    We are the slowest infrastructure builders in the world. Our projects constantly go over budget, over cost with no explanation. How in the hell do you hand out lucrative contracts with no penalty clause, no budget restraints, no budget restraints. Graft!

    Years ago I was working in Hong Kong for a British consulting firm that participated with a consortium for the 1st stage design of an MTR subway line between Shatin and Central. It is a 17 km line that involved building new stations, tunneling several sections, and a tunnel under the harbour. The works started in May 2016 and finished in May 2022. That is, 6 years in total and the trains are running normally. At my return to Toronto in 2020 I found a TTC station at Yonge & Eglington was under construction, and is still under construction at the end of 2022. We Canadians are not morons, there's something wrong with the way the Eglington Crosstown LRT is managed? Or our politicians aren't so talented as we think?

      I worked at Eglinton Crosstown station, you would be quite surprised how large it is, the largest station on crosstown, all 4 buildings at each corner of that intersection have underground access to cross town, they are building them to have a few stores too.

    • @JeremyMacDonald1973
      @JeremyMacDonald1973 Рік тому

      Metrolinx is a Provincial organization tasked with overseeing transport infrastructure in southern Ontario they can't "walk away" anymore then the Department of Agriculture can. People could be fired and it would be possible to dissolve the agency but it can't walk away. However, this is a Public-Private Partnership and the private sector part, that does the actual construction, is Crosslinx which is a consortium of ACS-Dragados, AECON, EllisDon, SNC-Lavalin. These corporations could walk away but of course if they tried there would be legal action against them.

    • @JeremyMacDonald1973
      @JeremyMacDonald1973 Рік тому

      @@pakeshde7518 Could not fine or charge them. That requires proving that they willfully broke the law which is highly doubtful. Could probably sue Crosslinx and its parent corps for breach of contract. With Metrolinx all you could do was fire people and possibly dissolve the agency.

    Chinese contractors could have done it in 4 years. Here is a lot of money under the table by delaying it. We all know where that money goes.

    • @JeremyMacDonald1973
      @JeremyMacDonald1973 Рік тому

      Historically the Chinese had a lot of early problems with their construction (and sometimes still do) and I suspect one reason they got so good at doing this sort of construction is that they simply have done an absolute ton of it for several decades. The Europeans do really good work most of the time but they simply build far more projects like these then we do in North America. I think its essentially the difference between building something like this for the first time versus doing it for the fifth time.

    York Regon on Hw7 build a bus stop in the middle of the road from Hwy 400 to Woodbine Ave takes years and spend taxpayers billions of dollars for just a bus stop.. you don’t see more than 5 peoples on the bus.

    • @my2iu
      @my2iu Рік тому +9

      400 to Woodbine is, like, 20km long and goes across 3 different cities and connects up to the subway to downtown. A billion dollars for that is pretty cheap. Highway 7 gets pretty congested sometimes, so being able to whizz by on the bus is pretty sweet.

    • @my2iu

      @tom hook To be fair, we live in a province where the right wing party won power with fewer votes than the left wing parties. That same government regularly overrides the constitution when people disagree with it, and they just made a law making municipal elections useless because mayors can now pass their own laws with only 33% of the vote in city council.
