I made a playlist of Watercolor lesson's to practice, and am looking forward to do this. Kris, I can't express my gratitude enough, I know this is the foundation of my artwork. Huge hugs, ~*Shana
Thank you so much for this video. I am directly going to try this out as I have no sense of the depth of contrast beyond a dark, mid and white scale. I have been looking for this kind of practical demonstration. Have subscribed and look forward to more.
Great question. You can do this same exercise with any color. However, with some light colors (for example yellow) it would be very difficult to get all 10 steps of value. But with dark colors (dark blue, purple or red) you should be able to achieve all 10 steps. I have a free course on my website that guides you through this process - studio.krisdebruine.com/values
Sorry it wasn't clear. I don't provide precise ratios of pigment to water, as I find that a little cumbersome. I "eyeball" the steps, by mixing the paint on my palette, until I see the right value. This, of course, takes practice. And that is the point of this exercise. To practice this kind of scale until you can see it and paint it. I hope this makes a bit more sense now. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts.

Excellent...but how to create value scale of each colour?

Not sure I understand. Was hoping you'd speak more about adding water and how much.
