- Alice Lake is probably the most popular backpacking area in the Sawtooth Range of Idaho. While backpackers usually hike Alice Lake as a loop with Imogene and Toxaway Lakes, it can be a great 12-13 mile out and back day hike. While this trail can be long it only gains around 1800 feet in elevation. The lake itself is a fairly big alpine lake with multiple solitude outlets for swimming and fishing. Start early from Petite Lake as the campground can be very busy and hard to find a parking spot. Once you get out of the woods and start to gain altitude to Alice Lake, you quickly realize why this trail is so popular. Stanley is just 20-25 minutes north of the trailhead with Ketchum and Sun Valley to the south.

Loved the Video! I'll be hitting the Alice Lake Toxaway Loop around the 16th of August, can't wait. I plan on milking the Loop into a 3 Night Adventure with plenty of "Nature & Photography"!
Way to take your time on that trail 👍🏼 that area is one of my all time favorites! We were back in the Sawtooth area in late June and there was a ton of snow still, August should be perfect 👍🏼

I love that goal💪🏼 I’m actually in Sun Valley right now an hour south of Stanley 😁. That video was the first week of August a couple years ago. The Sawtooths had a couple snow storms in May and lower than normal spring temps so you should have some gorgeous snow capped mountains still in July 👍🏼😁. Sawtooths are incredible my friend!

TONS of snow out west from this past winter. Peaks will be tough to get to until August unless you want to go full alpinist 👍🏻. Otherwise, I'd wait till at least July so the trails will be dry enough to enjoy. I saw the other day that Redfish Lake still has ice floating on it. That would mean that lakes higher up are probably still covered. With all the snow this year the waterfalls will be off the charts! This will be an amazing summer to visit. The peaks will be snow capped for a long while. Enjoy your trip! Let me know if you have any other questions 😁
Hey, Matt, another question for you. I'm trying to plan my days for the week and was wondering which hike you'd recommend more....Alice Lake or Sawtooth Lake? I have my other days planned but not sure I can squeeze both of them in. Thanks!
Both are busy trails so definitely start early. I liked Alice Lake better but if you mix in Alpine Peak with Sawtooth Lake than go for Sawtooth. So basically Alice Lake if you don’t add Alpine Peak onto the Sawtooth hike. Hopefully that helps Andrew. Let me know if you need help deciding anything else my friend😁👍🏼

@@Drew-lu4vn I think so Drew 👍🏼 I believe it was around 6 miles to the lake from Pettit Lake with under 2,000 feet of elevation gain. The trail itself was gorgeous and the payoff is one of the best lakes I’ve ever seen. A long day but well worth the effort 👍🏼

Flew into Boise, Stanley is about 2 hours east, beautiful drive. I actually do jump into most of those lakes😂, I’ll have to GoPro my proof this summer🤣👍🏼
