- What is Valorant? I played Riot's new Counter-Strike competitor Valorant in the Alpha Playtest, here's everything you need to know about the game from a CS:GO player's perspective. Join me on / warowl on April 3rd and 7th to get Closed Beta key drops.

maybe that's why they didn't include custom maps, so they can release it themselves
The movement speed in this game looks a bit slower than Cs or Overwatch, maybe thats why the shooting feels easier

Some people find it fun to get the highest k/d possible, some people play to get the most wins possible, some people play to get the most kills, some people play to complete all the challenges, some people play to get the highest rank possible, some people ignore all of that and just play the game. All of those people find that way of playing the game fun. Whereas you probably don't find all of them fun.

I agree but that's really the only major flaw of this game everything else can be fixed relatively quickly and considering it's not League of legend's development team it's VALORANT I'm assuming the issues will get patched out much faster then in league since the VALORANT client isn't a potato client like league's was and sadly still is.

I like the twists in the gameplay and the graphics, but the toughest point for me is the closed-off community approach. Where would we as cs players be without 24/7 dust2 noawp noauto, jailbreak, and all those alternative play types that let you have a breather from the sUpEr iNtEnSe eSpOrTs dRiVeN cOmpETiTiVe gAmEpLaY?

90% of the CS community does not partake in almost any community servers. 10% of hundreds of thousands is tens of thousands. Still lots of people, but a minority compared to the rest of the player base.
EDIT: I'm not saying that community servers are bad, I love them, but I'm just pointing out that a game can unequivocally survive and be successful without them. CS GO could have them shut down and resume at almost the exact same pace as it was

3:07 the good old days when Jett was considered "weak" now she is one of the strongest if not strongest agent in the game the crazy thing is that they didn't buff her (except one buff were they increased her smoke duration from 4 seconds to 7) but they reversed this change last patch so it's the same old Jett but just people now know how strong she is

@@DragonHalo3D It depends, some people are just faster learners. I for the most part have to put in hours and learn the game from the bottom up before i'm any decent, but it seems I have a lot more headroom for improving, and find it easier than my friends to improve. If me and my friend group move over to Valorant, for instance. My friends would perform better than me at first, but as time went on i'd overtake them. It's just how us humans are hardwired.
At first I was like "nah I'll stick to Counter-Strike thank you" but the way you describe it make me kinda hype.

CS sucked for quite a while now. Still no 128tick mm and somhow they still haven't fixed Krieg. Hopefully some competition in Valorant will make Valve pick up their pace at fixing their damn game.

8:37 - This is my biggest complaint with modern games. Custom servers and maps increase the lifespan of games infinitely and allow the community to make any change they want rather than wait for the devs to do it. Titanfall 2 is a good example. It's a source engine game with bunnyhopping and great movement mechanics but there wasn't enough variety in terms of maps and game modes.
but one of the longest standing games that riot has put out (LoL), has been consistently keeping a huge playerbase while having no custom maps or mods or anything - 1 main map and another 2/3 maps which change
@@dxdadown tbh i feel like down the road they're gonna make a workshop thing like overwatch. Not unlimited freedom but still able to do fun things, especially with the amount of abilities that are gonna be in this game
Thought I'd let you know that Titanfall 2 has a community made mod tools kit that'll let you make custom gauntlets and etc called the icepick. Also TF2 had a good variety of modes, some of which should have been permanent (MFD, Aegis Brawl) or put in a permanent moshpit playlist at least. The maps it did lack in a bit but most players assume that's purely bc of the games reception not being perfect, it still has more than enough considering most player retention in TF2 comes from skill ceiling alone.
No ranked killed Titanfall. I'll never understand their decision not to include ranked. Ranked doesn't deter casual players, they don't have to play it. The progression system was absolute ass, I'm supposed to prestige over and over again for a titan camo? Serious players need a way to measure their progress and a reason to continue playing, and Titanfall 2 didn't give it to us. My favorite fps engine by far, still.
Nokami Gaming absolute bs response my friend. Ranked hardly saved TF1, and TF2 is poorly competitively viable. The respawn backed competitive ruleset as made by the community and used in respawn supported tournaments doesn't really feel perfect. The meta shifts way too hard to make the melee mechanic less broken than is, and the ordanances and abilities have to highlander partitioned to fit the game. Grapple is also broken and unfair by a long shot, and can break ctf easily. Considering how they balanced TF2 I doubt respawn could have done a ranked without the community. Tf2 just had a rough launch and took too long for ps+ or any other free service, and the biggest issue is there is no real tutorial. I have played the gauntlet and campaign a bajillion times, but it's not as intuitive as some would think. The majority of players never properly utilise movement or learn how to, and for players who don't get a crack cocaine addiction to the gameplay can easily feel burned out despite having barely touched the surface of the game.

Damn. I’m not a hater or anything but it REALLY is Counter Strike: Overwatch. From gameplay to graphics.
I would argue with you ... In Overwatch everything is too bright and there are a lot of details that overload the atmosphere and prevent concentration. Their design is TOO cartoony. They also have unnatural body proportions, swollen asses and long legs ... in Valoran there are natural proportions, there is blood and there are no bright colors that enrage

Yes, she was crooked and smoothly corrected, like a sketch of a picture. There are simply 3D models on which textures are superimposed, which do not rest on excessive shadows.
The visibility part alone sells it to me, cs has been hell for my colorblind ass since they brought in the playerskins.

Half the negative comments about this game on anyones channel are from kiddies who value graphics over gameplay. Kind of sad. Those very same people will bitch day in and day out about how every other game that releases nowadays is a broken mess or just a soulless heap of garbage. Honestly, Warowl is the one person in the CS community I trust to actually give this game a fair shake, this game has reminded me much more of CS than OW since I saw it but the community really wants to deny how similar they are.
I don't think anyone is denying that they have taken ideas from other games and fused into one game. But they did it with a good core game design, gameplay and code also they went out their way to fix a lot of the mistakes of those games like the cheating in csgo for which they made a special anti cheat, they made it so even if the opponent is lagging his movement is upscaled to server speed so he doesn't teleport, all the servers will be 128 tick insted of 64 tick like csgo mm servers, they fixed the visual mess that happens in overwatch so it is obvious the core game is good but of course some of the things can be bad but the game is still in beta. I just don't get why this game is getting so much hate from people just because it is a csgo competitor but people need to realize that cs has survived through a lot like the new type of games and genres like br and "meta" shifts so even if some players to go over to thay game its obviously not gonna "kill csgo".
Its because the CS comunity have a lot of problems with GO, but they dont want it replaced, they want it fixed.
They fear this game can actually be good and riot games is easy to hate because cs players have little to no respect towards moba players (maybe because they are jealous of how valve tends to care more about dota than cs?) so they pick on every little detail to hate, wich i find hilarious because personally i dont think this game has any chance of killing cs, at most it can get a solid 2nd place.

As much as the gameplay looks fun, I feel like the game is gonna have similar problems like every other game that locks off their modification and community based features. It will get old. Eventually, maybe not in a month or year, but eventually I dont feel like this game will stand the test of time.

Riot wont let this game get old, just look at league of legends and tft. Those games have seasons/sets that changes the metagame after 6 months or a year so the game stays alive
I'm sure there are going to be updates with new maps eventually. As you see, Riot learns from mistakes of other companies. I don't think they will just sit and watch the game get old.

Mechanically, the game seems interesting but I worry about long term issues. Hero-style gameplay often suffers from balancing issues over time because they seem to be so focused on what abilities can do to change the base mechanics. Gunplay may seem to be the primary focus early on because the hero quantity is lower but in ways to monetize the game and maintain the free-2-play market's attention, they'll start to shift their priorities over to content over quality.
I simply don't like hero-style games because the tactics get so over saturated and it devolves into a flavor of the month style gameplay/balancing. And then there's having to memorize all the sounds.....
We are talking abou a huge company riot, they should have enough people focused on both things
Yeah TF2 is basically the only one of those that I like, because they haven't added a new class since launch (technically since Quake Team Fortress in 1996,) and there are no "abilities," just weapons and stats.
These games too often devolve into constant balance patches and complaints about balance. It's also much better if people don't have to learn what every character does before they can start properly playing.
i wouldnt worry about that since riot is really experienced with hero based gameplay(from league of legends) and while they had their completely broken stuff in the past they are really good at it at the moment and the game is very balanced right now

@@henryambrose8607 this is assumption but seeing how warowl, a person going into this with only basic knowledge of the game can frag out without knowing sound ques, etc, it doesnt seem like this game is gonna be big on character selection balance and more on gun balance like csgo, the abilities are not a key component of the game. You dont have to know about characters and abilities to frag out

I’m glad that it’s good, because it means valve would actually have to compete for players, which means they have to work on things they’ve been lazy with like 128 tick, new maps, etc. I seriously doubt it’d damage Counter Strike’s player base, but the competition it could provide is always a good thing.

As a noob i don't expect most people to see jack shit differences. But on faceit 10 vs mm Global. I take faceit 128 tick anyday, where stupid kills don't happen.
Nabs can't pull off crisp shots anyway, so i don't really expect them to notice a difference.

I'm going to call it right here. Next counter strike will be a hero shooter. You can play as the chick with the AWP, the black guy with the m249, or the skinny kid with the nova. They are fleshing out the story of Counter Strike (think about the red missile things in the danger zone or the most recent "story" mission, think about all the operators with the funny and unique looks they added from shattered web, think about Naomi, Valeria, Kreigeld, etc.).
I don't actually think I am going to be right about this prediction, but if I'm right? Damn. Well, leaving this here for posterity. If I'm right, I'm pointing here and saying "I told you so."

@@jsnxww TL;DR: Them getting personal info and making a good anticheat system doesn't require kernel level access.
Them collecting data is at the bottom of the list with my concerns. They don't need kernel level access to do that. Every anticheat you look at already scans you processes for debuggers, memory dump programs, cheats, and some look at your internet connection for remote access as well. (Some aimbots are used VIA remote access so the anticheat doesn't pick it up)
1) The anticheat in Valorant and soon LoL has top level access to your computer meaning it can execute anything and change anything without you even knowing. RIOT has said it was look at by security teams but never stated which ones. (Which means they went to the cheapest people who hardly know anything)[Ex: Masterlock, they say their high security locks are pick resistant and was checked by independent labs but can be opened in about 15 seconds]
2) It is ALWAYS running. Every other anticheat only runs when the game is running. Why does it always have to keep running when I'm not playing the game?
3) Sooner or later there is going to be a security breach.
@@GrumpyIan Until point 1 (the part about hiring the cheapest people to test) and 3 are proven, you have no case. Do you know significant amounts about the anticheat field? How do you know that they can accomplish the same task without the same level of access. Feel free to explain it to me if you do know but I imagine that you are just guessing.

Do people really feel this way? I feel the opposite, I have played CSGO since 2014 and I've never once felt the urge to play a custom map besides the likes of aim_botz or aim training maps, which this game has built-in anyway

Even if something crazy op is discovered, as we’ve seen with LOL riot is extremely quick and non-hesitant to patch. This of course may make the ability/character meta go all over the place, but I do not think it will be that big of a deal because of how important gunplay and core mechanics are
I really hope that they change their minds on the custom mapping thing. I absolutely love making maps for games but the hammer editor falls short of being a decent editor

It’s been two years WHERE IS THE REPLAY SYSTEM?!?!?!
Thing is, I love CS. The imperfections that I want them to fix, are just that--things I want fixed IN CS. The Source Engine, with all of its ancient luggage, is what makes CS what it is, and what makes me love it. Unless the movement feels like a smoother version of Source movement, I don't think I'll ever consider it a replacement for CS. It'll join the other games on my list of things I play when I'm not playing CS.
But even if I love it, that closed off community thing is a no-go as well.

Attrocious character design, ass animations, boring enviornments set with a gimmicks on each map and so on. The gameplay displayed by pros makes it look boring as fuck even. Just corner camping and watching traps. Its really sad when even shroud, seagull, aceu and so on makes this a snorefest to watch.

But in case of Valorant, the slow movement was intended by the dev to encourage players to focus more on utility (or skills) usage rather than buy a gun , rush through the map and outplayed other players with lower skill. Looks weird to me as well but overall the game looks decent. I mean, it looks atrocious to watch at the moment but the gameplay is probably a good median between casual and competitive. Will it be a CS killer? Unlikely. Will people easily spend 2000 hrs like on CS. Probably not but it could be quite entertaining for sure.

Hey, I notice you have some acoustic panels in your recording area, if you want to take more advantage of these, perhaps move the microphone closer to your face, and reduce the gain. You will get more of your voice, and less of the reverberations of the room. Although if this is not practical for you then that's understandable, still sounds good regardless!
i think one thing i would have liked to hear you talk about is the sound design, whether the weapons sound noticeably different from one another, how well the 3D sound is, like can u tell where an enemy is exactly by their footsteps, how far does are footsteps audible from etc, other than that thank you for the incite you have provided us with i enjoyed it. have not played the game yet looking to play it in the near future

I kinda really like the map gimmicks. Every map is unique and making plays really felt impactful when you waited in a teleporter till they let down their gaurd or took full control of mid in split.

If you've got an Nvidia graphics card and have geforce experience installed you can use alt+F3 in-game to enable colourblind settings in other games that don't directly support it.
game already has sort of colourblind highlighiting of enemies in settings now

As I've never played Overwatch to me this seems more like what Apex did to BRs. Take what's good (movement and shooting mechanics) and add a little twist to it (abilities). Excited to try it out sometime.
Very early on people made the OW comparison. I see much more r6 then OW. The bow he talked about is similar to OW, but that kind of thing is all over R6. The character war owl said he liked has a camera which is similar to r6, one character also has a drone (I think the one with a bow) which is also all in r6.

Looks interesting, strategic, and fun, but I’m a ragdoll physics man, and one of the best things about hero shooters is watching all these uniquely designed, fleshed out characters like Dr. McGenius Visionary do the splits on a railing after getting blasted by a shotgun as they fall onto a grenade and do somersaults. Definitely hurts it for me not to see it. Yes, I’m that petty.

In addition to all the valid points brought up in the comments: judging from the visuals that where presented, without having played the game, i think the weapons look very unsatisfying, lacking the stimulation that firing a weapon in other games gives you. You don't really see any recoil, there's no big bang sounds, the muzzle flash is tiny, there's barely any kickback animation. It's like every weapon was counterstrikes MP5.
@mcmuffin6o No, I don't like "excessive" muzzle flash, I just like to feel like I'm actually shooting a firearm, not an airsoft gun. When there's hardly any visible kickback, or muzzle flash for that matter, I'd say the devs just didn't do a god job when designing those animations. In the games video he's emptying a whole magazine of an assault rifle, but it's not loud, it doesn't kick, it hardly enhances the spray, it just doesn't behave like a gun does. It looks more "clean" if you'd like, but even the glock in cs looks and feels more powerful than that.

I'm not sure if hero shooters work for me, but I'd be willing to try it out if it ran on my system. My complaint about the animation design has nothing to do with the gameplay itself.
This may not be a military shooter, but they're still firing actual weapons, with gunpowder and all that, so I think my point still stands.
