If my starter horse died, I would be very upset. There would be a missing piece in my stable. I've spent almost 7 years with my starter. But, I agree with Eleanor. Parents would be outraged if their kids were crying because their virtual best friend was killed. I also don't think sso is stupid enough to do that

I think it will be a flashback to the previous incarnation of our horse's death? I don't believe they'd kill our horse, I mean not everyone buys new horses and I just really don't think killing their only horse would be a good move for a game where you basically have to have a horse to do anything. Maybe we can teach our horse to play dead at some point. Just a random idea, and a funny one in my opinion. I have a dark sense of humor, I know. If I could teach my starter horse or just any horse to play dead, I would.

Here are my theories: 1. Our horse WAS going to die, but sso changed plans. The questionable codes appeared in the game's files about 2 years ago, so if sso was going to make the starter die, it would have already happened. As Eleanor said, most players are emotionally attatched to their starter horse, as it's the first and most "special" horse in the game, so it's death would be upsetting to many players. Moreover, sso is targeted at children, so it would be very mean of sso to make a kid's favorite horse die and it would probably get them a ton of outrage from the parents. To make this theory even more believable, in an sso workplace review (From a video by sso youtuber Star Stable Updates) an sso employee said that sso has gotten through some leadership changes, so all the original plans have been scrapped. Those scrapped plans most likely included making the starter die. 2. It's not about our starter horse, it's about Concorde! The horse with the "dead" codes also has "flying" codes, so it is thought to be our starter, as it's the only horse who can fly in the quests. But maybe it is not? Concorde, just like the starter and other soul rider horses, is a starbred, a horse with magical abilities. Maybe she could fly? Maybe we are getting quests where we find out what exactly happened to Anne and Concorde before she was trapped in Pandoria, and we will see what exactly killed Concorde? In recent quests, we were going back in time to save Fripp, so maybe we will go back in time again, to save Concorde this time? In "saving Fripp storyline Anne seems to be upset with the "new" reborn Concorde, and missing her old dead Concorde, so this might be a hint to a new storyline... 3. Our starter IS going to die. If the plans to kill it were scrapped, then why are those codes still in the game files? There's still a faint chance of our horse dying in a quest. I HIGHLY doubt it's death is gonna be permanent tho. First of all, the obvious reasons I talked about in previous theory. Secondly, we all know that sso is not a realistic game, there's magic everywhere in world of Jorvik. If the starter died, it would come back to life because of some sort of magic "saving" it. Remember the sleeping willow quest storyline, where our horse's leg got shattered by a bear trap? Lisa saved it using star circle's healing magic. If anything serious is going to happen to our horse, magic will save it. We are soul riders, and our horses are magical starbreds, after all! But... There's one thing bugging me. Do you remember what happened to Elizabeth, too? We were not able to save her, despite all the magic we have... If we couldn't save her, a very story-important character, why would we be able to save a horse? Star circle magic has power of healing, but is it strong enough to beat death?... 3. Playing dead! Maybe our horse will play dead instead of actually dying? It can be a quest thing, or an april fools joke maybe? Or are we getting a new feature, where we can teach our starter tricks, like playing dead? It would be really cool, and it would make our starters even more special! Ok, that's it for now. These were my theories about the questionable codes in the game's files
for your second theory, I cant really remember much of the main story cuz I did it about 2 years ago but I slightly remember we were jumping off from Dark Core's edge with our starter to save someone at the Dark Core, then our starter grew wings then fly back to the platform, "fly" code was for that I think...

There has been a glitch of some sort around the oil rig a while ago, if you went into photo mode whilst jumping off the oil rig at just the right time and moving your camera to the right angle you could see Starshine, so an idea I share with a few people (we all have it) is that Starshine dies. The .pan got me thinking (keep in mind that I don’t go into the files but like to theorise about the game) could it be a moving camera? Like a cutscene, the camera pans to the side of the dead horse over to the other soul riders, etc

Hey Eleanor! I don’t know if you will read this, but while I was playing through the saving Fripp quests I realized something: Linda got locked in Silverglade Castle, Lisa got trapped in a weird portal thing, and Anne was stuck in Pandoria for three months, but nothing has ever happened to Alex. And I wonder if something will. I don’t really have any evidence yet, but based on the pattern of the story I just feel like she is going to get trapped somewhere eventually. I mean I guess you could count when the character an Alex got trapped while saving Anne, but I’m not really sure if that counts because we were there with her. I’d love to know you what think of this theory :) Also, another thing I wanted to mention was I heard something (I think it was from Star Stable Theorist) I’m not really sure if it’s a theory yet, but one of the theorists mentioned the fact that there is no moon in Jorvik. I think that is pretty weird, considering the fact that there is a MOON circle. Just an afterthought, but still thought I should mention it anyway.
6:18 the only thing I can think of that are the same for every horse breed is the whinny and snorting sounds, but that I don't think is relevant. In any case, yeah I just don't believe that our horse or any horse will die in real time. Someone mentioned a flashback, and that could be it, like flash back to Catherine's memories. I just think it might cause too much controversy, although Elizabeth "died" so idk.
This morning while playing, I was at Silverglade manor between Carney and the baronesse's car... a dialogue button appeared and I dunno if it's a bug or if it is for a futur quest but I found it interesting.
Random note but I have an update with the Buttersworth vampire theory. In one of the new quests you do for the forest horses, one of them finds themselves at the ranch trying to be taken by one of the Buttersworth. When you rescue it one of the farmers say something along the lines of, "Get out of here you bloodsucker," or something like that.
I think that if our starter does die, we will get the Rune Runner as a stand by, but then we could try doing like, a ritual like the thing we did to save Fripp to get our starter back to life. Then it could come back as a foal and we could raise it like we did with Concord.
Also remember, our starter horse in its past life was Catherine's horse, so it already has technically "died" i think it would be interesting if our starter died, to make our characters go through a grieving period, like as a main story quest
You know, I wasn't even thinking about what the parents would say if a horse died xD I'm a "senior" player (age 20+), and wouldn't be devastated but definitely upset if any horse of mine, or any NPC horse in the game, should perish. The starter horse isn't my favourite, but I still don't wanna kill it off D: I can't help but recall the reaction of a parent regarding a cliffhanger happening in a horse tv series where the main horse was captured and... you'd have to wait for the, at the time, un-aired next season to see what would happen next. The daughter watching was distraught! She was about 8 or 9 at the time, I believe. The parent was angry - I was the "lucky" audience of their rant about how outrageous it was to just end the season on a cliffhanger like that. So, when you mentioned the death of a horse, possibly our starter, I'd believe a lot of parents of the younger players would react, alright o: At least if it should become a permanent thing - a quest could possibly include the death of the starter horse and rebirth within the same quest/update. On the note of death and rebirth though - I am not a fan of the female Concorde xD I can accept he was finished off and reborn, but I am nOT a fan of the gender change as for me he's always been male and will continue being male, even if (or even though* would be more correct) sso make him a female in the game. I really do hope no horse death will happen though. Keep in mind, sso, your main target here is younger players x:
I feel the same way about Concorde. If they wanted a trans character, I feel like they should have made a new one to get the point across better, not alter an established character and add this randomly. My trans friend is actually upset about it and didn't like it at all either!
I kinda hope our starter will die, then get brought back to life.. It would create this sense of loss and you'd be panicing and probably sobbing. I would be SO interested in a main quest like that
I really don't think SSO would want to anger their audience by killing off the starter horse, so I agree with you! I still think it's possible for these files to be just a dangerous fall thing or maybe something to do with Concorde's death, but what I personally believe is that these files are about a certain fragment from Catherine's memories! In the memory taking place in Guardian's dale, Linda says "half a soul gone, just like that" after Catherine's horse disappears, leaving her alone there. To me, this implies that Catherine's horse somehow died while they were attempting to do something. Also, because our character sort of shares a destiny with Catherine, I think it could somehow explain her horse's files being titled similarly to ours. But we can't really be sure. And because of that, until proven otherwise, I think I'll just stick to thinking that those files are something SSO just put in there to mess with curious people going through the game files.
Remember when you said that we don't know Skye's mom in the mistfall series... actually we do. In the second episode when Rania show the photo album, on the first page we can see both kids with there mothers. Just I thought you would like to know.

I think it would more likely to be a flash back of Concorde's death because we haven't quite jumped into that rabbit hole yet. But then again, with a younger audience, would they really want to show that? Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
You may probably be absolutely right, but hear me out: I remember when the theory was new and everyone spoke about it, some said it would make no sense, because there are probably some players (a very few, but existent) who don't have another horse, just their starter one, so killing the starter horse would be just too complicated to cover. I mean, the game could force you to buy another horse the way they did with the pony, but still, a pretty weak argument. But then SSO gave us the soul riding, and when I saw that the last reward you got for completing it was a horse, everything clicked to me. I mean, it is quite strange for sso to give us a horse for free in exchange of training, but this theory could justify it (and it wouldn't be the first time sso forced us to complete some sort of side quests in order to play newer quests, so there could be a point wherethey release a main story quest saying "you need to have completed the soul riding to be able to play"). This is pure speculation of course, but I still wouldn't completely scrap the theory of our starter horse dying, at least temporarily, and the rune runner would replace it until we got it back. Of course I'm speaking as a senior player (I'm 21) who would be very sad to see her starter horse go, but I would also find it super exciting and interesting (I'm a sucker for a good dramatic story). But what you said about little kids crying and parents outraging is also very accurate, it just never crossed my mind haha. Great video Eleanor!
This is my theory: 1. If our horse dies, its strange how they gifted us the Rune Runner, we had to do soul rider training to get it 🤨, what if the rune runner is our next soulHorse? Why soulrider training if we never really used it? 2. There is a spoiler about TinCan under the sea at the oil thingy, why is he under there?, maybe its because they hid it like the new maya remodel, they hid the old one under our stables floor 3. In halloween , in one of the roller coasters, there was a image of a unicorn, mr. sands and dark riders around it?, who is that horse?, will it be our starter? It is said it has something to do to free garnok under the sea, they needed this " horse magic " 4. It could be just for when our horse takes a dangerous fall ANYWAYS, WHO KNOWS?!?! 😶
I always assumed there will be a dramatic build up during one of the story quests where our horse dies, but MC brings it back to life with the power of Aideen or something. I think SSO would go for something like this.

I remember a long time ago, before they increased horse regeneration, that our horses could die, but then get revived when we were teleported to our home stables. Our characters could also die if we got too close to the stone pillars we were blowing up. Since a ton of players are past the stone pillars being blown to pieces and we can no longer kill our horses, they probably left the code in to prevent a game crash or glitch from happening, like how windows still has their very first system files in their current version of windows
im probably one of the only people who actually isn't very attached to my starter. I've always disliked how sso tries to force this bond between us and our starter. I would much rather prefer if we could choose which horse is our soul horse. Maybe just an option on one of the horse panels that says "make this my soul horse" and when you click it, it updates that horse to be considered your soul horse. It doesn't affect the main quests in anyway and just makes it so you can have that "special bond" with any horse of your choosing.
When you search up what .pan files mean its a panorama scene, meaning its a cut scene where the player doesn't interact (Like an example would be Alex and Elizabeth when trapped in Pandoria and black borders pop up). Not sure if I'm correct so take this with grain of salt.
Games love to take turns for the worst. A game called Fable II for instance has a quest in it that your dog dies and you have the choice to choose between saving x amount of people or reviving the dog. This quest also gives or takes reputation if you answer it the different ways. Perhaps this will be like something we see in the game. Choosing to Revive our horse or save our fellow soul riders perhaps, We will never know.
Ty for this video (and all yr other amazing ones ofc) So, here`s my opinion: I don`t think our starter horses will die, as this is a kids game, and it` s obvious some player (almost certainly multiple) would cry if it happened. And SSO want ppl doing the quests, so they should find it clear that if the players knew at some point in these quests their horse will die, they would stop doing them. It`s also possible ppl have spent SC on their starter horse, so that would be a waste of money. IK you don`t have to buy them with SC, but some people buy certain outfits for all their horses, and you do get the option to change your starter`s appearance for SC, so there will be ppl who have spent money on them, so it`s hard to believe SSO would make that wasted money. However, if one of our horses does die, I think it would be our starter, since we`ve definetely payed for all the others. I do rlly like your theory of the dying horse being a horse that isn`t one of ours too; there are a lot of NPC horses that could possibly die, and, as you said, a flashback of Concorde`s death would be interesting. However, some children may still find any horse in the game dying sad, so I overall don`t think they`ll be any dying horses in the game. I also had a random theory that maybe there could be a dead horse in our character`s dream or something, or maybe even just a Dark Core or GED NPC threatening to kill our horse. But I don`t think it will be part of a quest though, since, as you said, the code`s been there for 2 years. Ty for reading my theory!

I think there is going to be new generation of horses, and our starter horse is going to be the first horse in gen.4. So sso team maybe get this idea of “death” of our horse, and one scene later there will be our brand new starter horse in new generation

There’s risks that would come with the quests. If you don’t want to get slightly or possibly majorly scared I recommend to not read the following- What if someone doesn’t complete the quest? What if there’s a glitch and people don’t get their starter horse back? What if nobody at all can figure out how to do the quest to get our starter back? (Assuming it’s some sort of puzzle / race etc) What if the sso team can’t fix the glitch? Bit of a big risk, don’t you think-?
I actually had a theory that it is ours that dies, but it's because it steps in between us and a darkrider who then hit it instead of us and it dies. Or because there is mentioned about our character dying, it brings us back but it costs it's own life doing so. But the horse returns sometime later, possibly with a new look/model (and obviously younger) and all is well. I'd honestly LOVE for it to happen, but then I know it wouldn't have much of an impact because i'm 100% sure the horse would pop back up again the same day because of the children, which I do understand why it would have been like that. But there is a bigger chance it's us seeing more clearly the event of catherin and her horse.
I would definitely not do the quest if my starter horse would die. I spend all my years with my starter horse and I don’t want to lose it. I think sso is gonna let our starter horse die but let it return a couple of quests later because in the story, our starterhorse is a starbreed (sorry I’m bad at english, hope I pronounced it right) so maybe it will return as a foal just like concorde! Or maybe we need to find it back in pandoria just like in star shine legacy

I died when you put that smiley on the horse his face 😂 Anyways, I wouldn't mind if our horse died and got reborn with a proper gen 3 coat and maybe even wings and a horn. It would be a good and impactful storylinequest. I don't think sso would actually keep our starter horse dead, maybe for the first day of the quest and then find a way to rescue our horse the 2nd day. I'd actually love to play that! It would be emotional, thrilling and exciting in the end when we see our horse renewed.
@Ham I don't see a problem being upset with a fictional horse dying. A lot of people in their 20s-30s felt upset. One UA-camr, Mars, got red and the face and sounded like she was about to cry when the horse died. Arthur even runs to his horse's side, comforts it, and whispers in its ear. That alone can make people upset.
Maybe they will and somehow come back like Concord but in a different form like you get to choose another breed or something. The druid ( Rune Runner ) Why would we get a free horse? Maybe that will become our new soul horse or something. I feel like this is gonna be like how Concord was and some how the horse or that soul of the horse comes back.

!!! I was just playing sso again and went up to the old Dark Core ridge by Valedale Lake and realized that it is basically right next to Dino Valley! What if this (the cave) is our way in to the Icengate or even possibly Ashland?? I don’t really know, it is just an idea. What are your thoughts?

I have something to add. . . I hope you guys aren't a fan of the one soul horse with a white coat and a blue mane. . .because OMG. Starshine is going to drown! I forgot what channel I saw this video on, but someone went into Dark Core Headquarters and. . .near the entrance if you go into the water and then press photo mode, if you get a good view you can see Starshine under the water. At first I thought it was edited, but then I saw him for myself. I think GC1_HorseDie.pan is a cutscene for Lisa's reaction as Starshine falls into the water. My theory is that Starshine makes a sacrifice for Lisa. Maybe a Dark Core worker is coming up behind Lisa to push her in the water, and Starshine takes her place instead. Also the part where you mentioned: "These files are scrapped by now. SSO would never wait 2 years and never release these quests." which is definitely true. But. . .for something as big as this. . .I would imagine they created the quest and then decided that they should wait to release it for when they are at a better point in the story. Right now one of the last main quests we ever do before the max level is Elizabeth's Funeral, so it would be way too much for a soul horse to die right after Elizabeth. Ok so since my brain refuses for me to get therapy, Imma just dump this story thing here Ig: About the our main character death thingy and at the same time about this whole thing. At the moment, I imagine my own character as tired and kind of.. in need of help? I mean, we help people around SO DAMN MUCH- I mean like- Wouldn't they be tired? Oh and lets not even talk about how NPCs sometimes walk away without waiting for us- So maybe on one mission, our character got no sleep last night bc they were sorting out if everything's ready to go to Pandoria, y'know? Then later on in the morning, some NPC needed help, and our character is just too kind hearted to not help. So basically. Then when the whole crew goes to Pandoria, no one even really notices our character. And at this point our characters only support is our horse. And since we're so tired, our horse decides to stop and help us get some rest. But then out of nowhere tentacles start coming outta somewhere and tries to grab us, so our horse starts like, running away or maybe even starts flying. Our horse gets to like Anne or something, and that's when everyone FINALLY notices how much lack of energy our character has. Although while everyone is gathering to help us somehow escape from the tentacles, they (tentacles) have gotten maybe even a little TOO close. And then BOOM! The tentacles grab our horse, BUT, I have 3 versions for like this scene. 1. The tentacles grab our horse, and our horse dies from something within the tentacles or just stress or somethin. 2. Our character saves the horse, but dies in return. 3. Both us and our horse die. And ofc, the people that went with us will feel guilty for 3, they (the people) will feel guilty and our character will blame them for scene 1. And for scene 2, guilty feelings for the peeps, and our horse will speak and say "this is all your fault" and fly away. Yes Ik, I really need therapy. :I

Maybe we can teach our horse to play dead at some point. Just a random idea, and a funny one in my opinion. I have a dark sense of humor, I know. If I could teach my starter horse or just any horse to play dead, I would.

Here are my theories:
1. Our horse WAS going to die, but sso changed plans. The questionable codes appeared in the game's files about 2 years ago, so if sso was going to make the starter die, it would have already happened. As Eleanor said, most players are emotionally attatched to their starter horse, as it's the first and most "special" horse in the game, so it's death would be upsetting to many players. Moreover, sso is targeted at children, so it would be very mean of sso to make a kid's favorite horse die and it would probably get them a ton of outrage from the parents. To make this theory even more believable, in an sso workplace review (From a video by sso youtuber Star Stable Updates) an sso employee said that sso has gotten through some leadership changes, so all the original plans have been scrapped. Those scrapped plans most likely included making the starter die.
2. It's not about our starter horse, it's about Concorde! The horse with the "dead" codes also has "flying" codes, so it is thought to be our starter, as it's the only horse who can fly in the quests. But maybe it is not? Concorde, just like the starter and other soul rider horses, is a starbred, a horse with magical abilities. Maybe she could fly? Maybe we are getting quests where we find out what exactly happened to Anne and Concorde before she was trapped in Pandoria, and we will see what exactly killed Concorde? In recent quests, we were going back in time to save Fripp, so maybe we will go back in time again, to save Concorde this time? In "saving Fripp storyline Anne seems to be upset with the "new" reborn Concorde, and missing her old dead Concorde, so this might be a hint to a new storyline...
3. Our starter IS going to die. If the plans to kill it were scrapped, then why are those codes still in the game files? There's still a faint chance of our horse dying in a quest. I HIGHLY doubt it's death is gonna be permanent tho. First of all, the obvious reasons I talked about in previous theory. Secondly, we all know that sso is not a realistic game, there's magic everywhere in world of Jorvik. If the starter died, it would come back to life because of some sort of magic "saving" it. Remember the sleeping willow quest storyline, where our horse's leg got shattered by a bear trap? Lisa saved it using star circle's healing magic. If anything serious is going to happen to our horse, magic will save it. We are soul riders, and our horses are magical starbreds, after all! But... There's one thing bugging me. Do you remember what happened to Elizabeth, too? We were not able to save her, despite all the magic we have... If we couldn't save her, a very story-important character, why would we be able to save a horse? Star circle magic has power of healing, but is it strong enough to beat death?...
3. Playing dead! Maybe our horse will play dead instead of actually dying? It can be a quest thing, or an april fools joke maybe? Or are we getting a new feature, where we can teach our starter tricks, like playing dead? It would be really cool, and it would make our starters even more special!

for your second theory, I cant really remember much of the main story cuz I did it about 2 years ago but I slightly remember we were jumping off from Dark Core's edge with our starter to save someone at the Dark Core, then our starter grew wings then fly back to the platform, "fly" code was for that I think...

There has been a glitch of some sort around the oil rig a while ago, if you went into photo mode whilst jumping off the oil rig at just the right time and moving your camera to the right angle you could see Starshine, so an idea I share with a few people (we all have it) is that Starshine dies. The .pan got me thinking (keep in mind that I don’t go into the files but like to theorise about the game) could it be a moving camera? Like a cutscene, the camera pans to the side of the dead horse over to the other soul riders, etc

Hey Eleanor! I don’t know if you will read this, but while I was playing through the saving Fripp quests I realized something: Linda got locked in Silverglade Castle, Lisa got trapped in a weird portal thing, and Anne was stuck in Pandoria for three months, but nothing has ever happened to Alex. And I wonder if something will.
I don’t really have any evidence yet, but based on the pattern of the story I just feel like she is going to get trapped somewhere eventually. I mean I guess you could count when the character an Alex got trapped while saving Anne, but I’m not really sure if that counts because we were there with her. I’d love to know you what think of this theory :)
Also, another thing I wanted to mention was I heard something (I think it was from Star Stable Theorist) I’m not really sure if it’s a theory yet, but one of the theorists mentioned the fact that there is no moon in Jorvik. I think that is pretty weird, considering the fact that there is a MOON circle. Just an afterthought, but still thought I should mention it anyway.

6:18 the only thing I can think of that are the same for every horse breed is the whinny and snorting sounds, but that I don't think is relevant. In any case, yeah I just don't believe that our horse or any horse will die in real time. Someone mentioned a flashback, and that could be it, like flash back to Catherine's memories. I just think it might cause too much controversy, although Elizabeth "died" so idk.

Random note but I have an update with the Buttersworth vampire theory. In one of the new quests you do for the forest horses, one of them finds themselves at the ranch trying to be taken by one of the Buttersworth. When you rescue it one of the farmers say something along the lines of, "Get out of here you bloodsucker," or something like that.

I think that if our starter does die, we will get the Rune Runner as a stand by, but then we could try doing like, a ritual like the thing we did to save Fripp to get our starter back to life. Then it could come back as a foal and we could raise it like we did with Concord.

You know, I wasn't even thinking about what the parents would say if a horse died xD I'm a "senior" player (age 20+), and wouldn't be devastated but definitely upset if any horse of mine, or any NPC horse in the game, should perish. The starter horse isn't my favourite, but I still don't wanna kill it off D:
I can't help but recall the reaction of a parent regarding a cliffhanger happening in a horse tv series where the main horse was captured and... you'd have to wait for the, at the time, un-aired next season to see what would happen next. The daughter watching was distraught! She was about 8 or 9 at the time, I believe. The parent was angry - I was the "lucky" audience of their rant about how outrageous it was to just end the season on a cliffhanger like that.
So, when you mentioned the death of a horse, possibly our starter, I'd believe a lot of parents of the younger players would react, alright o: At least if it should become a permanent thing - a quest could possibly include the death of the starter horse and rebirth within the same quest/update.
On the note of death and rebirth though - I am not a fan of the female Concorde xD I can accept he was finished off and reborn, but I am nOT a fan of the gender change as for me he's always been male and will continue being male, even if (or even though* would be more correct) sso make him a female in the game.
I really do hope no horse death will happen though. Keep in mind, sso, your main target here is younger players x:

I really don't think SSO would want to anger their audience by killing off the starter horse, so I agree with you! I still think it's possible for these files to be just a dangerous fall thing or maybe something to do with Concorde's death, but what I personally believe is that these files are about a certain fragment from Catherine's memories! In the memory taking place in Guardian's dale, Linda says "half a soul gone, just like that" after Catherine's horse disappears, leaving her alone there. To me, this implies that Catherine's horse somehow died while they were attempting to do something. Also, because our character sort of shares a destiny with Catherine, I think it could somehow explain her horse's files being titled similarly to ours. But we can't really be sure. And because of that, until proven otherwise, I think I'll just stick to thinking that those files are something SSO just put in there to mess with curious people going through the game files.
Remember when you said that we don't know Skye's mom in the mistfall series... actually we do. In the second episode when Rania show the photo album, on the first page we can see both kids with there mothers. Just I thought you would like to know.

I think it would more likely to be a flash back of Concorde's death because we haven't quite jumped into that rabbit hole yet. But then again, with a younger audience, would they really want to show that? Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
You may probably be absolutely right, but hear me out: I remember when the theory was new and everyone spoke about it, some said it would make no sense, because there are probably some players (a very few, but existent) who don't have another horse, just their starter one, so killing the starter horse would be just too complicated to cover. I mean, the game could force you to buy another horse the way they did with the pony, but still, a pretty weak argument. But then SSO gave us the soul riding, and when I saw that the last reward you got for completing it was a horse, everything clicked to me. I mean, it is quite strange for sso to give us a horse for free in exchange of training, but this theory could justify it (and it wouldn't be the first time sso forced us to complete some sort of side quests in order to play newer quests, so there could be a point wherethey release a main story quest saying "you need to have completed the soul riding to be able to play"). This is pure speculation of course, but I still wouldn't completely scrap the theory of our starter horse dying, at least temporarily, and the rune runner would replace it until we got it back.
Of course I'm speaking as a senior player (I'm 21) who would be very sad to see her starter horse go, but I would also find it super exciting and interesting (I'm a sucker for a good dramatic story). But what you said about little kids crying and parents outraging is also very accurate, it just never crossed my mind haha. Great video Eleanor!

This is my theory:
1. If our horse dies, its strange how they gifted us the Rune Runner, we had to do soul rider training to get it 🤨, what if the rune runner is our next soulHorse? Why soulrider training if we never really used it?
2. There is a spoiler about TinCan under the sea at the oil thingy, why is he under there?, maybe its because they hid it like the new maya remodel, they hid the old one under our stables floor
3. In halloween , in one of the roller coasters, there was a image of a unicorn, mr. sands and dark riders around it?, who is that horse?, will it be our starter? It is said it has something to do to free garnok under the sea, they needed this " horse magic "
4. It could be just for when our horse takes a dangerous fall

I always assumed there will be a dramatic build up during one of the story quests where our horse dies, but MC brings it back to life with the power of Aideen or something. I think SSO would go for something like this.

I remember a long time ago, before they increased horse regeneration, that our horses could die, but then get revived when we were teleported to our home stables. Our characters could also die if we got too close to the stone pillars we were blowing up. Since a ton of players are past the stone pillars being blown to pieces and we can no longer kill our horses, they probably left the code in to prevent a game crash or glitch from happening, like how windows still has their very first system files in their current version of windows
im probably one of the only people who actually isn't very attached to my starter. I've always disliked how sso tries to force this bond between us and our starter. I would much rather prefer if we could choose which horse is our soul horse. Maybe just an option on one of the horse panels that says "make this my soul horse" and when you click it, it updates that horse to be considered your soul horse. It doesn't affect the main quests in anyway and just makes it so you can have that "special bond" with any horse of your choosing.

When you search up what .pan files mean its a panorama scene, meaning its a cut scene where the player doesn't interact (Like an example would be Alex and Elizabeth when trapped in Pandoria and black borders pop up). Not sure if I'm correct so take this with grain of salt.

Games love to take turns for the worst. A game called Fable II for instance has a quest in it that your dog dies and you have the choice to choose between saving x amount of people or reviving the dog. This quest also gives or takes reputation if you answer it the different ways. Perhaps this will be like something we see in the game. Choosing to Revive our horse or save our fellow soul riders perhaps, We will never know.

So, here`s my opinion:
I don`t think our starter horses will die, as this is a kids game, and it` s obvious some player (almost certainly multiple) would cry if it happened. And SSO want ppl doing the quests, so they should find it clear that if the players knew at some point in these quests their horse will die, they would stop doing them. It`s also possible ppl have spent SC on their starter horse, so that would be a waste of money. IK you don`t have to buy them with SC, but some people buy certain outfits for all their horses, and you do get the option to change your starter`s appearance for SC, so there will be ppl who have spent money on them, so it`s hard to believe SSO would make that wasted money. However, if one of our horses does die, I think it would be our starter, since we`ve definetely payed for all the others. I do rlly like your theory of the dying horse being a horse that isn`t one of ours too; there are a lot of NPC horses that could possibly die, and, as you said, a flashback of Concorde`s death would be interesting. However, some children may still find any horse in the game dying sad, so I overall don`t think they`ll be any dying horses in the game. I also had a random theory that maybe there could be a dead horse in our character`s dream or something, or maybe even just a Dark Core or GED NPC threatening to kill our horse. But I don`t think it will be part of a quest though, since, as you said, the code`s been there for 2 years.

I think there is going to be new generation of horses, and our starter horse is going to be the first horse in gen.4. So sso team maybe get this idea of “death” of our horse, and one scene later there will be our brand new starter horse in new generation

There’s risks that would come with the quests. If you don’t want to get slightly or possibly majorly scared I recommend to not read the following-
What if someone doesn’t complete the quest?
What if there’s a glitch and people don’t get their starter horse back?
What if nobody at all can figure out how to do the quest to get our starter back? (Assuming it’s some sort of puzzle / race etc)
What if the sso team can’t fix the glitch?
Bit of a big risk, don’t you think-?
I actually had a theory that it is ours that dies, but it's because it steps in between us and a darkrider who then hit it instead of us and it dies.
Or because there is mentioned about our character dying, it brings us back but it costs it's own life doing so.
But the horse returns sometime later, possibly with a new look/model (and obviously younger) and all is well.
I'd honestly LOVE for it to happen, but then I know it wouldn't have much of an impact because i'm 100% sure the horse would pop back up again the same day because of the children, which I do understand why it would have been like that.
But there is a bigger chance it's us seeing more clearly the event of catherin and her horse.
I would definitely not do the quest if my starter horse would die. I spend all my years with my starter horse and I don’t want to lose it. I think sso is gonna let our starter horse die but let it return a couple of quests later because in the story, our starterhorse is a starbreed (sorry I’m bad at english, hope I pronounced it right) so maybe it will return as a foal just like concorde! Or maybe we need to find it back in pandoria just like in star shine legacy

@Ham I don't see a problem being upset with a fictional horse dying. A lot of people in their 20s-30s felt upset. One UA-camr, Mars, got red and the face and sounded like she was about to cry when the horse died. Arthur even runs to his horse's side, comforts it, and whispers in its ear. That alone can make people upset.

I hope you guys aren't a fan of the one soul horse with a white coat and a blue mane. . .because OMG. Starshine is going to drown! I forgot what channel I saw this video on, but someone went into Dark Core Headquarters and. . .near the entrance if you go into the water and then press photo mode, if you get a good view you can see Starshine under the water. At first I thought it was edited, but then I saw him for myself. I think GC1_HorseDie.pan is a cutscene for Lisa's reaction as Starshine falls into the water. My theory is that Starshine makes a sacrifice for Lisa. Maybe a Dark Core worker is coming up behind Lisa to push her in the water, and Starshine takes her place instead.
Also the part where you mentioned: "These files are scrapped by now. SSO would never wait 2 years and never release these quests." which is definitely true. But. . .for something as big as this. . .I would imagine they created the quest and then decided that they should wait to release it for when they are at a better point in the story. Right now one of the last main quests we ever do before the max level is Elizabeth's Funeral, so it would be way too much for a soul horse to die right after Elizabeth.

I read somewhere the starshine 1 game has the same code and it's refer to when Starshine lying down.

Ok I’m not super attached to my Starter horse but my friend would loose it if she died. They always yell at me for not taking care of her cause she is their favorite.
My theory is our horse dies. Now, the story says that our horse can never really die, because it’s magical and always is reborn into another form. What if it’s like Concorde, our horse dies fighting DC and we have to go on a big quest to find their reincarnation 🤷♀️
If anything, our horse will die, then the player character will use the power of Aideen to revive them.
Ok so since my brain refuses for me to get therapy, Imma just dump this story thing here Ig:
About the our main character death thingy and at the same time about this whole thing. At the moment, I imagine my own character as tired and kind of.. in need of help? I mean, we help people around SO DAMN MUCH- I mean like- Wouldn't they be tired? Oh and lets not even talk about how NPCs sometimes walk away without waiting for us- So maybe on one mission, our character got no sleep last night bc they were sorting out if everything's ready to go to Pandoria, y'know? Then later on in the morning, some NPC needed help, and our character is just too kind hearted to not help. So basically. Then when the whole crew goes to Pandoria, no one even really notices our character. And at this point our characters only support is our horse. And since we're so tired, our horse decides to stop and help us get some rest. But then out of nowhere tentacles start coming outta somewhere and tries to grab us, so our horse starts like, running away or maybe even starts flying. Our horse gets to like Anne or something, and that's when everyone FINALLY notices how much lack of energy our character has. Although while everyone is gathering to help us somehow escape from the tentacles, they (tentacles) have gotten maybe even a little TOO close. And then BOOM! The tentacles grab our horse, BUT, I have 3 versions for like this scene. 1. The tentacles grab our horse, and our horse dies from something within the tentacles or just stress or somethin. 2. Our character saves the horse, but dies in return. 3. Both us and our horse die.
And ofc, the people that went with us will feel guilty for 3, they (the people) will feel guilty and our character will blame them for scene 1. And for scene 2, guilty feelings for the peeps, and our horse will speak and say "this is all your fault" and fly away.
