RIP Daniel Dennet, your destruction of WLC will always be remembered!
My Daniel Dennet thought was about the question "Why?" He said it could mean two things "What for? and "How come?" Then went on to explain it by talking about asking children questions like "Why are rocks sharp? So animals can use them to scratch."
That's it exactly. I _loved_ the way that one of Dennett's talks would always get me to _really_ think about how I thought about the concepts he was discussing. He had a gift for communicating to the lay audience.
Dennett always seemed to find the perfect clearance from the technical weeds, strip out the jargon and not be left with something so dumbed down it didn't really accurately represent the concept as it is understood by actual philosophers anymore.
He was so generous with his knowledge and insight, and he shared it so wonderfully in his talks.
WLC made a video "refuting" Einstein, which puts WLC in the same class with flat-earthers.... Cheers.

When he got very sick and was in the hospital, some years ago, he made it. He later joked with some of his friends who told him that they preyed for him. He said "And did you also sacrifice a goat?" to them.

It's a shame Dr. Dennett has reached the end of his lifetime, but he did rack up a high score of 29,973 days survived. Good work, Doc.

I won’t say RIP to Dan Bennet, because sadly the man no longer exists. He can experience neither rest nor peace nor any sentiments from the likes of us. I can only commiserate with the rest of you who are still alive over our loss of such a brilliant mind. Our world has become that much more impoverished. Let’s all be glad at our good fortune for having the benefit of his existence for a time.
Be glad dat he was rather than sad that he is no more.
@@lifeinthe80s It’s true that no one “knows”. But neither does anyone have any reason to suppose there is an afterlife. There has never been evidence, there has only ever been wishful thinking. Meanwhile, Dan himself was an atheist, and certainly didn’t ascribe to wish fulfillment fantasy. Let’s honor his memory as he would have wanted.

From the point when I heard Athiests describe "heaven" as an eternity of no free will, I was done believing in an afterlife. Hell disgusts me, but heaven is so much worse!
If heaven is populated with self-righteous Evangelicals, then it is indeed hell.
I mean… "free will" is an incoherent concept anyway.

@@wakingforbacon6439 True Florida is a leading state for book banning. A major book banning organization, Moms For Liberty, was founded in Florida and has strong ties to the Republican Party. PEN America is a major organization fighting book banning.
I love good place. I am rewatching again. It helped me get out of religion and learn about philosophy.

It was Monday 3rd June when some guy was arguing that there is no evidence that Jesus was woke lefty. I then said, there is very thin evidence that Jesus existed. Obviously, I had to gather my evidence and it led me down the David Fitzgerald rabbit hole after listening to him on The Atheist Experience. It’s been 3 days now, I’ve read Nailed, and thinking about buying the Mything in action series.
The eternal Cosmos always existed. It had no beginning or creator and it has no ending.
The eternal Cosmos does not go anywhere or come from anywhere. It is eternally present and only changes from one form into another.
Dan is the eternal cosmos going out of form.
The start of this reminds me of a conversation I had with my brother. He took a comparative religion course and on the first day the teacher, who was a pastor of some sort, said, "I know no one here believes in evolution." My brother was thinking, "Wait a minute. I believe in evolution."

This nice little chat made me think about the logic of some theists, again. I'm just wondering if they realize that, given the promise "no pain in heaven while watching your beloved people suffer in hell" is true, they will be actually More dead than the "sinners" in hell? I mean, their doctrine implies that the only chance to remain your true self is to go to hell, while in heaven you'll become a machine praising god, having no feelings for those tortured eternally, other than joy? To be fine with this, one must be either a heartless ego-centered monster, or willing to be mentally annihilated in heaven.
I was just remembering two debates Aron got into with educated individuals and got destroyed.
I would like to debate him too, but there's probably no money in it for him.

He’s a lesser evil, at worst. The true evil entity in that book is Yahweh. He sets his original creations up for failure, and then punishes not only them, but their descendants too. He orders, and personally commits all manner of atrocities against humanity for a variety of petty and capricious reasons.
