I do not think there is a singer who brings this much emotion, passion and effort into his art as much as Hogarth does. Fish was amazing, but I feel Hogarth has taken his art to another level. It certainly helps to be surrounded by incredible musicians. I never get tired of listening to Marillion.
"A bridge is not a high place, the 52nd floor, Icarus would know, a mountain isn't far to fall when you've fallen from the moon." And now I burst into tears
Best band ever. Originality, compositions, musicianship, emotional delivery - no other band comes close. They are consistently amazing live and have had no personnel changes since 1989.
First saw Marillion in 1983, seen them live 200+ times now, and on top of that seen Steve Hogarth solo shows and Steve Rothery band shows too! Not once have I been disappointed! They are the best live band I have ever seen, I’m 70 next year, I’ve seen Genesis, Zeppelin, Bowie, Pink Floyd, and countless other bands too, but Marillion deliver something above and beyond every time they are on stage, electrifying, emotional, epic and completely in touch with the fans in an almost psychic way, they have something very special to give, every show is a special event!
Jim there was a moment when you went yea perfect , when your a member of the family after listening to this hundreds of times at that moment we cry , I just love your reaction the tears will come they will get you x
One of THE most epic songs out there. It’s truly stunning. Gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it. Steve Hogarth is in his mid sixties now and still sings as well as he did years ago. His pipes haven’t failed him yet 😆
Love this track and thanks for listening Jim - there is a moment in this song that never fails to move me to tears - and it gets to you too! Its the wonderful emotive guitar solo as the song reaches its crescendo...6:35 in your vid....you really nailed it when you say "Perfect". Its my favourite moment in music.
Yehes! Taken from Marillion's one of the best, a concept album, Brave. Which is bloody brilliant! Great joice, Jim! We want more! We want more! We want more!
What more can be said about that masterpiece... A majestic powerful mini-suite which never fails to bring tears to my eyes, cause though it deals with dark themes, it's filled with compassion and humanity.
@@Dudemon-1 he certainly is still using his voice teally well FEAR when he sings Fuck Everone And Run in the New Kings suite still packs a punch! I love his voice it is powerful and emotional and h himself is a great guy always striving for new things. The day they stop doing that is when they should stop. I.have lived since 1985. And when h took over I liked them even more because they were acting as a unit which was dearly lacking in Live At Lorely ( IMHO)
That big tent = the flagship Marillion Weekend tent in the Netherlands. A complete holiday parc is rented out and filled with Marillion fans from all over The World for a long weekend filled with 3 evening long Marillion concerts (and all with entire different setlists) plus some very good support acts (well, most of the time).
I saw them play Brave in Cologne, Germany 1994. It was my first and only time at one of their concerts, and it was fantastic! Steve Hogarth was climbing all over the scenery above the stage, he was also splendid in ladies clothing, true that. :)
I'm 63 years old I have seen a lot of shows and like a lot of different bands these days always bring me to tears. Whether it's this singer or fish it never fails .
Watching this back again after all your marillion reviews. The look on your face of what have I missed and seeing you fall for marillion......glad you re engaged with them 👍😊
So cool to share some Marillion with people after all these years. From the H era, Living the Big Lie, Working Town, 100 Nights... so many great songs.
Welcome to Marillion. I think you've started with two real high points, but there is much in the band's catalogue that's equally satisfying. I think the moment here when Steve Rothery's solo comes in on Falling From the Moon is one of the most sublime moments in music. For a contrast next time maybe try The Space or King or Out of this World.
Simple is the best band in the History of Progresive music and more That is I cry everytime what play this song ....athankou for this video broo.......😎😎
Hi Jim. Loving watching you discover my favourite band. You should try This Strange Engine next, the 2nd guitar solo will slay you, or The Invisible Man. You've got some amazing music ahead of you, my man
Dunno but one of my favourites is White Paper off of FEAR.. I's like an constant in my hesd.. god knows why. But my ultimate song is the one you just heard... someone said about his not so good I mean WTF... you try doing 3 gigs over 3 nights.. out in Q&A's.. photo ops etc.
Every time I hear this song i think to myself ..Steve Hogarth is a genius..and very rarely does geniuses get recognition! Im glad to admit i recognise his talent, sensitivity, beauty of creation lyricism and so on!
Great choice from a great album. Jim, the instructions on the liner notes suggest you to "Play it loud, with the lights off." and I can tell you that listening to this album in full, exactly like that, is a spiritual experience. Not something you could really do a reaction video to, of course. ;)
IMHO, the reason people like (LOVE) Marillion is that they are not in any way out just recycling their old stuff, for old fans, and for bored musicians... They consistently create new music, putting out a new album every two years or so, and while some of it is lighter, the vast majority of it is beyond deep. Of all the bands I've loved in my life, these guys stay at the top BECAUSE of the lyrics, in which you can find real life stories, written really well. (Partial bit of the long article...) "Out of This World" about the loss of the Bluebird (From the Times: "'Bluebird' Donald Malcolm Campbell (1921-1967) set water speed records of 202.32 mph (1955), 276.33 (1964). In a jet-powered automobile, he set the land speed record of 403.1 mph (1964)...Campbell was said to be obsessed with regaining the water speed record after losing it in 1965. In 1967, against the advice of his racing team, Campbell took Bluebird II out on to Coniston Water in the Cumbrian Lake District... Although only slight, the waves on the lake were sufficient to flip his craft into the air, killing Campbell. In March 2001, Bluebird was raised from the murky waters. A Times article dated Friday March 9th 2001, reveals that Marillion played a key part in the recovery... Found here: " marillionations.blogspot.com/1995/06/out-of-this-world.html " ) Worth a read through one of these days. And this is only one, but one of their all time most beautiful all said.
You got me listening to them........ His theatrics are ? :-) But I love his voice! I loved the guitar solo. I loved the song............. Thanks for sharing again!
H literally put everything into his concerts! He fell off the stage right in front of me and just carried on singing as a security guy helped him up@@!
There's alot more where that came from.Marillion was meant to be a live band. The usually bring out an album then just go touring and their convention weekends. If you ever venture deeper in look up it being live. Also if yiu go on Marillion.com they even give out a free CD to see how you feel about their music.
You should listen to much more.. it's from PZ centre parks in Netherlands a 3 gig weekend 2013. Glad you found them.. Get Brave the album as it's kinda all one story!!
Lovely song - it’s the climactic song from the Brave album. Steve Rothery is possibly my favorite guitarist - phrasing over speed, and very emotional. BTW, a new Riverside album is coming at the end of September, and there new single is on UA-cam now.
Nice one Jim. Brave is an album with a story (there was a movie of the album too. ) Highly recommend you listen to the album from start to finish. The story it follows is powerful, emotional, heartbreaking and ultimately uplifting. There is no better band on the planet in my opinion and the guys do so much for us fans. 💜
check out the story behind it, a very undervalued band in mainstream but thats ok because they loved by a very loyal group of appreciative followers! and its a mutual love of their music that keep the band and fans connected! :O)
Nice to see how much you're enjoying this music. I've had the same kind of revelation about two years ago, and there's a lot to discover haha. I would recommend you to listen to Ocean Cloud, from the album Marbles, and to new album (2016) F.E.A.R., particularly two songs - El Dorado and The New Kings. But again - there's so much more than just that. Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you for yet another review of Marillion and their beautiful music Jim. Please review Estonia (live version) when it takes your fancy. Be careful though, it may break your heart 👍

Elbrus "Break the Machine" is a not known song by a not known band. You probably wont listen to the song, but of you do.. it is a blues/rock/stoner metal just mixed into this beautiful piece of music.
Welcome to Marillion Jim. More people need to relook at this incredible band and get past that pop one hit 1980's wonder we all know to love to hate. The early days were great but Fish is long gone. Onto bigger and better things. They are amazing and more people need to figure that out.
JIM, you obviously need something longer, even though the crowd reaction for "GO" at the Albert Hall is great. I would still say This Strange engine or Ocean Cloud. Thanks for the mention. I am travelling from NZ next April for the convention, that's how mad we are us Marillion Anoraks!
Highly recommend the Album Marbles. It's an absolute masterpiece. If you get the deluxe version you get the double cd version with an 18 minute track of a song called Ocean Cloud on it.The album has a mixture of pop/rock ,rock, progressive material and it's the album Neverland came off.Trust me you will love it to bits.
If you don't get goosebumps from this, there is no hope for you :). There is a very clear and deep story here and Steve and the band bring it to life and it is how the most wonderful thing that there is in life, when treated with disrespect, can bring so much pain and destruction.........
Hey Jim! another cool one :) I have thought about something that i didnt talk to you about. Id like to see you reacting to the Band "Skyclad" With their Song "Words fail me". Its a Band that is not that well know but it basically created 2 genres that are really popular in rock and metal. Im not gonna tell which ones tho ;) Just that a lot fo people should appreciate it more.. but thats the case with many awesome bands. The song is from their newest Album and i finally..this year... had the chance to see them live and talk to them for hours. That was one of my biggest dreams cause i know them since i was a little boy and nobody else i met knew them at all.. i was so suprised when they showed up on my favourite festival. They went through much and they were really really great live and yes.. they played that song Live and it was daaamn awesome. It also has a pretty strong message :D I know i recommend quite a few songs but i usually dont ask for a reaction video directly, usually i just exchange awesome music with you ..but this one is too special ^^ Have a nice weekend! (had to edit that. stupid me typed in the wrong song name o.o)
Marillion are the hidden gem of rock music. Probably the most under rated band in history.
Not probably. Definitely.
💯 agree
I do not think there is a singer who brings this much emotion, passion and effort into his art as much as Hogarth does. Fish was amazing, but I feel Hogarth has taken his art to another level. It certainly helps to be surrounded by incredible musicians. I never get tired of listening to Marillion.
Marillion is one of few bands that actually move people, and change lives.
"A bridge is not a high place, the 52nd floor, Icarus would know, a mountain isn't far to fall when you've fallen from the moon." And now I burst into tears
Me too buddy, me too
That makes us 3 🥲🥲
And another makes 4😢
Best band ever. Originality, compositions, musicianship, emotional delivery - no other band comes close. They are consistently amazing live and have had no personnel changes since 1989.
Yet another Marillion masterpiece. There’s just SO many to choose from
The entangled melodies of Mark Kelly (keyboards) and Steve Rothery (guitar) on the last solo are just to die for
That riff from Steve Rothery’s guitar. It rips my heart clean out. Best guitar solo ever anywhere by anyone ❤❤❤
this is one of my favourite songs ever
welcome on board sir , Marillion the best kept secret .
I had the privilege of being at the Marillion Weekend in Lisbon this year, and I was absolutely fabulous. I love these guys.

Hi John, it was good, and that guitar solo starting at that exact moment.... perfection!

Made me cry in first note! Boy I’m so weak!
best band , seen them numerous times over the years and brave the album a classic

Agreed, that same moment gets me every time. Saw them in Dallas last year and Rothery had me crying like a babe.
Marillion Can break your Heart with splendor
Yehes! Taken from Marillion's one of the best, a concept album, Brave. Which is bloody brilliant! Great joice, Jim! We want more! We want more! We want more!
And, please, react to Marillion's Invisible man!
He needs to buy that whole live. Brave. Live is them being perfection.
King is amazing!
Jim please.. do Gaza!
Fallin’ From The Moon is, for me, the emotional heart of this album. I’ve been moved by it right from the first listen all those years ago.
What more can be said about that masterpiece... A majestic powerful mini-suite which never fails to bring tears to my eyes, cause though it deals with dark themes, it's filled with compassion and humanity.
Omg
What a great voice.
Imagine what it used to be like before it went downhill!

steftones1 -- I mean that Hogarth's voice used to be much better. He's now having to drop octaves and cover up.

Jim the band are Steve Hogarth lead vocals, Steven Rothery lead guitar, Peter Trewavas bass guitar, Ian Mosley drums, Mark Kelly keyboards
