This was a really fun video. I just went to Goldspot and ordered the pen and ink. I'm a sucker for coffee. I'm a sucker for pens. I'm a sucker for dark academia. The three together? I don't have a chance. Thanks for such a fun and illuminating channel.
Great show! As a horror fan, I liked your shout out to one of my favorite movies, “Cabin in the Woods”! Have you seen “Frankenstein” by Montegrappa? Do you plan to have a show about that? Btw, I do remember that old Oscar Meyer commercial. I’m a Beatles fan, too.
Thank you again, HJ! The ink you received is very beautiful! I am very much into dark green/teals ❤️ And, I'm one of those people that doesn't like coffee. It might be a good thing though because i tend to get addictions easily. I appreciate you don't talk about politics! Better keep it to pens, inks and inspiration. There's so much happening in the world, it's easy to get into nasty discussions about it all. So thank you for that too! Have a great week!
I would absolutely LOVE that idea of yours where you discuss shakespear on a separate channel. To be honest you could discuss books, poetry, philosophy, just about anything and I would fall totally in love with it.
After seeing you discuss the Wearingeul Lovecraft Cthulhu ink, my wife Karmen thought we should try it, and lo, it arrived today. I’m so glad you brought it to our attention, because we both love it already. I coupled it with my brand new TWSBI Diamond 580 ALR, and I’m a happy camper. I was actually looking for a new green to complement the ones we already have (Private Reserve Spearmint and Avacado, and Pilot Iroshizuku Shin-Ryoku), and while Cthulhu at first glance seems to have something in common with Shin-Ryoku (cool green, red sheen, nice shading), this appears darker, has more blue (being a teal), and might have more “depth”. I think I’m going to enjoy writing with this ink very much. Thanks again Hemingway Jones!
One of these days I must try and catch a live! What a great ink colour. I haven't tried Wearingeul yet but I have been very tempted thanks to all those literary themed inks. If you do ever make a second channel based around Shakespeare or literature in general, I would absolutely watch. I'm always eyeing those bookshelves behind you in your videos with interest.
I have to thank you. I recently designed and made a desk for myself. As I was building it, I think your style influenced me. Not in actual design. But developing it in my own classy, unique character. Thanks for the relaxing times. Your channel is a nice place to go.
Again, unable to be with everyone live, but very enjoyable with my Wed. AM coffee. Interesting Retro, glad they are back into Fountain Pens. I think the OMAS Oscar Meyer title would have been great. Thanks for another great corner of the Internet. Can’t wait to see the OMAS review.
While there are many inks that are quite homogeneous and never require turning over or "shaking", there are also many modern inks - not just shimmer inks - that do require being stirred a bit before filling the pen. It's not just the water proof inks which have components that have a tendency to separate, but also mixed colors from different dyes, where the dyes may have much different molecule weights, hygro-affinity or whatever the differences that cause it may be, so it's a good habit to turn over the bottle a couple of times. That ink reminds me of Pelikan 4001 Blue Black (which is quite green), but it's stronger, like as if the blue black had been drying out in the pen for some time.
I really like Retro 51 fountain pens. I recently received the War of the Roses House of York UK exclusive as a gift to mark 10 years cancer free & it’s quickly become a favorite. For what it’s worth, I got a stub, and it writes better than some other Jowo stubs I’ve tried, which surprised me. I love the weight of the pen & the beautiful design.
Another fine video! That ink looks similar to Diamine Aurora Borealis. Cool limited edition coffee-themed pen! Price? I watched the video with Helen twice. I'd love to get her opinion of the HongDian M2 pocket fountain pen in comparison to the Kaweco Sport. Might make a nice short video. I love your ink library! Which notebook do you use?
Hello Hemingway! Another great live stream! The pen is kind of neat, and that ink is VERY interesting! You are a WISE man to eliminate politics from your channel! More conflicts have been caused by politics and Religion over the history of mankind than anything else!! We are all here to nerd out over fountain pens, ink & etc. And, also, to have fun! Can hardly wait for Friday's video!
I didn't catch the live, I wasn't feeling great and was sleeping. I am glad that you caught Godzilla Minus One! I really like the Retro 51 fountain pens, I love my Pooh version, but this coffee time looks nice.
I only have one shimmer ink I use at Christmas. I can’t be trusted to clean pens like that! Also have the habit that the first part of inking a pen is searching pens that use the same converters for the one or two converters that I move between all my pens.
I’ve never been there, but it looks very nice. Why not? I’m sure you’ll be over by there. I’m sorry to do this, but here are some of my must s do items there: Cordings of Piccadilly - most of my wardrobe comes from there. Pop in and you’ll go, there’s Hem! Cecil Ct - Book stores and so amazing. St. John Restaurant. Visit Turner’s Fighting Temeraire in the Nat’l Gallery. Pre-Raphaelites in the Tate Britain. Floris - No. 89 was worn by the book version of James Bond. Dishoom in Covent Garden has great Indian Food and stupendous cocktails! And of course, Nando’s! Enjoy!
Love your videos Mr Jones! I just wanted to say thank you for not ever getting political. I miss the days when it was rude to talk politics. Keep up the good work my friend. Also Godzilla minus one is fantastic, and the first movie I have bought in probably 8 years.
I was pleased to hear that you are “messy” with inky fingers and such. We pen collectors don’t need a secret hand shake, just look at each other’s fingers. Glad to know you’ll be at the Commonwealth Pen Show as well. Hopefully we’ll finally meet! Probably a wise decision to keep politics, religion and profanity outside the channel, something I don’t do, but it’s fun watching the fur fly when refereeing the discussion in the live chat. Not sure I’m as impartial as I could be, though. And I think sketching is a good thing to do as you chat live, rather than writing actual sentences. Like rubbing your tummy and patting your head at the same time. Though I haven’t read Lovecraft, I love listening to audiobooks I’d his work. I think you’d like the descriptive words he uses to to create a scene of horror. Check it out. Lastly, good idea to avoid the shimmering inks.
No one said anything about profanity! 😂 actually, I am usually pretty clean, except for the blooper reels! Thanks for watching and see you at the Commonwealth!
Ah, sorry, “vulgar” is what you said with respect to “poopy-tray”, ha. Not exactly sure how the French would say it, but I’d guess it was “poo-pee-trah” with a purring roll of the R and a barely audible “ah” sound in the back of the throat. I’m sure someone will correct both our vulgarities!
I am persistantly thinking that this ink and Robert Oster Signature River of Fire are really close. On HJ's camera, I did not detect (maybe me) sheen on his Clairfontane. My RoF ink does not sheen on Rhodia but does so epically on original Tomoe River, and ok on Sacke (sp) Tomoe River (clone?). HJ and other reviewers that watch this channel, could you try CoC on TR?
Appreciate your comments about politics. It'll be good to have an oasis of inkiness away from the rough and tumble of the political scene. I do have a strong interest in politics, and occasionally let it drift into my posts. In fact, I know that one of my first responses on your channel was a comment about Churchill. But I'll try to behave myself during this contentious election season, both this side of the pond, and on yours.
I just think it shouldn’t stain everything. I’m not sure discussing Churchill is politics. He has been gone for 60 years. That’s history. You’re always a pleasure to see in the comments.
My feeling on politics is that it means more UA-cam advertising money. Otherwise, viewers of my channel have to pick up my political opinions by context and accidental clues. And if I wade into anything controversial, I try really hard to stay to the facts.
I think some people feel more comfortable than others. I speak about pens and want to leave it at that. I think non political spaces are definitely getting harder to find. It seems to permeate everything. Plus I feel like there is something in my opinions to disappoint everyone.
Waski, your general leanings may show from time to time, but you do make an effort to maintain fairness, which I appreciate. I know I would be more outspoken on *REDACTED* and *REDACTED*, and especially *REDACTED*, but your common sense and empathetic approach are probably more productive 😀

Thank you so much for being here and for watching! It means a lot.
Great video and show! Missed the beginning last night so rewatched it. Appreciate the no politics policy. It’s all about pens and writing.
Hear, hear! Thanks so much! I am glad you enjoyed it.
I would absolutely LOVE that idea of yours where you discuss shakespear on a separate channel. To be honest you could discuss books, poetry, philosophy, just about anything and I would fall totally in love with it.

Just finished Hamlet! I will avoid nitpicking that Yuric was 'capless' that is missing the lower jaw.

This has a hint of red in it too that I couldn’t see with the lighting until after. Very nice ink.
