Yikes Im watching this for history right now actually. We need more teachers that get different sources for their classes. Im learning more at my new school and we dont even use books😂
Sal, you have a gift for explaining things in a clear and concise, conversational and enjoyable way. Something about your delivery and the context you give really makes one want to listen. Thanks!
+Francisco At least he's not saying what one of the students in my daughter's class said (when she was a teacher's assistant): The test question was "What was Kennedy's biggest challenge during the Bay of Pigs invasion? The student's answer was "Whether to sleep with Marilyn Monroe or stay faithful to his wife."
That's right, they totally left out the part where US history is all rainbows and unicorns. They never propped up any corrupt dictatorships or monarchies or did anything hypocritical with the justification that their citizens' freedom should come at the expense of others. Its really awful when Russia and China go messing around with other countries though, but the US never did or would ever do such things.
Sal, is there any topic you CAN'T teach? Seriously, the breadth of your knowledge is envious; I only wish there were more hours in the day so I could watch more of your videos.
My dad served as a fighter pilot in the Navy stationed in Cuba during this time ,bay of pigs and cuban missile crisis. My Dad disliked JFK. He lied to the American people. Not only were there missiles in ,Cuba, there was also Russian submarines in the gulf of Mexico.
Im studying this in history right now and i was to learn this from a text book. I just couldn't understand it. This video really helped me understand different perspectives
@Mode2 He also read bahía Honda like it was written "Janda" in Spanish. If he makes more videos like these he should make sure every foreign word is shown on screen, like he did with the French and Vietnamese names in the previous lectures.
Focus on inherent value of free markets and individualism, and failings of collectivism (including forced submission of individual to collective will, i.e., will of communist intellectual elites.)
Quite an informative approach. Could have mentioned the "successful" Guatemala regime change in the 1950s at the behest of the United Fruit Company. Also, if the lessons of the fiasco had really been taken on board, the USA would not have intervened in the civil war in Vietnam, losing 50,000 troops over 15 years before the country was re-unified.Not to mention Iraq and Afghanistan.
That is also why we failed because that we only sent no more than a few thousand troops. If we had sent at least hundreds of thousands, we would've captured that island and overthrown that communist prick Castro. Also problem was being the Cold War, Cuba sided with the Soviet Union and had to call off the invasion to prevent a nuclear war. We were close too of getting into one.
There was a good reenactment of this event in the miniseries "The Company" (a history of the CIA). Also check out the trailer on you-tube of the movie "The Last Grenade", a movie about mercenaries. Countries use mercenaries when they want to acheive some military goal without officially being a part of the operation. (Although I'm not sure what kinds of jobs Blackwater gets hired for).
No. JFK didn't fire brother RFK who went to the CIA and organized the details WITHOUT getting the military involved upfront. The incompetence lies with the Kennedy brothers, but of course any failure was always due to someone else.
@dangermous1968 the more I learn about what the CIA actually did do, the more I keep thinking they'd be more effective if they worked like the Mossad: They don't give a crap about who thinks what.
@trexx32 I do think America should legalize all drugs so that south america can go to peace more easily. But why don't they? I find it hard to blame anyone in particular, most Americans believe they need to stop drug use and trafficking. I partly blame the weapon lobbyists though. I also doubt that Mexico has any potential to set up a functional, free nation right now, even if the US magically vanished over night.
And if they really wanted to rid of Castro, the US would've have sent far more troops, only sending a few thousand, 1,400 of them Cuban refugies. The US should've had sent at least a hundred thousand, however there was a problem. It was the height of the Cold War and Cuba then sided with the Soviet Union, therefore Kennedy had to call off the invasion when Soviet Russia sent missles on the island knowing it would have triggered a nuclear war with the Soviets.
it's, *"Sal??,"* is it?? well??, ok then re: the brilliant, amazing founder *OF* the amazing, *also brilliant,* world renowned *Kahn Academy!!* I mean, I did NOT remember his FULL *first* NAME, this genius..so, I *actually* thought: well! honestly, I had NO idea he might harbor awesome, socio-political, wisdom-wonderful beliefs, considerations and understandings..and so, how *cool* is it?? that he allowed...his brother??...cousin?? to post VIDEOS, put together by them..whoever, wherever they were stationed, on the Kahn family tree..so *generous* of him to allow that relative to teach on his own understandings.😐 and ok, hahahaha!!🤣 b/c try as I might, I could NOT remember his *first/1st* name! even *though* I'd looked him up, *before,* on the WikiP website, probably a few years back [soon after I'd heard about his project]..therefore, I did NOT recognize that his advertised name was an *abbreviated* version/nickname of his *full* first name of, *"Salman!!"* which I *now* get, of course that, "Sal," IS 'short,' for Salman, LoLoLoL!!😆 so, *please,* forgive me, Universe/Multiverse! and also, please forgive me, you guys here @ UA-cam, hahaha!!😄: for I 💁🏾♀️ *DO* understand that I've committed the most *serious* of social media sins, y'all..as delineated in this comment.👍👸🏾😁🌺
We left before he took our belongins & property, but he got them, anyways. JFK promised ,but never delivering the crucial Air Support needed. Who else likes Dallas Tx & Convertible Automobiles. ?
This is just unbearable. Talking of dictators as "guys", transforming them into devils.... The victims on both sides deserve better than this sloppy comment.
@trexx32 how many US slave states are there now, actually?? How many of them are worse off than cuba? Invasion certainly wasn't the best idea, but cuban exiles weren't exactly enamored with fidel. After all, he did better than batista, but worse than most democratic leaders....
they never taught us this in history class, and I'm already in college. gotta love today's education.
Yikes Im watching this for history right now actually. We need more teachers that get different sources for their classes. Im learning more at my new school and we dont even use books😂
cuz this is Propaganda and no history
@@martymcfly5423 I lost brain cells reading this, if its in the past and has historical significance, what do you know! its history
Sal, you have a gift for explaining things in a clear and concise, conversational and enjoyable way. Something about your delivery and the context you give really makes one want to listen. Thanks!
I wonder how many people my age actually know about this event because of Black Ops. lol
I started the CoD: BlackOps campaing and your video helped me get through stage 1... Thanks a lot for this video!!!
😂
i love history, cus it's just like cool stories that your dad would tell you.
So you are saying that we could have normal relations with Cuba if the Bay of Pigs never happened. * facepalm*
Excellent presentation! Thank you so much for keeping history alive and available to everyone to learn.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! This was very comprehensive and detailed - really helped me for my project.
i love how neutral you teach this stuff
Excellently explained, thank you!
Wonderfully explained...
JFK was toast in 63 and Castro lived to be an old man. Enough said
I would really love it if you did more videos about the cuban revolution
thank u so much this helped me understand this much better than another documentary
12:04 - A possible explanation for his assassination?
Im studying this in history right now and i was to learn this from a text book. I just couldn't understand it. This video really helped me understand different perspectives
Thanks for the story. Seems like there's not so many documentaries on this matter.
Thank you so much for explaining this so clearly and in 13 minutes too
Lol this is the same guy that helps me with pre cal and chem haha he does it all
That's Sal Khan, and he's the founder of Khan Academy ;)
I enjoy all your historic videos, great work.
this is awesome sauce
Not to knock your pronounciation, Sal, but Guevara is pronounced "Geh-vah-rah" not "goo-eh-veh-rah." Still a freakin' awesome video, man. Keep it up!
ty for posting!
What if I told you J.F.K. had that dawg in him... 12:07
@Mode2 He also read bahía Honda like it was written "Janda" in Spanish. If he makes more videos like these he should make sure every foreign word is shown on screen, like he did with the French and Vietnamese names in the previous lectures.
Thank you for video! Very interesting!
Do you have one of these on Syria?
Very interesting video! More History of U.S. wars please!
I have a freaking conference thing where i am USA and i just dont know cause the US is guilty if soooo many things
ok
Jane Jabre what?
Dismiss the guilty stuff do what Trump does. Say No and move the topic somewhere else.
Focus on inherent value of free markets and individualism, and failings of collectivism (including forced submission of individual to collective will, i.e., will of communist intellectual elites.)
Great videos (maybe a tad too biased toward the U.S., but then I guess that's nothing new) and a very cool concept.
How about overview video of the Cold War ?
Oh wow, I only knew about the science part of KhanAcademy.
We love you Che Guevara we do...
Afghanistan and Australia love you
Did anyone else notice the horns that Sal drew on Batista?

Thank you for the video
THank you Khan now i know about IAD :)
Great vid good information
Excellent info
Sal you should do a video on Mao.
so helpful!!!!
i love how he put devil horns on Batista when he sayed JFK dident like him :) lol
Great video. One small note, his name was Che Guevara (as in "car" or "bar" not Guevera).
well explained, you just got a new subscriber
Yes We KHAN! (can) :D ..man the range of things you have taught....did you come from space? O_o
What software do you use
I do want to flag that Dulles airport is named after John Foster Dulles (Sec. of State), not Allen Dulles. The two were brothers.
Hey!! Good Stuff.
Please do, The Age of Jackson
umm your correct cuba doesn't hate us but I wasn't talking about cuba
You can relive this very event in black ops.
Sal could you do a video on Osama and 911?
3rd! awesome as always!
Hey Khan, wheres the Korean war?
That is also why we failed because that we only sent no more than a few thousand troops. There's always two sides to history
Interesting video, but please remember, one does not need to talk extremeley LOUDLY into the microphone: Just turn up the 'gain' :) Cheers.
were those horns on batista?
What about “"Lawrence of Arabia"? British Beatlemania?

I have never known that the bay of pigs happened
Bay of Pigs was a disaster however it was more incompetence. President Kennedy to his credit fired those who headed the ill fated mission
No. JFK didn't fire brother RFK who went to the CIA and organized the details WITHOUT getting the military involved upfront. The incompetence lies with the Kennedy brothers, but of course any failure was always due to someone else.
False Flag - Operation Northwoods
lol @ Batista's devil horns!
Fidel Castro the devil in person

United Kingdom, eh? Isn't what the U.S is doing what you all have been doing for several centuries?
@hitman1365 Unfortunately a lot.
thats not what the videos about, he does this to explain what happened for people who don't understand, its not a video on ethics.
Are you a history teacher?

@KevinVancouver2 America DID win the war of 1812...
RIP Harambe
We left before he took our belongins & property, but he got them, anyways. JFK promised ,but never delivering the crucial Air Support needed. Who else likes Dallas Tx & Convertible Automobiles. ?
can someone summarize the video for me ?
This is just unbearable. Talking of dictators as "guys", transforming them into devils....

where is the rest of this course on conspiracy theories?
@trexx32 how many US slave states are there now, actually?? How many of them are worse off than cuba? Invasion certainly wasn't the best idea, but cuban exiles weren't exactly enamored with fidel. After all, he did better than batista, but worse than most democratic leaders....
this whole video is full of Propaganda-Lies
Terrible implications.
