Im an old sad nostalgic man... remembering my old darkroom, using TRI-X and Multigrade every day all day.... I loved it..
When it comes to his work, it's 100% quality stuff, I'm hugely impressed.
Back in the day Tri X was my "go too." Today I'm using digital but this brings me back (although I wasn't doing street portrait photography as a young man).
It is a great pleasure to look at Simon Murphy's street portraits. OK, I'm not sure whether I would personally say street portraits, or just portraits, because some of them look arranged to me. However, that doesn't affect the quality at all! Their inspiration and their fascination can be felt even here in front of the screen. Best regards, Dirk (DT-Classics)
Thanks so much for watching and definitely check out his approach on his channel. He prefers blank spaces even when on the streets. Very much more about the people than the environment most of the time. But that does set him apart also as a street portrait photographer.
I agree wholeheartedly, Simon's work is incredible. How lovely to see artists being inspired by one another in this way. I know this exhibition really did ignite something in you. Great recommendation Paul, I have also subscribed to his channel. Thanks for this wonderful video! ❤
Hi Paul, thank you so much for this video. There is a very fun part at 3:23 in the upper left corner. I thought it was a small elephant or some other mysterious animal. But it was your cat's tail. Greatings from the snowy north of Germany.
Ha haaaa! Yeah I saw that!!! I decided to just leave it in
@@paulreidphotography That was a good decision 😉
I went to Simon's exhibition on day one. If anyone is wondering whether it's worth printing your photos, if you've seen Simon's prints and the online versions it's clear to me that prints are far superior.
It's a fabulous exhibition. I left feeling simultaneously enthusiastic about photography and thinking I'm wasting my time.
Truly beautiful work.
Absolutely!!!! I’ve felt funny ever since!
Great to know this fantastic photographer, Thank Paul again!!
So glad you enjoyed this
Well done. Enjoyed it very much. Now, I'm going to check out Simon's page. If you will excuse me.
Thanks for the tip Paul! Absolutely beautiful portrait work!
Ah, the famous Glasgow alley, I love that spot :)
I love it too
Excellent video, Paul. Never heard of Simon before learning about him here on your channel. His photos are fantastic and inspiring, indeed. Makes me want to get out there to photograph some great portraits, rather than my usual New Topographic, Urban and Rural, American backroads type work. The work of his you posted here looked so much like medium format (aspect ratio, tonal gradation, etc.) that I was happy to discover that was exactly what it was when I popped over to his channel. Going to follow him straight away there, so thank you, Paul! Best wishes -- Jacques.
EDIT: Watched all of Simon's videos after first commenting here and was disappointed to see he stopped posting videos about 6 months ago. I do hope he posts more as I find them quite compelling.
Fantastic!!! It’s certainly put more fire in my belly! I hope he continues that series on UA-cam too
Thanks for sharing!
truly great work, inspirational, thx for doing this video.....Scotland is becoming one of the great centres for amazing foto artists !!! zen billings in canada.
Very interesting video, Paul. I've binge-watched Simon's videos and thoroughly enjoyed the, Glasgow's a bit of an expensive schlep from where I live but it's great to see such a talented guy getting plaudits.
Thanks so much!! So glad you enjoyed the video!
For those who, like myself, can’t get to the Simon Murphy exhibition, his work was featured in Black+White Photography magazine #282. Great portraits.
Fantastic!!! Thanks for putting that out there
Very inspiring video and I will also visit the exhibition. Thanks Paul and say hello to the cat in the background of the video 🙂
Ha haaaa! The cat always has to make an appearance
Stunning portraits. Very inspiring. Thanks for this. Now subcribed to both you and him!
Amazing!! Thanks so much!
Now I know Simon Murphy, thanks
Brilliant
Great video Paul must see the exhibition in Glagow when will it end? Sure it will be well worth a visit
Thanks so much! It’s awesome
5:45 is my friend called Lee. A good photographer in his own right. I’ve just shared this with him.
I've been reading a lot of Black+white magazine and he has the cover for no. 282 @ 5:46 been roaming the streets snappin photos and life's repetition comes out. It really turns surreal at some point
Amazing!!! Yeah I saw he had the cover maybe twice as well
4:05 oh man been working on this project of portraits of dogs and their owners and man I can't seem to figure out how to end it...been going for almost two years now!
Fantastic!!! Great project to be doing
Your girlfriend undoubtedly helps make you an even better photographer. Kudos!
So kind, thank you! 😊
She does indeed!!
You clearly talk too much
Ha haaaaaaaaaaaaa! Thanks for your positivity!
