Here is a thing this short doesn't mention: Aztec's justice decisions were also going on, depending on the social status you had. For example, a macehualli (commoner) would be punished for drunkenness but given a second chance, because they were regarded as more poorly educated and clueless to begin with. On the other hand, a tecuhtli (nobleman) would get right away the full extent of the penalty, because they were supposed to be impeccable role models to the society. The Aztec civilization had a very severe viewpoint on how one must repay lack of dignity. The more dignity your rank had, the harsher your sentence got.

Plenty of premodern societies did not have prisons as modern prison systems can only be run by modern industrial societies who had the resources and organizational infrastructur for them.
In premodern times, the only time you get to see a cell is if you were 1) held for ransom or 2) awaited trial after being accused of a crime. Afterwards you got sentenced and punishments were either fines, enslavement, exile, corporal punishment, and assorted forms of execution.

boy, do you realize that there were people over 70 years old in the Aztec empire while in medieval Europe you had to reproduce before the age of 30 or you would not leave a legacy?
Edit: you should really calm down, I didn't meant to say europeans were less advanced or smt, they had metal, yeah, but aztecs also had they own armery, in fact, the only reason why they got conquered was bc the other pre-Hispanic towns hated aztecs as well and they helped the Spanish to fight against them, In addition to the diseases and plagues that the conquerors brought, of course.
Edit2: I also want to say that The Spanish were also fierce conquerors and I am not really proud of having so much warrior blood (both Spanish and Aztec) they were simply other times and what was then the normal now we see it as barbaric

When we saw all those cities and villages built on water; and the other great towns on dry land, and that straight and level causeway leading to Mexico, we were astounded. These great towns and shrines and buildings rising from the water, all made of stone, seemed like an enchanted vision from the tale of Amadis. Indeed some of our soldiers asked whether it was not all a dream. It is not surprising therefore that I should write in this vein. It was all so wonderful that I do not know how to describe this first glimpse of things never heard or, never seen, and never dreamed of before.

When in reality, just as this video showcases, the Aztecs were such assholes to everyone when the Spanish arrived, every single surrounding village went and said “you’re gonna lead us to kill the Aztecs and then rule us. You can’t be any worse than those assholes, and we won’t give you any choice”.
