it was the best ending. A true warrior would win the war without spilling blood in war. He just sacrificed all the neccessary his people. A clever and smart toranaga always knew his banner wouldn't be lawful, this was the best strategy and tactics ever made. all the characters got a proper closure. the best show of decade for me

14 mins remaining and I was like “how will there be time for an epic battle ending?” Some may be disappointed by the ending but it was truly the perfect ending for such a clever and nuanced show. It would’ve been obvious to have a big war but Toranaga outwitted and outclassed them all to bring peace to Japan. Maybe the ending is too philosophical and simple for some but it is befitting. In the overall tone and story of the show. I’m so glad I couldn’t recall the ending from reading the book in the late 80s as 9 year old!
This is one of the most perfect shows ever made for the writing, acting, cinematography and all the minute details which felt like you were transported there.
The actors gave such heart wrenching performances especially in the final 2 episodes I hope they get the recognition they deserve and win Emmys, Golden Globes and more! ❤
Enjoyed your reaction vid btw. Thank you. 🙏

It’s fiction but based on history. It’s hard to get over that fact. That this show decided to use fiction with history and they managed to make the climax more boring that what really happened. That’s the issue for me. In history mutilpe battles and sieges happened before the major battle, Toronaga simply isn’t that guy this show portrayed. An all knowing genius that’s 10 steps ahead. No homie got caught couple times. Js. This show gives him an aura of untouchability but in reality he was like any other man very smart but brutal that would’ve been much more entertaining to watch. Not someone who simply can’t be touch or even challenged.

Ishido was right in episode 1. Toranaga was making moves to serve his own ambitions. He was a threat to the heir and the councel.
      Ishido the good guy.

“The Ogre lost the Leafless Branch the moment he crushed the Flower underfoot; sisters in the end, after all”
Yabushige and Toranaga smiling at each other in the end. He got the best end he could have gotten, realizing that whether he knew it or not, he has served his Lord Toranaga excellently.
Blackthorne kills a possible future version of himself-an old man, filled with regret-by mirroring Mariko (literally doing a ritual su!c!d3 like a woman [a blade through the heart] instead of seppuku [slicing his belly open] like a samurai would) in order to protect Ajiro: the first completely selfless thing he has done in the show.
They actually managed to tie up most, if not all, loose ends without sacrificing the pacing and the rhythm that they built up from the past 9 episodes.

Fire show. I wanted the big battle scene like everyone else but it turned out not to be necessary. Amazing amazing show there will be multiple Emmy category wins in it's future.

I'm glad they gave him his attempted seppuku, but i wish they did it as they did in the book. It was in the middle and was the hinge that Blackthorn's whole character arc changed. It's THE defining moment for him; how he views that Japanese, and the way the Japanese will come to view him.
I understand why they did it this way. Blackthorn wasn't the main character in this as he was in the novel, he was more or less our eyes on the ground. If they had done it as they did in the book it wouldn't have worked.
I'm actually glad they really pared back the romance aspect too. I found that it went way beyond cringe into gag territory. And we didn't have to suffer them speaking in Latin because it's the only language that they were sure no one would understand. In the book they went with middle-english translations, so the dialogue was all "from whence thou came on the morn..."
Speaking of Mariko: i hope some of these hack "modern"writers will take note of how she was written. She was intelligent, savvy, extremely competent and confident and could more than hold her own when it came to violence. Most of all she commanded respect, in spite of her family's fall from grace. And never once did i watch her accomplish something and think "oh come on! She could never do really do that." And she did all of this without being reduced to a characature of an laconic 80s male action star in a 110 pound women. This is how you do a strong female character if she needs to fight.

I loved this series. I do understand that modern audiences have gotten used to third act battle sequences due to GoT, Marvel/DC and this show was hinting at a climactic battle. I get why some folks may be disappointed.
This show thrived on its immersion, acting and writing. And Mariko was the show’s soul, which meant that episode 9 was really the peak. But the finale had great scenes and payoff from my perspective.

    The ending………Perfec…t.
    "Words speak for themselves"
    Toranaga: Any last words?
    Yabushige: 🤪hehe…hehehe
👏😂10/10 no need epic bloody battle. Use yr imagination!
If you want epic battle wait until Ghost Of Tsushima movie comes out!

So without the heir backing him it creates a chain of events. The council will see him as not holding the power like he had, they will all see that the heir has lost belief in him and they don’t want to go against the heir. With them all backing him he doesn’t have an army that can stand up to toranaga’s. If they do a season 2 then it could be explained in more detail or another way. But that’s how I viewed it

And the title is about dreams, and this dream or potential future, they stop showing it after he tries seppuku and says "f*ck it". That's where that potential future was removed.

Quite a plot twist, revealing that Toranaga was the villain everyone rooted for and Ishido was actually the "good guy".

  • @carrickmchwain2296

A show called "Shogun" that doesn't show him becoming shogun. Doesn't show you what happened to the main villain, Ishido. A show that ended like a limp wrist made you realize 10 episodes of literally nothingness.
Aijin and Mariko had no chemistry. If anything, I thought he and Fuji had better chemistry. Friendship between Aijin and Toranaga completely missing. Toranaga becoming less and less likeable and towards the end, Yabushige was much more likeable and kinda sad he died.
What is amazing how many emotard sheep in here still haven't figured out they got scammed with this ending. 9 episodes of big armies, talk of war, and then they deny you even a flashback of battle of Sekigahara.

    • @ALTEXTV
      @ALTEXTV  2 місяці тому

You missed the whole point of the show. He did become the shogun and ishido gets screwed by lady Ochiba. It’s all explained in the final episode and that was the point of toranagas arc. You are meant to not know that he pulled the strings to achieve total control

1980 version was decent except for the far too many irritating walking scenes. So much time wasted. The problem with bringing this book to the screen is that it misses out on the amazing internal dialogues throughout the book. Half the story is gone without them. The new version is very well done tho.

Not a great ending in my opinion. Still a really good show. Not quite the award winning show the glazers make it out to be.
For me it got a bit stuck on some unnecessary stuff between episode 3 and 6 that effected the overall development of the story

  • @thedon.32
    @thedon.32 2 місяці тому +1

In my opinion, this show was decent. The writing was decent. It was meh. If it wasn’t for this cast. This show would’ve fallen flat on its face even harder than what it did. Because no actor can save rushed writing. This show has so much material and they get to most of it but miss the majority of what shogun is based on, historically that is. Many seiges took place while this was all happening until the final battle, the same battle Toronaga in the show predicted where would take place. Predicted everything just to wrap up the show. That was so trash. Each episode before that painfully went through every detail, while ironically still missing a MAJORITY of what shogun was. 😂 good lord. You can definitely love this show but that’ll be the minority the simple fact is people don’t want to watch a climactic climb, with intense cliffhangers every episode for a build up to never happen.
