Softex (Papermaking Company of Greece) was one of the largest papermaking industries in Greece. It was founded in 1936 and had its headquarters in Botanikos, Athens. Softex was one of the most important Greek companies in its industry, with a high impact both in the domestic and international markets. However, the company faced financial difficulties, mainly due to the economic crisis, and in 2015 it was forced to cease operations after a fire destroyed the factory. The bankruptcy and closure of Softex left many workers without jobs and marked the end of an era for the Greek paper industry. The area of Votanikos, where the Softex factory was located, is today a point of interest for new development projects, such as the Votanikos Business Park, which aspires to capitalize on the space with new investments and revitalize the area. The works amounting to 160 million euros, for the conversion into a "green complex" of the former Softex property in Botaniko, is in progress. Parts of the former industrial facilities have already been demolished and the 3 buildings under renovation remain, in which projects are being carried out to strengthen the supporting organization. In total, Votanikos Business Park will have 10 office buildings, but retail spaces will also be developed, as well as 15 hectares of green space. Dimand, through its subsidiary IQ Athens, has purchased the facilities of the Athenian Paperworks in the area of Botanikos. The total price was 14 million. euro. The complex will be bioclimatic and the installation of photovoltaics will contribute to the electricity supply needs. The new Votanikos Business Park will be the first and only integrated office complex in the Votanikos area. The challenge in the whole project is to attract businesses that will see the area as a new urban zone that will emerge from obscurity as a modern urban space. The Botanical area has many advantages. There is a Metro station, KTEL buses are planned to move, the Double Redevelopment is being completed and it is at a strategic point in the city. It is flanked by the major axes of Kifissos, Ieras Odos, Piraeus and Petros Ralli, it is very close to the center of Athens and relatively close to the beach front of Faliros.

Καλημέρα είναι λυπηρό να βλέπουμε μια ιστορική εταιρεία να κλείνει, από την άλλη μπράβο που θα αναπλάσουν τον χώρο!!! Ευχαριστούμε Τάσο για την παρουσίαση!!!
Ειναι πολυ λυπηρο να βλεπεις μια κραταια και ιστορικη βιομηχανια της χωρας να κλεινει και να μενουν στον δρομο 2.500 οικογενειες, συν οι προμηθευτες της, περιπου 10.000 ατομα χωρις δουλεια, μονον και μονον για να περασει στα χερια των «« σωστων»» επενδυτων, ο χωρος που αποτελειται απο ολοκληρα οικοδομικα τετραγωνα! Και η μεγαλη πυρκαγια που κατεκαυσε την επεξεργασια χαρτιου, δεν εγινε το 2015, απλα τοτε την αποτελειωσαν! Κα ειναι επισης πολυ λυπηρο που υπαρχουν Ελληνες με ανυπαρκτη μνημη η με μνημη χρυσοψαρου, που δεν αντιλαμβανονται οτι η αποβιομηχανοποιηση της χωρας, μας εφθασε εδω που ειμαστε σημερα! Φατε λοιπον « ματια ψαρια και κοιλια περιδρομο» και χαρειτε με το ξεπουλημα του χωρου, γιατι αυτος ηταν ενας απο τους λογους που την κατεστρεψαν!
