OTA, SlingTV, and Pluto TV - best $35 a month spent - and everything I care about on network TV. My Roku; PBS, UA-cam, ABC and NBC apps - all i can ever want to watch. This is the golden age of options in the tv world. Will never miss the old school cable contracts.

Often a golden age is followed by a dark age. Enjoy while you still can! There are plenty of business people out there who don't like the words "free" or "cheap" and won't stop until they find a way to cash in on what the public enjoys.

Only a matter of time until it turns into a cable model with contracts. Most streaming services operate at a loss and many have gone under...just like the old days of cable.

I don't think the commercials are overbearing for most Pluto channels, but I do think it varies depending on what "channel" you are watching. The music channels alone make Pluto worthy of being in your device's lineup of services. Finally, a word about commercials for streams in general : I wish developers would come up with "smart" ways to inject them. Generally, they can just cut in mid scene, mid sentence, or even mid spoken word. :) If they had a little bit of AI software to find natural pauses, scene transitions, etc. in content, it would greatly improve the experience.

I just watched "In Harm's Way" on Pluto TV the other day. Hadn't seen that movie for a number of years. I'm glad that you're putting out the word as I believe the content will only increase and improve over time. This is what digital television broadcast with all of its subchannel options should be like if people support that as well. I feel like I"m giving my cable provider a swift kick in the nuts every time I watch Pluto Tv and hopefully more sites like it. Here's hoping.

    Thanks! Really good information.
Thanks for sharing this kind of information.
We've had a smart TV for about 6 months. Unfortunately, the TV is smarter than we are, (we're both in our mid 70's), so until recently we have just watched broadcast television. Now we've ventured into the stuff that seemed so Intimdating. It took a couple of months to get used to a remote with NO NUMBERS, and a new TV with only ONE BUTTON to control EVERYTHING on the TV. Channel selection, volume control, mute, brightness, color, contrast, and about 3,000 other functions.... FROM ONE SINGLE BUTTON. Wow, how convenient. (And I thought programming a VCR was difficult about 30 years ago!)
I'll get it figured out, or perhaps adopt a teenager to do stuff around here!

Some of the older smart TV's have rather slow Android processors with considerable lag in functions. Bypassing the TV's internal processor by adding a new ROKU, Apple or other external streaming box will update your old TV and make functions lightning fast. Streaming boxes start at about $50.

Pluto TV is good and I enjoy it when I get to it but it doesn't satisfy my new content options or actual live (not curated versions of live TV). It only shows the big four network affiliates (ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX) plus their respective subchannels. In Nashville, for example, WKRN-DT Channel 2 (ABC) is shown on the app, but WUXP-DT Channel 30 (MyNetworkTV) isn't. Also, it doesn't show the virtual number on Pluto TV (somewhat annoying tbh).

Antenna Man, thanks for the review of Pluto. I'm posting my experience below for other readers.
You don't need to download the app to use Pluto. Just go to the website and it plays without installing anything. I used my Android phone. The app gets a lot of negative reviews so I decided not to use it.
A lot of the content is on UA-cam but there's a lot of content that's not on UA-cam. Like Antenna Man said, there's a lot of content.
The Pluto website playback and channel scrolling was choppy most of the time (for me). I read other reviews with similar complaints on Google Play. However, UA-cam, on the same device during the same times was much smoother without connection type interruptions (choppiness).
I watched 21 Jump Street and Midsomer Murders with frequent, very short interruptions (about 1 or 2 seconds) that were minimally annoying.
I was unable to get a true full screen. The channel listings and a header were always present on my device. Portrait view is larger than landscape view. Audio and visual quality were fine. All buttons are slow to respond.
Overall, for a free service, I like it. I plan on watching Andromeda later (it just got added).
    Just Google: Pluto TV

💖 this app, I've had it for quite some time now. Cut the cord yrs ago. I actually mirror it onto my smart tv, with a mirroring device (gosh can't remember the name right now, I'm not home to ck it) anyways so I don't even need wifi! I also have crackle, tubi, hoopla straight out of my library, kodi, mdc! Anyway good app! I don't watch much tv but I certainly enjoy the news, docs and the convenience of having all my media on my cell!
    Good heads up!

But I've had zero success figuring out how to pare down the channel list that I see to just those channels that I'm interested. in. I've even used the provided PlutoTV tutorial, and selected only certain channels to be visible. But it doesn't work. Still have the entire liste. Oh well; it's free. Thanks, PlutoTV.

Yeah, they need something like an "Add to Favorites" selection; then you could bring up "My Favorites." In my browser on the PC, I made shortcuts to specific channels' URL's so I can go directly to them. Example: This Old House: pluto.tv/live-tv/this-old-house

    • @Shootingstarcomics
      @Shootingstarcomics 4 роки тому +1

Peter Chase they actually do have a way to favorite channels and also hide channels but you have to use it on the app and I think you can do it on the website too. It doesn’t work though, hopefully it will end fixed soon but some of the app reviews are complaining about it being broken since the beginning.
I would love to be able to just see favorites first and then look at the rest if nothing was on them

A user interface so simple, it's downright primitive. Just scroll through the channels, because that's _all_ you can do. No, you can't dial in a channel number. No, you can't jump to one of the categories. No, you can't go to the previous channel you were on. No, you can't set up "favorite" channels (well, you can set them up on the web, but they'll be ignored because that feature's been broken for over a year). No, you can't search. Scroll, buddy, and scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll, because there are a _lot_ of channels and _all_ you can do is scroll through them all.
Same for the on-demand content: scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll, because there's no search, no watchlist, no "continue watching," etc. Did you start watching a TV series in on-demand? Good luck finding it again to watch the next episode. At least make a note of which category you found it in, so you're not scrolling through everything in every category.
It's also a problem that you have no idea what's coming up. The program guide shows what's on now, and that's about it. But hey, you can just keep scrolling through all of the channels all day long to see if you can find something you want to watch. Got nothing better to do, huh?
There's absolutely some good content there. But ViacomCBS has done nothing to make it easy to find anything. This is definitely a "when you're bored and just want to channel surf" app.

Been using Pluto TV for years and hope I don't jinx it but hard to believe in 2022 it is still 100% free. My Wife and I have a Roku so with Pluto, the Live TV Roku app, and the Antenna for local sports and news, I see zero reason to ever pay for cable again.
