that you for being the first person I found that actually shows how to build the thing they are showing off when it comes to a start gate. I am trying to get into marble racing and every video I have found was " here's the start gate working" ok bye. Thank you so much for this.
You’re welcome. This would work great for marble racing. I was actually thinking of making a simple track. Fun! Cheers.
Sweet setup. And very generous of you to share with the Diecast community.
What a slick set up. Thanks for sharing!
Out Cold My Guy!!! I Shall. Build!!!!
Cool man! Thanks for sharing.
Love this!!!
Nice, Thanks for Sharing!
You’re welcome. I did create a finalized version of this start gate. Look at my 2020 treasure hunt showdown race.
Great build...I've already built a temporary version of this using a plastic hinge, wood dowels, hot glue and other bits and pieces, based on this video. Thanks! I would like to add a separate lever attached to the gate, to reset the hinged section, without having to reach under the track. Other than that, my final build, with metal parts as listed, will most likely be identical to what you have here.
Thanks again for your feedback. The future plans with this start gate is to have a arm on the other side to allow people to actually drag race each other. Was going to make a start light tree for the next version.
great video..making this today!
Thanks. If you have a look at my Treasure Hunt drag race, you can see the final version of this start gate. I made it stiffer and made sides for the track to lay perfectly straight. Cheers.
This was very helpful and simple. I'm sure I can find all the pieces in my backyard workshop.
I bought 2 gates from Slanman Customs. I broke both. 3D printing is not the way to go with moving parts.
This, or something like this, is way better. Thank you.
Thanks for the comment. My latest video shows the refined start gate with track guides (the guides really help the cars run smooth). Cheers.
@@MikeFreda Well, I m going to check that out, but I didn't see it. (I think)
@@MikeFreda Well, I still do not see it. I am on your page. Send a link or the title. thanks.

Good job
Thank you. If you look at my 2020 treasure hunt race, I use a finalized version of this startgate.
Hi Mike, I'm 90 % complete, came out really great. One more question, did you drill a hole in the screw that you attached the rear spring to or is that something available to purchase at the hardware store? I used a regular bolt, flattened it and rilled a hole which is fine but i can't put a nut on it to keep it snug. Tx
I used a regular bolt. I threaded a nut on first. Then filed down a small flat section, drilled a 1/8” hole then unthreaded the nut to make sure it threaded properly.
Cool video but remember I am the Thunder Road Champ. Won on your very own built track.
Thank you. True... but who told you what car to get to give you best chance to win?
@@MikeFreda you did :)
Hi Mike, is it possible to post the plans again for your start gate? The link attached to you video is not working.
Link fixed. Cheers.
@@MikeFreda Thank you Mike, this will be a great project for me and my grandson. Cheers!
You’re welcome!
Hi Mike, nice idea, want to make one for my grandson. Quick question, what are you using for the "pins"? Did you use aluminum dowels and tap them? Tx
Thank you. Yes, I used 3/8" dia aluminum solid round and I taped using a 10x24 tap.
You can also buy 1/4" round threaded aluminum standoffs at Ace Hardware. They come in different sizes with different thread pitches. These work great for the "pins".
Y the finishing lane
it's possible to make this with Lego Technic... with remote control
Yes, one could use lego to build this starting mechanism.
@@MikeFreda I've made a RC Technic Lego Start Gate based on your design! Works pretty good as you can see in the video I have made for you. ua-cam.com/video/CMfG5HAr7B8/v-deo.html
I don't have a Hot Wheels collection or a race track so I had to improvise a little. I have matched your start gate and have raised you a "Moving Belt Car Loader"! I hope you are not too jealous haha.
Of course the nice thing of Technic Lego is I didn't need any tools, just stick the parts together and add some motors.

Thanks for your comment. That pretty slick. I’m a lego person as well and have bins of technic lego. Not sure what the overall use is of your device… if it ran in a continuous loop would be fun to watch.
link for plans dont work
The link works for me. Here it is again: flyballequip.com/upload/53161/documents/F8E3AE1980F61017.pdf

List of materials?
Sorry, no parts list. Please have a look at this video of the completed/refined start ramp. I used a sheet of 8ft pine shelving. ua-cam.com/video/uqwUXd72U0c/v-deo.html
Do u have any point of contact ?
There is an email link in the "About" section of my UA-cam page. You may need to subscribe to my channel to see that. Cheers
As a grandfather I'm resisting the temptation to spoil my grandson. Instead I'm taking a more active role in his playtime and Hot Wheels offer a great way to spend quality time - I have indexed this video and posted a link on the DR-KNOW.BIZ website to help others spend quality time with their children or grandchildren.
