Exactly. Plus, people who aren't into Korean culture/entertainment always seem so flabbergasted as to why stuff from "some random Asian country" is getting famous or whatever. So the question about what made K-pop blow up was in itself a bit of a giveaway, but paired with the fact that he asked it randomly instead of talking about kpop issues made it a dead giveaway.
Or they just might not have shown it. They had to make some cuts to make the video shorter too. We still don't know if he did or didn't answer that question, we just know it how the editor showed us. But I do want to know to see how far his research actually went to prepare for being in this video lol
I'm not a K-pop fan but I can tell you everyone who knows about K-pop is aware of how toxic the industry is. I guarantee the mole would be aware of this too

Ngl the moment Troy said Kpop acts as a platform for LGBTQ+, I knew he was hella sus. Western belief, unfortunately, sees boy bands and fashion as being inherently queer coded (something that is changing with time). The irony is South Korea is a very conservative environment and the lgbtq+ idols often get cold receptions, to the point the industry prefers them to keep quiet about sexualities, despite any pandering it encourages. A very unfortunate part of the industry that is slooooowly changing. (And we k-pop stans can try to encourage and support more understanding in the industry, to allow people who want to entertain us to be able to live comfortable lives.)

(im genuinely not trying to be rude or nasty so plz don’t be offended 🥺) but even if you don’t have the money for Official merch , you have something....and what i mean is it can be off brand merch , a sticker a banner, something you made, for example a tshirt or a word poster made for you’re binder or something... all kpop fans have something to show for , it doesn’t always have to be official or worth anything..... like they stated in the video like Jaime he didn’t have as much merch but he had the album’s digitally (im aware not every fan can even afford that , but for ex when i was a new kpop fan and in hs all i did was print pictures of idols and put it on my wall and binder XD) Now that im older and have been a fan for years now i have accumulated merch... but my point is that all kpop fans usually have something to show for. valuable or not

She LITERALLY said her ult was ATEEZ and y'all still voted her like PLEASE if you asked a local (at least in my country), they wouldn't know any other k-pop group other than BTS & BLACKPINK. That's not the point though. If you're only a fan of a couple of groups, you're not a SUPERFAN. That's the kind of distinction you have to be aware of when you're in a competition.

What defines a superfan? Can it be someone who listens to 40 different groups and knows a little about all of them? Can it be someone who listens to only 5 groups but knows them super in-depth? Is it somewhere in the middle? A combination? I think we all have a different definition for the term lol
Who knows about a lot of groups but has info and has info about the songs the members, it doesn't have to be like everything but atleast know about the members
I think you have to be a fan of a minimum of 5 groups - know all the title songs and member names. Can list at least 20 more groups and idols. Have to be familiar with the top 5 songs of each year since you became a superfan, so even if you don't know the song you'll know the artist or you know the chorus or a dance move. Know some random facts/news/gossip/trivia.
I actually really admire Frankie, my parents would never in a million years show any interest in K pop. I have shared my love for their industry for quite a while now and all my family can do is make fun of me, call me weird, or even be racist.
Yeah my mom loves kpop and dramas and have been watching them with me since the early 00s..its sad more parents do venture into the interest of their kids.

i think the point he was trying to make was more that if you were the mole and you did quick research on kpop those would be the groups you would learn about because they're the most popular and some of the most visible in western media. ofc we all know he was the mole, but he was just trying to cast doubt on anyone who focused too much on the really popular groups and make it seem like they prepared for this video by googling "most popular kpop"
That’s true but I think what they meant is that if you know more underrated groups you’re likely more invested in Kpop, whereas if you just know popular groups it could be because you just see them a lot online and everyone talks about them so much. I mean, I don’t stan Twice at all but I know a lot about them and all the members just because I see them everywhere.

Aww thanks. Don't feel bad. I actually had a lot of fun and it inspired me to make my own show, with mostly older kpop Fans. It's called Road to Hagdom. Your parents might enjoy it (you might too). Lots of fans all ages, yelling about kpop (and I do mean YELLING) haha
1 month 😭😅 it’s been a month since I have become OBSESSED with Kpop! Not my fault though, I was born in 7/8/2006 and just when kpop was starting to blow up all around the world, I moved back to my country in Asia were foreign music is not a thing. I moved back to England in Christmas 2017 and I was still getting used to my life back in England again. Now that I am up to date with everything in the UK again, I have discovered the great world of K-pop. (But I did, and still do, watch k-dramas though)

When troy said they went to multiple BnN to get all the members covers, I knew they were the mole. An Army at that time would know that the only cover sold in stores was the group cover. The single cover magazines were part of a limited edition package sold only online. 💜
Girlie has been their since shinee, hyuna, 2pm, boa, after school, wonder girls, psy, 2ne1, sistar, girls gen, rain, exo, big bang and how just kpop evolved. When she talked about boa and after school I knew she wasn't the mole cause u got to be a true kpop stans to know these legends.

Jaimie, Dara and Ava are also going to be on some episodes of the show. And thanks even more for choosing the lovely kpop stans for the episode (and yes even the mole haha). They are the loveliest people and we have kept in contact since the filming a month or so ago. I'm glad people get to see that we're not all problematic and just have a passion for amazing music. I wish I'd gotten to mention all the groups I stan (ATZ, MX, NCT, SKZ TBZ EXO, WINNER SUPERM PTG ONEUS, VICTON SVT TXT.. I could go on), I am a massive multi. Also my background is my studio set for my UA-cam channel that's why it looks 'staged' ...😂
I'm so proud and respect them for leading K-Pop. I realized once again that music can communicate a lot of things and empathize together regardless of language.

this is a superfan episode, which means you’d likely have a wide range of knowledge and interest in groups. I don’t think anyone could be considered a kpop superfan if they only focus on one or two groups, because then you’re more of a superfan of those groups rather than kpop as a whole. plus, the average fan would know more about mainstream groups than lesser known ones, so exclusively mentioning mainstream groups can convey that you haven’t actually took the time to delve into the kpop industry and all the groups out there.

Western belief, unfortunately, sees boy bands and fashion as being inherently queer coded (something that is changing with time). The irony is South Korea is a very conservative environment and the lgbtq+ idols often get cold receptions, to the point the industry prefers them to keep quiet about sexualities, despite any pandering it encourages. A very unfortunate part of the industry that is slooooowly changing. (And we k-pop stans can try to encourage and support more understanding in the industry, to allow people who want to entertain us to be able to live comfortable lives.)

Can it be someone who listens to 40 different groups and knows a little about all of them?
Can it be someone who listens to only 5 groups but knows them super in-depth?
Is it somewhere in the middle? A combination? I think we all have a different definition for the term lol
Who knows about a lot of groups but has info and has info about the songs the members, it doesn't have to be like everything but atleast know about the members
I think you have to be a fan of a minimum of 5 groups - know all the title songs and member names. Can list at least 20 more groups and idols. Have to be familiar with the top 5 songs of each year since you became a superfan, so even if you don't know the song you'll know the artist or you know the chorus or a dance move. Know some random facts/news/gossip/trivia.
I actually really admire Frankie, my parents would never in a million years show any interest in K pop. I have shared my love for their industry for quite a while now and all my family can do is make fun of me, call me weird, or even be racist.

this is a superfan episode, which means you’d likely have a wide range of knowledge and interest in groups. I don’t think anyone could be considered a kpop superfan if they only focus on one or two groups, because then you’re more of a superfan of those groups rather than kpop as a whole. plus, the average fan would know more about mainstream groups than lesser known ones, so exclusively mentioning mainstream groups can convey that you haven’t actually took the time to delve into the kpop industry and all the groups out there.
