Wow that Musk tunnel bit aged well. Man builds tiny tunnel that has no emergency escape features, that transports 1/10th of the traffic of light rail, and, by the way, only uses cars from his company. Also requires teams of drivers to operate because, you know, Autopilot won't work in those tunnels. Genius! You guys should start featuring monorails.

The tunnel in Las Vegas from Elon Musk is doing a lot of noise thanks to marketing but is far from being one of the most impressive tunnelling work in engineering point of view. Hope you can dig the subject further as tunnelling will grow more and more in the future of civil projects

You are correct. Up to June 2020, the daily traffic of Hong Kong Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is 1250, only 8% of the conservative traffic estimation done by the government. Waste of money.

That means the newsmakers only show the good parts of USA and bad parts of Africa because my country is always on TV because of corruption and the US government cancelled a project because they said our country is corrupt. @Syed Shuvo i think you have not ever met any quality structural engineer. Architects gives idea of a project and structural engineers make it real. Without structural engineers, architects can do nothing except dreaming. But civil engineers can do projects in some cases.

The Las Vegas tunnel seams like a rail road. Very narrow. Riding must be very difficult in such a narrow tunnel.
There is one more bridge like Hongkong Macau bridge, Please check the Øresund Bridge(a tunnel Bridge) Which connects two countries, Denmark (Copenhagen) and Sweden (Malmo). I have been there in a ship and passed under that Bridge.

i did a bachelor of engineering in civil and than switched to architecture and now i have bachelor in both and i can tell you from my perspective architecture is way better, you have practically no limits in architecture

@@arun-it9gr yes it is not only paradoxical but also not correct and sounds weird haha, but because i did a bachelor in civil engineering i exactly get what you are thinking, you are actually not wrong, that engineering has a lot of beauty but mostly not a filigran and elegant as in architecture. civil eng is artwise like the architecture of all engineering professions.but if you would get in arch. you would see that there is almost infinte art aspects in it if you dig for it.. i hope my english is understadable haha, it is not my first lang.
Why life of the civil engineering structures are so long, that it causes unemployment in this department.

The California high speed rail project is not an impressive project. It will barely classify as high speed rail. At most it will save you an hour of time vs driving. It will also be a slower than flying. So if you are on a budget you will drive. If you aren't, you will fly. The only impressive part is just how much of a waste of money it is.

High-speed rail unfortunately is not economical for countries having large areas to cover. They will ultimately cost almost as much as flying if not the same and takes more time which is quite senseless. Japan and Europe were able to implement this because these are congested areas with no space to waste for building senseless airports. They can easily cover the distances by using high-speed rail as distances are shorter across major cities and there is no need of vast tracts of land for an airport.

At least three of these four projects are pretty iffy. By what virtue they deserve to be in a "top four" list I don't know.
I'm surprised the Ryugyong Hotel wasn't included instead of the HK-Macau Bridge. It would have fit right in.

What exactly do civil engineers do on megatall skyscrapers? Site grading and drainage, sure, but methinks someone is trying to ride the structural engineer's coattails here!
Exactly, the real professionals who are actually involved in designing these structures are not truly credited. Architects and Structural engineers are the core design team and they sum it up and say civil engineers. Quiet misleading for most aspiring young students.
