Julie Andrews' glorious voice takes us to heaven! What great renditions by the great, talented and forever beautiful Julie Andrews! This concert in Japan ought to be on DVD! Thanks for posting.
Julie Andrews, Andre Previn, and Kurt Weill , all masters of their craft and legends. They have given immeasurable joy and inspiration to generations of audiences everywhere. Thank you to these great artists for your talent and humanity!
@@kennetpon Right?! It physically pains me to think or say anything negative about the icon that is Julie Andrews, but Judy was just a level that all the greats around her time just could not touch. She truly was a once in a lifetime talent.
@@alldownhill01 Judy Garland was one of a kind. A legend. The best there was or will ever be. No one can match the emotion she puts into her performances. The light and shades of grey the nuance, light and power of every performance she does is unparalleled. Period" Her performances are literally works of living breathing art.
I dont see how or why even though she could have encompassed the same keys she used to sing in as a younger soprano, does not use her upper tones here. I mean, her voice opens up the higher she goes and yet she consciously brings down the key
Just because she could "hit the notes," it doesn't mean that the range is necessarily comfortable for her. She was nearing sixty years old here, and made a conscious decision to sing in a more comfortable key for her.
@@timlester1867 true to an extent, but within the same concert she sings Gs, Fs, F-sharps which seriously sounds incredible. I believe in a different night of the same concert she sings a high A.
Is it just me or do the descending chords at the end sound like wrong notes? I don't know how the pianist thought that sounded good. It just doesn't flow.
It sounded super cool to me. I think its a matter of taste. It was unexpected and heralded the complete and falling chromatic dissonant end to a beautiful piece of work. Maestro Previn was a hollywood composer and arranger and its a common progression when things fall down the stairs or rain trickling down...etc. I love that effect.
It is utterly tonal and beautiful. In the hands of Previn there are no wrong notes. One can go all the way to the edge of tonality and back. A great singer like her would receive any curved ball. You should listen to Betty Buckley and Kenny Werner duo. The reharmonizations of Sondheim are out there! Gorgeous.
Kurt Weill - one of my favorte composers - "Speak Low" "September Song" , often finished in a minor key. However on "My Ship" he did not. Why miss Andrews chose a minor at the end of her rendition I have no idea.
