In my best Scottish accent: "You're a MAD MAN!!? HA HA HAA HAA HA HA HA" @4:29 --> "Yeah just do it. Dump it all in..." My Baci (Polish/Grandmother) saved bacon grease for cooking everything during the great depression and in my youth in the 70's. She was one of 13 siblings who canned, made their own cloths, gardened, butcher animals for made homemade kielbasa, sang and played instruments for family entertainment during the great depression. There was also Blackberry being made. (Poles will know) Sadly all 13 are gone now. But they were, without a doubt, the ORIGINAL GOAT! RIP God Bless Lena 1913-2004. Cheers Randy! Hmmm Bacon...
Ok, i just did the 2022 brewers survey today. Wish i woulda waited now. Cause there was a question for "strangest or wierdest recipe". This would have gotten entered.
I've heard of this before, but never tried it as I wasn't sure how to handle the grease so that I wouldn't get an oil slick. Can't wait to try this now. My mouth was watering as you tasted that Old Fashioned. I always love your enthusiasm when you try something new.
Great job my friend !! I started investigating fat washing spirits back when that was " The Thing " to do in bar tending. It seemed like vodka was the spirit of choice back then. I am so glad to see you doing it with your bourbon as I think that is a better choice or at least it is for me. You have me wondering how the bacon flavor would stand up to an Islay scotch with the smokey and peaty complexities they are know for. Remind me in the spring and I will send you some good old NH. maple syrup to make your cocktails with. Nothing better than fresh syrup just out of the evaporator. Take care Randy. --den
Awe man, you did that before I got to it. I was going to call it Maple Bacon Breakfast Burbon lol. Another way to get that bacon flavor that I was going to try is to smoke the grain with Applewood. I stole that idea from a local brewery who made Maple Bacon Breakfast Ale. They smoked their hops, and it did taste like bacon.
Hi Randy- I tried this but very little bacon flavor came through. How crispy did you cook the bacon? Wondering if the bacon has to be more crispy for the burnt bacon flavor to carry through?
@@stillworksandbrewing turned out fairly well thank you,i did a kale wash, didn't wanna do anything to complicated as I'd not done it before, made two small mistakes, learnt alot and have more confidence moving forward, thinking I'll try a potato wash next
Now that is living life in the best way possible. Bacon and Bourbon ftw!
cheers
And now I'm hungry for bacon & bourbon...
The two goes together Cheers
