We have a pregnant stray that adopted us, a month or so ago, and we have had a vet look at her and he says she is healthy, has done this before and is about to give birth any day. We have bred Maltese and that was a very involved process with everything you talked about it seems like, and I am expecting a much simpler process with this, but I still came here to refresh my midwifery skills. One issue is that she moved in to a property where we are building but do not yet live, so we aren't there 24/7 so that is a bit tricky. Thanks for the helpful information.
Good advice! About the green discharge, I just had a pekingese girl that had It 2 weeks prior to expected birth date. My vet found out in the ultrasound 2 dead puppies and 2 puppies still alive. Mom had 2 shots of oxitocyn to help her with the abortion of the dead puppies and my vet expected the other puppies were going to be aborted too. A n hour after she delivered the 2 dead puppies BUT she kept the 2 alive remaining pups. She was put on antibiotic (amoxicilin+ Clavulonic acid) for 5 days and after that she continue the pregnacy and delivered 2 healthy puppies at the due date. My vet guess It was an intrauterine infection but gladly everything worked out well for mom and puppies.

Instead of using Vaseline I suggest using food grade coconut oil is a lot more hygienic and its natural saline just in case puppy ingest or get in eyes or nose

Hi James. Nice very informative video. If you can just give me some insights of my problem. I have a newly stud dog just 7 days after her last stud and she got a DEEP cut on her upper nose while like trying to escape from her kennel because of her fear of the rumbling thunderstorms. I got her to the vet as soon as i saw it and they've done abt 7 stiches to close the deep cut with miderate blood coming out. Thankfully blood stopped after the stitches. They administered a little anaesthesia yo keep her groggy some antibacterial and anti inflamatory shots i believe. After a day now she is fine eating normally. The vet prescribed amoxiclav for 7 days and Himpyrin for anti fever/anti inflam for 5 days. But i did not push through giving my dog Himpyrin for it may affect the 1st part of my dog's pregnancy. What do you think about the situation James? Will it cause a miscarriage?

I have a bitch whom has just turned one year and is 3 weeks out of her first season (finished 3 weeks ago) and it is looking like she is beginning to have a phantom pregnancy. I have never experienced this with a young dog - only once with a girl who had already whelped puppies before. Should this give me cause for concern with regard to breeding her in the future? Have you heard or seen a dog who produces the clear mucus/slime if it is a false pregnancy? I have one who is due in three days and has had enlarged teets, morning sickness, loss of appetite, lethargy, and now a drop in temp the over the last day as well as some clear mucus. However, she has barely put on much weight during the whole 9 weeks.

First time at dog breeding and think I dropped the ball. The gorgeous stud (Standard Poodle) that I chose is a six hour drive from my home. I contacted the stud owner when she came into season and ended up taking her on day 10 of her season. Her discharge had faded into a light coral. We introduced the dogs, and despite high winds and blackening skies, they were both ready, willing and able almost immediately. Just as the stud achieved a tie, the heavens broke loose with a torrential downpour. We held her still, so as to protect the male, and by the time the stud released, we were all soaked to the skin and freezing. I put her in the car so as to keep her from excessive peeing and to help retain sperm, and sought out overnight hotel accommodations, with a plan to return her late next day for second tie. However, with no pet rooms available in first two hotels, and heavy rain making it hard to see - I gave it up and hit the highway for the drive home. So, only one tie. What's the chance of success, or litter size?
@@pedropunjabi7339 Ten gorgeous puppies. All survived and four of them became level 12 service dogs. The only downside was a lack of coat color variety - all black and white. Dam was white/ chocolate pied, and sire was black with red muzzle. I kept one, and she is an amazing athlete - sweet companion and whip smart. It turned out to be a great success.

Mucus plug has dropped out completely normal. Nothing to worry about.
But the not eating is a concern. Try hand feeding boiled chicken and rice

I am pretty sure the lady raised the dogs for therapy dogs and she would spend 18 months training them
