The problem with Amex cards, especially the gold level cards like gold charge, MRCC and smart earn card is that you have to spend in a particular pattern if you want maximum benefits. You need to spend ₹ 20k per month with 4 transactions of 1.5K each in case of MRCC, 6 transactions of 1k in gold, 2.5K each per month on Amazon/ Flipkart and Uber and another 2.5K per month on their 5X partners in case of smart earn.They have made things very complicated. With this approach they cannot be successful in India. On top of that, most merchants don’t even accept their cards.
The reason Amex has mentioned " A person should have other bank's card" is because they themselves are aware that Amex has very low acceptance in India....

Amex only issues credit cards. No bank accounts. You have to apply directly for a credit card. But you should have at least one credit card of some other bank to get an Amex card.
Darling, I have Amex Membership reward card but due to its high annual fee of ₹5500 I want to downgrade it to a smart earn credit card….So how much difference of reward points in between these card?
@@CardAcademy Yeah...due to having multiple bank cards i only managed to spent 1.05 lakh in 10 months Still 45K left for get waived off its annual fee so in touch with amex agent to flipp/downgrade this card!

I have this card LTF as a companion card to MRCC. The points from both cards are clubbed. Both these cards help me get 40,000 RPs a year

If your spends are less than Rs. 20,000 per month on Amex card, you can downgrade it to Smart Earn.
