The game that’s advertised actually looks good and very interesting as a Pokémon clone that I would actually play, but the game is literally nothing like the company advertises like it’s not anywhere close.

So having downloaded and played evertale everyday for probably 6 months (I've since deleted it), there's literally two games on it. The first thing it lets you play is *kinda* like pokemon, since you can catch monsters and level them up and stuff, but you really only use the various anime story characters. Then you finish that and the main game is your standard gacha autobattler. I did find the game fun, but I deleted it because I was too hooked and knew if I kept it I'd spend money, and I'm not spending real money on a gacha game

Meanwhile, the actual gameplay is a gacha raid shadow legends RPG without a single horror element in the game, and no reference to any of the horror trailers. It's insane to me.

Out of boredom I ended up playing Top War and it is almost exclusively well off busy parents. I know this because within the first week I staged a coup for ownership of one of the top guilds and it ended up in a very real political dispute between the other top guilds, it was quite literally Americans, Brazilians, and Koreans almost exclusively in each guild. It was actually kind of fun being some random unemployed kid bossing around people twice my age (granted there are a few young adults). However, scheduling was an absolute shit show and most people were just playing on their phones while going about their day. And then when the actual big events for central power started occurring, you begin to notice how deep some of their pockets were. Each side had 1 big whale and unfortunately for how these games work, it is quite literally an arms race to get upgraded troops. It would take 10x the people to fight someone with 1 level increase, if you were higher power, there was nothing and nobody that could stop you. And this came to pass when the other 2 guilds got people 2-3 levels up and just absolutely demolished us. I relinquished my ownership and got a job after that one. The game sucks straight ass, but there is nothing better so people who are looking for that just flock to it in mass. There are dozens of servers each having their own set of whales who pump literally hundreds to thousands daily. There were people who would consult with me on how to spend their money effectively. It's actually insane to think that I was able to keep up by only spending $20 for the few good special characters (They release these premium characters that you can only get during a limited time gacha event or bundle and is impossible to maintain power without purchasing) this is seen as like a general forced purchase to even play the game at a competitive level. However, you also have to swing whales and keep them happy to introduce more economy into your guild. Never before have I been so stressed over something I genuinely cared so little about. The diplomacy and strategy was actually pretty fun, but that was not because of the game or the developers at all. Poaching was fire.
At 14:04 it is insanely funny because top left the weather is ripped straight from breath of the wild so saying 4 yeafs for stolen assets is really funny

So imagine my HUGE whiplash that the game I used to spend days on at a time was advertising on TikTok as if they were on of those dumb puzzle ads. Evony is basically a city builder and defender with a huge focus on building your guild of other players. I hate those games nowadays but Evony stayed nostalgic lol.
WE NEED A PART TWO WITH MERGE MANSION! litterally it's a puzzle game ala Lillys Garden with a murderous grandma and they made an irl ad with Kathy Bates. That was fecking hilarious. Also bitlife is actually a mobile game where the ads actually show the game, but also BitLife is nearly only one time purchases.
As a fire emblem fan, the Heroes game is actually decent quality and translates the original games into a mobile format fairly decently. Though I’m likely biased because they give my fav characters beach outfits lmao

As a 9 year old kid, my friend and I played evony religiously. I mean like way way too much. Over my 4 years playing I was in the top 10 on my server. The game back then I believe still exists in some form, but the devs kept making changes that made the grinding process to progress a lot of things almost entirely requiring purchases. It was a real-time city building game like clash of clans but more late 90s classic pc game style, train troops, upkeep troops, guilds and wars. The game was really good and fun, and truly sparked my love for small game communities; and set up my unending rage watching money ruin the game. It started getting extremely overrun by bots, but the devs didnt care cause the people running these bots were whales, spending 2k on average per bot. I knew a guy who had a whole 100 person alliance of only his own bots for farming and transporting resources to his main, filling the area all around himself so no one could reasonably attack. Oh how I wish to play the game again in a pure form. Makes absolute sense that they went on to do all the games and ads they do now.
In the mobile game ad at 16:29, I witnessed the Joker literally replanting the 'seeds' of civilization, but from the Christopher Nolan Trilogy I know that the Joker's main focus is to destabilize society. It's almost as though these ads are not meant to be realistic...
fun fact that I learned is that a lot of those mobile game ads that are nothing like the actual games are actually prototypes. basically mobile game companies come up with a simple premise and see how much attention it can get from that style of game and if it gets enough downloads or clicks ONLY THEN will they start to make the game. fun fact that I learned is that a lot of those mobile game ads that are nothing like the actual games are actually prototypes. basically mobile game companies come up with a simple premise and see how much attention it can get from that style of game and if it gets enough downloads or clicks ONLY THEN will they start to make the game.
