Hello Nadim! For a few years now I think about taking up playing the oud, but the fact that I am left handed makes me worry I will not be able to properly play it. Of course it wouldn't be impossible, all I have to is to position the instrument on my left side, so that i can pluck the strings with my left hand. But that leaves a problem: the order of the strings will pe reversed, meaning the lower strings will be placed on the lower part, not the upper, as it is the case with a normal oud. And so I ask you: is it possible to play complex melodies in such conditions, meaning do i have to sacrifice not being able to play some techniques? Or, is it easy (or at least even possible) to rearrange all the strings so that their order will be the same as a normal, right-oriented oud (thicker strings up, thinner strings down). Thank you !

You can order a left-handed Oud. Some people do play right-handed Ouds upside down with no problem.
