not sure if anyone cares but if you're bored like me during the covid times then you can watch pretty much all the new series on Instaflixxer. I've been watching with my girlfriend these days xD
This film and the story behind Tangerine's shooting style is a testament that you don't need a whole lot to make a decent movie. The characters, acting, writing, pacing and interesting location made this movie a delight and none of that could be elevated by thousands of dollars worth of camera equipment or bloated amount of crew members. The no frills approach probably made it even more enjoyable because of how genuine and real it all feels.
director is selling himself short. film cost 100K to make, it grossed over 600K or maybe 700K. either way this is awesome and should inspire all young film makers to try something
@@TheWatchFrogs I know this is an old comment, but they didn't pay editors since Sean edited this himself, they have to have a "minimum" wage on contracts for movies no matter how indie, but i'm sure that's ghost money. 10% of that money went to paying for locations, extras, 90% was ghost money and distribution/production type arrangements
Love this movie! I have mix feelings about Da Academy: on one hand, they’re stuck up & full of them selves. On the other hand, they come across as if they’re actually “working class” people who seem to celebrate the human struggle.
I honestly got bored with the movie at first viewing and thought the first two acts were terrible but when the climax came, I found myself laughing and I decided that I have to rewatch it and so I did and I liked it then. I find the acting authentic especially Mya Taylor although I'm a bit sad that her and Kiki Rodriguez's career did not really peaked after Tangerine except that Mya Taylor got to play the iconic Marsha P. Johnson in one movie, also, I like how realistic and raw the movie is and the story it gave us is rare and I am happy to see trans women being represented in film and they are played by ACTUAL trans people, not Jared Leto playing dress-up or Hilary Swank playing a transman because people says she looks like a man (both won Oscars for playing TRANS characters) or Scarlet Johannsson fighting for her "right" as an actor to play a trans character. This is the kind of representation we needed not actors playing the characters that's not supposed to be played by them.
I love how geeked out the director is explaining the shoot. Love that passion

@Howard Dominick yup, I've been watching on InstaFlixxer for since november myself :)
@@korbyncamilo4789 Shut up bots. We're talking about a good movie.
"Tangerine" is my favorite Sean Baker movie. Love this guy's work. Pure genius.
You have to have some big balls to pitch a half million dollar film and shooting it with iPhones. My respect.
I thought the budget was like a fifth of that D:

Sean Baker is one of the most exciting directors right now 🤩

100k?? In which universe? It cost him a thousand bucks to shoot and the movie made a million dollars from sales.
@@bluerabbit1236 they had to pay people bro, you have to pay editors and all sorts of other people.

He definitely inspires me, I just finished watching Starlet. Almost the entire movie is filmed in my hometown Van Nuys ca.
this film is very sweet, sad, gentle but so brutal at the same time... i'm glad i came across it
It's also very funny
This is and will always be one of the best films I’ve ever seen and I don’t say that lightly, I’m a 43 year old Arthouse Film Nerd 🤓.
Awesome. This was groundbreaking.
This is the future of America and I applaud it. No racism, no sexism, no gender discrimination. The future is looking to be a better place.
lol
This did not age well
At least there was some optimism
@@maxciulla8302 Please explain what you mean.
I’m speechless. Amazing! I nominate this film.
amazing movie. wished more film makers would make movies that are like this.
I personally didn't love the movie but I can appreciate the passion for film making and telling a story that wouldn't be told otherwise.

Such a amazing film, studied it for a dissertation and may not have encountered it otherwise
👏
The film's a hoot. The showdown on Donut Time, it's indeed the climax of the film. XD
Beautiful movie.
easy to grab inspiration from this. thank you Sean Baker!
It's so sad that the area where they shot the film is gentrified now.
No it's not. That place sucked.
Someone can find the mics? They used?
What camera is this interview video filmed with?
DONUT TIME WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!!!
I want to take a field trip to the Academy Museum
so happy for this guy!

Acting is playing pretend. Who are you to decide who gets to play what part?
Bravo!!!!
Anyone know what adapter he used?
If you mean the anamorphic lens, it was from Moondog Labs -- their first generation (he mentions that he saw their Kickstarter campaign).
Hey Sean, Can you get me into Severins cellar?
Thought this was a good film.
true both desert imagine supporter rear late close although gentle.
