    LYRICSSS
    It’s 7.15, and Richard and
    Betty are waking up soon
The dog’s on the bed, newspaper unread, the sun fades the moon
    no one is waiting
    or tapping their foot
    Betty and Richard are sleeping
    And the world doesn’t look
It’s Friday, they both strip the bed, laundry day of the week
taking it slow, the wind softly blows through the sweet smelling sheets
    no one is waiting
    rich takes her hand
    He spins Betty carefully
    the slowest slow dance
    And he says
    I think we hacked it
    Maybe we cracked it
No there’s no where that I’d rather be
    My wife is a beauty
    My life is a doozy
    I’ve been smiling since ‘73
    thank god
    We said
    Goodbye to the city
You’ll never take me there alive
    One car
    No phone
    might not be as pretty
But what else would I need when you're by my side
They go to the diner, and Betty picks salad to leave room for pie
Her face lights up as she chews
and there’s no better view for Richard tonight
    No one is waiting
    the pie is so sweet
The kids left ten years ago, and Diner Day is the best day of the week
    betty says
    I think we hacked it
    Maybe we cracked it
No there’s no where that I’d rather be
    I still feel it all
Since we kissed in the fall
    After dancing in ‘73
    thank god
    We said
    Goodbye to the city
You’ll never take me there alive
    One car
    No phone
    might not be as pretty
but my god I feel good with just you by my side
    Make a home in nowhere
    Make a home with me
(Thank god we said goodbye to the city)
    Make a home in nowhere
    (I still feel it all
Since we kissed in the fall)
    Make a home with me
(one car, no phone, might not be as pretty)
Richard and Betty turn out the light
    The day is now done
    Holding hands as they sleep
    They end the long week
    Ready for another one

Somehow this song gives me a vivid image of a 70 year old couple with loads of grandkids looking down on on their loved ones and reminiscing over how it used to be as their names are said the final time. They lived life together and it’s somehow fitting that they are forgotten together. But maybe just maybe a girl with a guitar will remind the world that sometimes the most simple people live the most beautiful lives.

why am i SOBBING dodie why!?!
that repeated lyric "no one is waiting or tapping their foot" in the very beginning made me let out a big held-inside sob; it might sound silly but i've struggled so much with being on time to places (due to severe adhd) and people being ashamed of/angry at me because of it... i so badly want a safe, sweet life where the pressure to be good and perfect has faded, and i can just be loved as i am and happy, and take as much as time as i need.
this song makes that sound possible. thank you dearest dodie

What a beautiful song, thanks Dodie! I think a lot of us would be lucky to have a life like RIchard and Betty :)
Life often has a way of sending curveballs your way, with work, health, money, family and other stresses too often distracting you from what is special, so it's important to remember that the so-called mundane things in life can sometimes ground us and allow us to appreciate the most important things in life and each other.
For me this could be laughing with my wife like kids about something and nothing, a long hug at the end of a tough day, listening to our 4 year old daughter sing to herself about anything (pure heaven to me) or just enjoying a bike ride, smelling the the morning air as you cycle along the canal to work, passing behind the bakery; the smell of freshly baked bread mixed with the freshly cut grass along the canal, just stopping to enjoy a coffee and a fresh roll. Don't do it now as I've changed jobs and location, but that was the highlight of my day for years :)
Diner day is something that we're definitely going to do though. :)

Yesterday i celebrated being 6 months into the relationship i thought i'd never find. We share a home, dreams, highs and lows. I am loved for who i truly am, i feel taken care of, listened to and supported through it all. I am happy beyond what i believed i could ever be. This song made me cry because it feels like it's narrating our life together, it encapsulates the wonderful feelings I'm experiencing and the future i not only dream of, but see becoming truer every day.

I like how the performance is raw: mic and phone’s are visible, the lyrics are hand written, electric socket in frame. All ver nice.

    “I think we hacked it
    Maybe we cracked it
No there’s no where that I’d rather be”
makes my heart feel so full.
    and then WOW
    “I still feel it all
Since we kissed in the fall
    After dancing in ‘73
.... my god I feel good with just you by my side”
    aaaaaah
    “Make a home in nowhere
    Make a home with me
(Thank god we said goodbye to the city)”
feels like an extended metaphor-like on another plane, astrologically, could exist :,,,)
so so grateful to witness this and may very very much be watching your personal explanation video:,)

Also I want to see what Betty and Richard think about this song!

I've never heard a song for the first time that left me like this, like feeling the nostalgia of a well-worn, well-loved song that I've heard all my life. Just this sweet, acoustic storytelling that evokes the emotion of classic songs shared across generations. This is the kind of song, kind of music, kind of artistic empathy that stands the test of time and trends.

Something missing from a lot of modern music is the storytelling component and I think this is where Dodie absolutely kills it! Each song is like an adventure on it's own that just feels so complete!
