    Ice Cube isn’t a fan of watching rappers beef with each other, though he also understands that it’s a part of the game.
    Last month, before things got intense between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, he joined Canada’s E-Talk for a conversation about feuds in Hip Hop.

    Ice Cube & Cypress Hill beef almost turned deadly. DJ Muggs told complex in 2013 “But it got to the point where Westside Connection would be playing at the Power Jam, and Mexicans were throwing bottles at them and shit. Real racial tension. They were on the radio talking, and B would call up on the radio, grab his gun, and drive down to the fuckin’ radio station looking for him. It got a little heated.” Also Solo knocked out Ice Cube and gave his Westside Connection chain to B-Real at a Cypress Hill show at the House Of Blues in Los Angels. B-Real showed the chain to the crowed and took a picture with the chain. There were also concerns that the beef would have neighborhoods, gangs and the black and brown race beefing with each other and there was also rumors that the Mexican mafia was getting involved

    I can honestly say as some one who is old I'm split on it. its easy to look back on history and have 20/20 vision and say they shouldn't do it. Its hypocritical for us to say "shouldn't do this, lack of morality" etc, etc, etc, yadda, yadda, yadda when our generation of MC's did the exact same thing. Cube violated NWA (with good reason) LL Cool J ended Cannibus career before it got started.
    The Drake/Kendrick issue was 10 years in the making. It was also, in my opinion, a battle to protect a culture that has been exploited and disrespected (mostly our own fault but that's another conversation). was there some exposure? Yes. Did some one get hurt? Yes but not due to the beef as much as Drake's wrong doings coming back to haunt him.
    Is it necessary to be in a beef to be an great MC? Absolutely not. There's plenty of MC's who have never been in a beef.

    • @El_Fonzo
      @El_Fonzo 23 дні тому

      "A battle to protect the culture"? 😂😂😂 bro put the drugs down. These are just two idiot's going at each other, that's it. It's not that deep... only media outlets and Kendrick, D riders are making this a bigger deal than it has to be.

    • @RuaTheRapoet
      @RuaTheRapoet 19 днів тому

      I respect your take, including its reflection upon Hip-Hop history and acknowledgment that MCs don't have to have a beef to be legendary. I will ask though, is the way this got "real" a little different from how those past situations got real? Cause nobody likes when people die in a beef, and it's particularly painful to see it happen to the black community, but the way this Kendrick/Drake thing went down... it just seemed to get petty and unmanly to me, with the "gossipy" approach to battling (honestly, especially from Kendrick's side, even though he had the better music).

    • @El_Fonzo

      @@El_Fonzo You'll have to give me an example. When groups went at it before direct-dissing, it was just a competition of skills/moving the crowd. Then Moe Dee innovated direct dissing, but even then it was like "I'm better than you at rap." KRS did exaggerate MC Shan's claim when he dissed him (Shan never said it was all of Hip-Hop that started in the Bridge), and 2Pac was a lunatic who believed wild conspiracies of Biggie, but these too seem (to me) different from these present attacks. These present attacks seem more like, I'll straight up make up stuff about you and make it sound like I'm not even exaggerating, or the claim (e.g., pedophilia) is so drastic that even if it's an exaggeration we should cancel you.

And Common and Lupe, in their battles with Cube and Royce... some people may've not thought they could get vicious (verbally) like that. It comes down to any man who's tested needs to, if it's worthy competition, defend their turf.

      It was positive back then. Right before 2pac started preaching bout fire arms being his idol/girlfriend always acting up when the camera rolls. With thug life stuff that poisoned the weak minded and the youth leaving it where it's at today. All of them pathetically trying to maintain their "hard" image.
      But that's where you draw the line? Will Smith? Because his music is ghostwritten???
      Mc Hammer? Because he got too commercial leaving half his peers jealous because of that?

    • @GriffinPoole
      @GriffinPoole 24 дні тому

      @@nintendofannot4898 hiphop was always centered around struggle & difficulty, so the thug life mentality comes with it... i don't condone violence per se, but there was a code in hiphop where even the positve conscious rappers like a tribe called quest or de la soul (who are way better & far more respected in hiphop than will smith or hammer) rapped about their real lives... itz not about ghostwriters altho ur not the best if u don't write ur own lyrics, ghostwriters are cool for R&B or whatever but ur not the best rapper if those aren't ur actual words -the person who wrote those words is... but i didn't say anything about ghostwriters, u did... that shows ur inserurity, sounds like ur favorite rappers have ghostwriters... u already lost the argument if that's the case, LMAO... the real problem is when u have all of these suburban kids who act & lie as if they know real struggle when they don't, or how up & comin white artists use established black artists to build their credibility but don't put up & comin black artists on when they blow up... u also sound as if some rappers scare u, but just say that... nobody likes posers who act like they're something they're not, but i don't knock em if that's who they really are... true hiphop isn't for everybody, LOL.. if ur not who we think u are just be an actor, ain't no shame in it... but my last point is that real hiphop was created to represent the black experience in ameriKKKa & white folks always had a problem with that - still do... there are ppl who hate the fact that hiphop is black music & most of those ppl aren't black, but what else is new? there was a time when the only ppl who celebrated hiphop were blacks & puerto ricans, that's an actual fact... funny how u point out 1 of the biggest artists of all of recorded music, who just so happens to be black... most of drake's fans are looking for a light-skinned hero, same way most white boys champion eminem just because he's white (he's 1 of my favorites too, but even he admitted that white folks ride his dick simply because he's white)... they did the same exact thing to larry bird, they said he was the best simply because he was white... ameriKKKa has a problem with associating black ppl with greatness, SMH... maybe u targeted 2pac because he shot 2 off-duty cops who were beatin-up an unarmed black dude, who knows? artists like pac made hiphop competitive, where ppl knew they couldn't do what real rappers were doin... i get it, yall needed something that made u comfortable... u mention 2pac, but don't mention dear mama or brenda's gotta baby... but ur not biased right?
