I was like a kid in a candy store looking at all those new parts. Great job and this should be a big help to all the restorers out there concerned about digging into their machines.
Early for once. So fun watching these cars get the treatment they deserve. I wish I had access to this kind of information 20 years ago when I had my '83 and '89. Thanks for posting!
No 5 minute dance music intro. No video before the video explaining what you may or may not do. Just a very tightly edited restoration video. Great stuff!
Thanks for sharing these very informative and well-documented videos! I just got my 1983 running (early 04/82 production date with 64K miles) after 11 years in storage. I watched many of your vids for reference and help when I got stuck. Keep up the good work!
Awesome! Some of those really early cars often have some pretty interesting parts. I'm always on the look out for unique models/parts. The earliest car that I had was an '83 that was built a full year after yours, so aside from the manual sunroof and manual steering rack all the other interesting stuff had been phased out. Hopefully, yours is one of the very cool and super interesting early ones! Thanks!
Hey man !!!! Nice work !!! I have a chance to buy a 88 924s. 55 thousand mile car . lots of maintance work done , 17 inch cup wheels 205 tires , great interior , medium blue , and in the hatch a saratoga sunroof in a bag !! 9 grand . thoughts ????😄😄😄😄😎😎🇺🇸🇩🇪🍺🍺🍺🍺
Nice spring compressor! It might be time for me to upgrade. 😂 I’ve been trying to track down data on the factory springs… do you know if the yellow dot springs on the M030 sport suspension offer a lower ride height than the base white dot springs, or just increased stiffness at the same height?
Thanks, yeah that compressor is really great and much safer to use than the older style! That said, the factory service manual Volume III has all the information on the various springs used. Whether it lowers the car might depend on the model it is coming from and being swapped onto. If the spring just has a single yellow dot and no other markings then it should be from a Group I 944 S with M030 suspension part no: 951-343-531-01. This particular spring isn't listed on any of the charts that I've found online since they only list the Group III springs. According to the manual your Group I M030 spring measures 396 mm removed. The base 944S spring measures 407mm removed which is a difference of 11mm in height. What this translates to in height on the car is unclear considering the added spring rate but it should lower it some. That said, if this is going on a base 944 then the stock springs measure 381mm removed. So with less weight on the springs and the added height its possible that it may raise the car. However, this is all speculation from working with the information that I have at hand. I hope that helps!
There aren’t any sleeves in this block and it actually looked great. So I used sunnen paste to hone them. Also the pistons looked good so I just replaced the rings. 👍
You've got that right! I've restored many cars but these have so many small details that have to be done right. Trying to clean up or find replacements for all of it is a full time job... then consider that we have ten cars here at the shop 😅
I have another question about the suspension. The first gen. 944's that had koni's and swaybars. Did they have boge or sachs struts in the US? Does it matter ? (can you put ko 8641 1038 sports in both?
Yes, installing those particular ones on an early offset car can just be inserted when you unscrew the cap but still require being bolted in at the bottom. The later offset cars 1987+ need the bolt because you have to cut the tops off. That said, they make Koni inserts that fit in the early housing that don’t require the bolt.
Thanks! We are edredas LLC. The shop itself doesn't really have a name since we don't have a need to put a sign up outside. We get most of our work from these youtube videos and everything is scheduled online so I try to keep the shop out of the public eye. Not only for privacy but to keep people from stopping in wanting their Fords repaired... which sometimes happens regardless. Thanks again!
I'm not aware of any alternatives for new hardware. If you're willing to go with used parts there's a lot of breakers around that should have what you need. Many times the hardware we are using has been bead blasted and re-plated. It's very seldom, unless its a spring, cotter pin, or something damaged do we source brand new parts. Good luck!
@@edredas Was that new dash a perfect fit? I thought I remember reading about the werk924 dash and there was an issue with it being a little too narrow resulting in a noticeable gap on one side where it meets the A pillar.
The '88 924S with the same gearing but narrower body and wheels with 2 more hp can do 221 Km/h. So my guess is that the euro cars would probably top out around 215 Km/h.
@@edredas u're reading US specs. transmission specs out at 255, 238 is the modestly estimated top speed in the EU manual - w. higher comp/octane w.o. cat and different progr. I've seen it in black and white, dunno if can find it again though. Will send u a link if I do. Let me into the group will ya
@@happyfox711 I know the turbos can go that fast but I don't think a base euro 944 could. I mean despite people on youtube with new Jetta's that take 11 seconds to hit 62 calling the 944 slow, its quite fast but shouldn't be anywhere near that fast. I've put the fastest N/A cars side by side with slow turbo cars and the turbo still massacres it...

Beautiful job, and what a lucky owner to have such a well-restored 944
Thanks!

Those re plated parts mounted back on look sensational, what a magnificent restoration , can’t wait to see it back from paint.
Thanks! If you're interested in a sneak preview of how the car sits now, here's some pictures from my instagram. instagram.com/p/CRSVmYVlIdG/
It's got that definitive 944 engine "whine". The only car that sounds like that. 😁
True, It's the belts riffles, love it!

Excellent work, I wish I had you worked on my 951 when I had it several years ago.
That's a bit more than my turbo needs lol, but that is going to be a real gem when it's finished.

The owner of the car ordered it from werk924.com in Germany. Thanks!

What a wonderful job you’ve done. Where did you get the boot (part number?) for the headlight motor electrical connection? Mine is horribly torn.

Hi I was wondering what hub would fit on my 1977 porche 924 non turbo
Excellent job, quick question. When you rebuilt the engine did you replace the pistons/sleeves?
There aren’t any sleeves in this block and it actually looked great. So I used sunnen paste to hone them. Also the pistons looked good so I just replaced the rings. 👍

where can one find brake hardware kits (pins, springs, etc.) for less than $80?

How much does it usually cost for all the re-plating you do on these vehicles?
We can usually re-plate every nut, bolt, and part on the entire car for about $300-400. To do just the engine it's about $200.
Hi Brent, u don't have an old (83 M456) koni cartridge on ur shelves somewhere. I just need one...

Where did you find a new dashboard?
Check out werk924.com. The owner ordered the dashboard from there and they have lot of other hard to find items as well!
