When I was writing a profile on the Tabasco company for one of my college-level business textbooks years ago, I called the company to request some background information. I almost fell off my chair when Paul McIlhenny himself answered the phone. We had a great conversation. What a terrific memory!

my mother used it when i was a kid, it was and is undeniably the same as it was 30-40 years ago. The logo, the bottle, the brand is something I always need, like salt and pepper. I pour Tabasco into almost everything. I also always have all the different flavors of Tabasco at home. The original is still the best. Yes, and my daughter (19) was the first to set up the Tabasco bottles in the empty kitchen of her new household and said "now it feels like home"💗🤭 generation to generation.. The bridge is cool but it wasn’t born so much to prevent spills, but to make the process more efficient. If there were a valve at the end of the hose that the filler (employee) had to shut off, move to an empty barrel, turn on, fill barrel, repeat 100 times. It would not only take ~10% longer, he would also have to shut off the pump each time or have an accumulator (pressure) tank at the source, he would have extra bulk (and weight) at the end of the hose making the job harder AND he would likely end up with carpal tunnel syndrome!

I wrote them and gave them some of my own field recipes, and they sent me back a really nice cookbook, chef apron, hat, and a whole bunch of hot sauce. 3 years later, I opened an MRE (transition from c-rats) and boom. There was a little bottle of Tabasco. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. My (ex) brother in law introduced me to Tabasco sauce some 30 years ago and I have been hooked since. A good part of the charm is the knowledge of the ageing process and the family's close involvement in the day to day running. It would have been easy for the family to sell out to some huge food conglomerate like so many other old family businesses. Glad they held on during trying times and kept the good work going. For me, just looking at the bottle on my table is a comfort. I Love you tabasco.
A tip of the hat to the anchor for giving me the insider view without behaving like a know it all. Good work mate.

Its something very comforting about the level of craftsmanship, pride and consistency on display in this video. No big secrets, every step of the process is simple in by itself, but it comes together in a whole only if everyone is staying on their game every day. Nice!

When I was in Vietnam during the LBJ fiasco which killed 58000 men, you could send your address to this wonderful company and they would send you back a round container with a free bottle of their sauce PLUS an illustrated comic book version of recipes where you could mix different ingredients from the C-Rations and create an interesting variation which, naturally required Tabasco sauce.

Reasonable for what it is...but not very competitive compared to most “Louisiana” sauces like franks, Louisianan etc. Still no comparison though imo, so worth the higher cost. We use Tabasco typically for cooking and marinades...while thicker sauces like franks or Texas Pete is good for things like buffalo wings and dipping.
