My dad had a bootleg reel to reel from 1969. A buddy of his from work recorded it at a concert in New Jersey. The comedy thing they did that night was bringing a teen age boy on stage to teach him music and to sing with them. Joe Long and Tommy DeVito were the culprits.
4 Seasons absolutely live. This is a very rare audience recording. Thanks, ukrainiaroyal. 0:24- "Since I Don't Have You" 2:45 - "How Do You Make a Hit Song", stage talk 11:55- "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" 15:37- "I've Got You Under my Skin" 19:32- comedy sketch
RARE RECORDINGS..I wish Phillips would have released more LIVE recording like VJ last one..It might been a FAKE LIVE LP but it was good..HOW DO YOU MAKE A HIT SONG IS GREAT LIVE !!! from VJ lp
“Recorded LIVE on Stage with The Four Seasons” was released in 1965 and was not recorded LIVE at all. It was a studio album with live overdubs. It does not contain any major hits, except a little of Sherry and the songs on this album have probably never been played before in concert by the group. Here is the song list: 1 Blues In The Night 2 Just In Time 3 Little Boy (In Grown Up Clothes) 4 I Can Dream Can't I? 5 How Do You Make A Hit Song? (Medley) 6 By Myself 7 Jada 8 We Three 9 Day In Day Out 10 My Mother's Eyes 11 Mack The Knife 12 Come Si Bella 13 Brotherhood Of Man
@@JerDem100 There was Frankies 1st song My Mothers eyes from early 50's...., Come Si Bella hit before the 4 Seasons,...Little Boy was Current and Last hit on VJ....How Do You Make a Hit song..To round it off with bits of Sherry..Comedy bits.. Was a THROW AWAY LP TO FINISH THE VJ CONTRACT. They OWED THEM LOT OF MONEY..
Queens, NYC? WOW. I was born and lived in Queens for 25 years before i moved to Fort Lauderdale. This could have been Shea Stadium or sometning. I was 18 or 19, i might have come to this concert if i knew about it back then. Oh, he just said it was "Queens College". Madonna Mi , just a stones throw away from where i lived in Bayside. When Merv Griffen heard me sing " Cant Take My Eyes Off You, he told me " you have a really beautiful voice ". I will never forget that. Frankie & The 4 Seasons did that so well. Sounds like this was a great concert.❤🎹🎤🎶😁
The last song or comedy skit starting at about 20 minutes is Frankie's combination of "I'm in the Mood for Love" and "Moody's Mood for Love." "I'm in the Mood for Love" is an old standard. "Moody's Mood for Love" was the great James Moody's jazz saxophone solo of that song. A song writer by the name of Eddie Jefferson put words to "Moody's Mood for Love" and it became a jazz hit by Clarence Beeks, better known as King Pleasure, with female jazz singer Annie Ross. Frankie does the Annie Ross parts using his Rose Murphy voice. Rose Murphy was another great jazz singer, also known as the Che Che Girl. This combination of songs is used in Jersey Boys but in a non comedic way. It is this combination of songs that demonstrated Frankie's great range and Gaudio and Crewe decided to utilize it to create the 4 Seasons "Sound" starting with "Sherry." David
Frankie used to hold a bandana on his head when he sang this. I have a photo of him doing that, taken by a friend who was there at one of their shows. Someone might have a recording of Tommy playing around with Johnny Cash's "I Walk the Line" ("I keep my pants up with a string of twine...")
There was a lot of clowning around on stage back then. The first time I saw them in 1966, they had a comedian opening for them. Joey? (?) Cass. Can someone confirm the first name?
Good memory of a very funny skit. And the next line was "If you want to see my face turn red as mine. Just say you're mine. And cut the twine. @@Polyphemus47
I don't remember the name of the comedian, but it wasn't Joey Cass. Joey Cass was the 4 Seasons drummer from 1966 through 1970. Joey Cass replaced Ronnie Roach as the 4 Seasons drummer. Joey Cass used to paraticipate in some of the 4 Seasons' skits occasionally but was not the opening comedian. @@Polyphemus47
@@lynettecace8233 OH yeah! Darnit - I can SEE that comedian in the grey mush that used to be my brain. Thank you for that correction - It all came back re: Joey Cass. My best memory of that show was "Tell It to the Rain" with the thunder and light show. They still opened with "Since I Don't Have You" - perfect, with Gaudio's Farfisa intro. Frankie's here in Vegas for a while - but I can't afford the ticket. *sigh*
This was taped at Queens College, NY in November 1968
Great info and thank you
