Making 200,000 a year and still living check to check. Living above their means. Gotta have the biggest house, financing cars etc. Get a comfortable modest home, BUY your car and live. You can make 50,000 a year and still be saving 3,000 a month, if you live simple and comfortable. Not lavish! I appreciate what this brother does. Very informational!

Recently bought some recommended stocks and now they are just penny stocks. There seems to be more negative portfolios in the last 3rd half of 2023 with markets tumbling, soaring inflation, and banks going out of business. My concern is how can the rapid interest-rate hike be of favor to a value investor, or is it better avoiding stocks for a while?

Very true, you can be passively involved in the markts and still amass wealth-gains using an investment advisor. I first dabbled in stocks late 2019, just before the pandemic, and that same year gained over 150% with no prior investing experience, basically all I was doing was following directions of my advisor. I have some money back in stock market again (had it in CDs for a while). I have some in FTEC and some in VOO (not SPLG). Some are in a few other ETFs too but not in real estate sector. Read about Dalio's all weather portfolio and about commodities, and thought to myself that FMAT is as far as I go there. It is a rinky dink amount compared to the CD's and money market for now but I am slowly trickling small amounts in the ETFs each month.

Richard , love when you talk about discipline when it comes to investing, when you say to invest in index funds , but you often brake the golden rule when it comes to real long term investing, DO NOT chase the performance and the latest trends. Did you forget about tech bubble of late 90'S ? time to get back to drawing board. For others, don not listen too much the random guy on UA-cam, VTSAX and VXUS , BND and chill.
The market has returned poorly over long periods too. One being from 2000- 2010. The hit in 2000 and 2008 took many years to rebound from staying in the market. I stay invested but there can be long periods of overall bad avg returns.
While that is true, this is a long game. It will average itself out in due time. Over 30 years that will definitely be between 7 and 10%. I've looked this up myself before. You will definitely be able to go from a 100k investment to 680k-800k (before removing taxes), in 30 years.
I have $50k to put into S&P 500 from my bond funds which aren’t growing enough. Would you put it all in at once or dollar cost average?

My experience with Fundrise was not good…lost a lot from what I put in…then when I cashed out the interest started going up…be advised it take 3-4 months to get your money back when u decide to cash out or close ur account…I tried it out…but it’s not my cup of tea.. hopes this helps u
Investing in my opinion depends on your age... lifestyle...and most importantly what are your plans and what do you want to accomplish in the market me personally for example I don't like getting up in the morning going to work that alone is why im interested in the market and invest constantly im 40 years old and have been investing for 2 solid years If I can do two more to a total of 4i will match my wages at 44/45 years old mind you I focus on moderately higher risk stocks 50% the newer income stock the other traditional stocks it has worked for me so far my thinking is if the market crashes every one in the market would lose so time is not on my side and I understand this so I need a bit more risk to get to my goal good luck to everyone....
