I'm a latecomer to the Great Lake Swimmers but I've become a huge fan. I was drawn to their folk/bluegrass influenced melodies, but I admire that they don't settle and try different styles and experimentation - a great band - underrated
Everytime someone asks me 'Suggest me some good artists to listen to', Great Lake Swimmers will always be on my list of recommendations. What amazing talent and soul ❤
First track amazing - Incredulous harmony and acoustic depth. The lead ins or beginnings of each song - and the bass solo at 23:00 and drum at 18:00 - are also the best parts of this group. Love her voice too at 22:00. The violin Quartet is the icing on the cake - love especially the video parts panning them. Also I like "I Became Awake" - not part of this concert. You guys are welcome to Carolina any time - wow.
Saw these guys last spring at the Arts and Culture Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland. It was amazing to listen to them live, after years of only hearing them online and on record.
Why would people downvote this? Great Lake Swimmers are one of my hard favourites. Will never forget the pleasure of seeing them live in Columbus many a moon ago. A very intimate show and unfortunately in a boisterous bar and totally respected when they apologized that their sound and vibe could not compete with disrespectful “party goers.”
Nice footage. "Put there by the Land" should've been, at the least, a minor hit in North America. The problem is that the Katy Perry's and Jessica Simpson's of the world are pushed to the top of the music industry just showing their tits and smiling. In effect, the popularity or success slots reserved for bands like Great Lake Swimmers gets filled by the likes of a Katy Perry or on the male side a Justin Bieber (both of whom aren't really musically competent). For all their love, The Beatles rise in popularity absolutely marked the end of high quality musicians getting respect and money. The crazy thing is that modern society is actually mirroring the problems of the music industry

Me too! About a year ago. Hi from Tasmania.

Let's not kid ourselves, Katy Perry and Jessica Simpson do/did have the best racks in the business.
