This guy's memory is spectacular!! He remembers very specific details.... matches, dates, match scores, player's names, incidents, even the name of some random sports minister from 30 years ago in the 1990s. Tells you how mentally gifted some footballers are and what other successful careers they could have had even if football didn't work out for them.
What a team we had in Ibadan then.... Fantastic bunch....With Ogunjobi and Jossy Lad, Shuaibu.... Adamasingba was the slaughter Slab...Thanks alot Duke Udi,...Dotun, Olumide Harris, Taofik Malik, Baruwa, Lati, Baba Owoblow.... Ibadan...Thanks Elegbete..More grease!
Duke Udi was a super baller wherever- Eagles, 3SC and others. I played alongside him at Jalisco Football Field at Oshodi, Agege Motor Road. He was a master and would choose him over some so-called stars of the Eagles of those days. He played purposeful and collaborative soccer unlike those who dribbled without team purpose.
Point of correction at 5:00. Nigeria beat Egypt 3-2 in Lagos, thanks to the 2nd half rocket by Kingsley Obiekwu. We played 1-1 in Cairo and qualified on a 4-3 aggregate. If we had not scored that equalizer in Egypt, Atlanta '96 would have been a pipe dream.
@@ELEGBETETV@ELEGBETETV Go and check your records. Both matches were shown on TV. I was a university student then, not a toddler. Nigeria was drawn against Egypt in the 2nd round of the 1996 Olympic Qualifier. Two goals from Kanu Nwankwo and a 3rd rocket of a shot from Kingsley Obiekwu cancelled out goals from Mustafa and Emam. 2nd leh ended 1-1 and we qualified to face Zimbabwe in the final round on a 4-3 goals aggregate. We now beat Zimbabwe home and away 1-0 to qualify for the Olympics. Zimbabwe scored a goal in Lagos that was adjudged offside, which would have stood if there was VAR. After we qualified, we were almost disqualified by CAF due to discrepancies in Abiodun Baruwa's age. He was dropped and replaced by Joseph Dosu whose performance in the Olympics earned him the Super Eagles number 1 spot. The accident he had after a 1997 World Cup qualifier ended hhis career. I used to watch the local league in the stadium as a kid. As far back as 1984, i used to watch a 16-year old Etim Esin, Uwem Ekarika and others in the Calabar Sports Stadium. So u can guess my age. I am not a kid!
He is correct. The first leg ended 3-2 in Lagos. The second leg ended 1-1 with Ikpeba scoring the equalizer. It was the game against Kenya that ended 0-0.@@ELEGBETETV
the wickedness and greed didn't start today....today's Super Eagles would cried hell, if they get this type of critics from journalist as described by Udi. all they care for today is the praises

In 1996 how much was $20k in naira first b4 we start accusing NFA. I don't think they were cheated. What was the equivalent of 20k USD in naira back then? Am asking you people
@@ELEGBETETV You're wrong I don't believe it's upto that it's impossible bcos naira wasn't this bad then even though I will check it out. In another video we're Duke talked about Peter Odili rewarding all the players 5k USD each when the NFA gave him 200k naira a commenter said USD was 115 naira then in 2001. So 1996 should be below that amount You're quoting here because we all know how subsequent regimes and Obsanjo pulled Nigerian economy back after Abacha's demise. I'm going to research on it
@@ELEGBETETV ok I just checked. You're right But Duke Udi being a Nigerian who knows how Nigeria works should have removed his mind from the money then, play along with them corrupt officials until he gains his grounds fully because he was truly a good baller

That wasn't a good decision at all because Bonfere was the U23 team coach then who went to become Super Eagles coach in 1998 world cup, for the coach to be taking you to clubs to get him signed up shows he believes in the player's abilities and the little sacrifices he could have done was to endure and as he's enduring he's always sure to be getting national call ups because the coach got his back. He made many bad decisions that affected his career because all those senior players he mentioned also paid their dues before they reached those heights but will never talk about it because it's of no use to talk about it because it favored them. Most of those senior players never got it on a platter of gold too, they had prices to pay when they were upcoming. Bye bye 👋

20,000 dollars as at 1996 was not more than 1 million naira.
It was 1.6 million naira in the open market sir

Nigeria vs Egypt was 3:2. Kanu scored 2 goals and Kingsley Obiekwu a long range free kick.
