight lines.
Thank you SO much. We just moved and live on a big pond. I fished when I was much younger but wasn’t 100% sure where to start with teaching my girls. My husband is deployed so I’m on my own! This was SUPER helpful.
Thanks so much for this! My little guy is a shade past three and I've been thinking about how to get him started one of these days. Great outline.
Thanks! This is really helpful. My son is asking to go fishing, and I've never been! My husband is deployed, so I'm trying to learn. We'll see how this goes.

Have 4 kids and can confirm, divide and conquer as much as you can. LDS?
Flukemaster Yes sir! You actually know a couple of my cousin's spouses. Jennifer Barnett Gardner and Jeff Johnson.
That's right. I remember now. Sorry about that.
I wish more people like you were on UA-cam. This was awesome information.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice to see Mrs. Fluke on here. Hope y'all do more videos together in the future!
Great video fluke! I just recently took my 3 year old little girl fishing and it was very stressful. Next time thanks to you I’m going to leave my stuff at home and just help her. I’m sure we’ll both have a much better time! Thanks man, love your channel so much!
Thanks man
Thanks! I'm a new subscriber. I started watching so I can learn to fish, and hopefully (when he's a bit older) take my son fishing...
My family just got into fishing, this week. My daughters have already spent hours practicing in the yard. They check their 6 and their line everytime they cast. I think I'll try the 5 gal bucket trick.
Taking my 6 y.o. girl fishing in a few days. This video was very helpful!
Great Video, Great looking Family. Thanks again for the tips. That was a breath of fresh air. Keep it going.
Thank you.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching
Love this, keep up the great work! Keep the teaching coming!
Great video Fluke! My 6 year old loves to fish. I take him as much as I can and the struggle is real.... lol...
Great video bud. It’s been a bear trying to teach my son to fish. You definitely gave me a new way to approach this. Thanks man and keep up the good work.

Great video! thanks a lot, you are a great couple! Greetings from La Paz, Baja California Sur Mexico
Important topic and great video! Thanks.
Really love your videos I live in a small county in Tennessee and I live in a lake and I fish almost five times a week. Keep up the good work. And you should fish Cordell Hull lake in Tennessee

Great timing buddy , gearing up for a kids trip this week. I always thought you probably had an angel wife and you certainly do Sir. Thanks for everything , over
Mrs. Flukemaster! It's great to see you, Tiffany! RES misses you. How did I not know your husband is THE FLUKEMASTER!?!
Darren Scheyer I miss you guys at RES too! Tell everybody I said Hi and hug your cute girls for me❤️
Instead of catching big fish, my kids compete with each other and try to see who can catch the smallest fish.
Dink tournaments can be fun. Especially if the fishing is slow.
@flukemaster Loved the video, was reassuring in some of the things I'm already doing with my 4 kids (3 girls 1 boy). He's 5 and hasn't caught anything since I switched him to this more advanced method. He's still having some fun but I'd like to get him catching fish. Any suggestions? I've thought about having keep fishing with bobbers and worms, etc. We bank fish a small new man made pond near our house. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this awesome video . I have a Jakey too and he’s very impatient and competitive. How do I combat that while fishing ? He’s 8.
Great video, man. Thank you. Been getting my boys into fishing finally. I think they are getting hooked. Question for you. I'm at Long Branch Lakes this week with my wife. Any idea on what to toss at 'em?
Awesome video and some very good ideas. Keep it
Awesomely wholesome video thank you very much
Good video brother. I actually just started teaching my 3 year old girl.
Damn good video! I made the mistake of trying to fish while trying to teach my 1st 2 boys to fish. Now they have minimal interest because I got so frustrated with them. I've changed my tactics with my 3rd son and pretty much did exactly what this video talks about....now I have a future tournament partner!
3:55 The Kid Is So Cute. I really Enjoyed The Whole Video. Waiting For Your Next One.
Getting the boy out fishing or hunting is my favorite! And now he wanted to start filming so here we are...
This is so great! Thank you 🙏🏼
Great Vid! Always good to come out to this site!
Wonderful video Gene. Some great, great advice. As far as budgeting your tackle, LISTEN TO YOUR WIFE. LOL That shirt looks great on her btw.
Great video. Very good tips. The go home after the third request and dont take your own stuff fishing -- be your kids guide is the best.
Bought my daughter a full setup for her 8th birthday. I’m hoping the rain stops so I can take her out. Thanks for the help.
awesome video man! Some very good advice here. I lucked out my 4 love it. The girl who is 7 see's it as a challenge to try an beat the boys. Lol shes gunnin' for her daddy next! Keep up the awesome content! Thanks from Oklahoma, Nick.

God bless fishing families!
This was an awesome video! Thank you so much! ❤️
Great video very helpful
Great skills to teach my future children
Love your video! Keep it up!
You guys are soooo awesome for this😍
Stymie is 4 years old turning 5 in December and as soon as he catches a fish on his little zebco rod he immediately reels once or twice and then starts walking backwards to pull it in I tell him to stay at the bank and to continue to just real the fish in.....but he automatically wants to walk backwards real fast as soon as he catches it I can't get him to stand still....
Your little daughter came out right on cue. Tell her good job 👍🏼
Great vid - thanks!
