Actually orcas can catch tunas (yes, not easily like you said, but they can). There’s a famous scientific article on how they do it. Google: ‘Killer whale predation on bluefin tuna: exploring the hypothesis of the endurance-exhaustion technique’. Orcas have greater endurance than tunas. They will keep swimming behind and catch up once tuna exhausts itself. Then they will corral the tuna in groups, that’s how orca pods operate. Remember, orcas are extremely intelligent. It’s like cape hunting dogs going after much faster animals like impalas and Thompson gazelles. The dogs can run for mile and miles and miles…eventually catching up to the tired prey. So yes, orcas do hunt and eat tuna without human interference.

Not the worst thought, but cetaceans have extraordinary hearing and intelligence. They'd quickly realize what's going on. Plus, what they're hearing is the winch/line's vibrations from the boat's hull, under pressure from raising a fish fighting against the motor. You'd have to somehow perpetually haul in a robot fish that emulated a tuna's behaviour, and something tells me these guys aren't about to fork out to get one of those built :)

The thing about Orcas is that they can be pretty brutal. Often they’ll kill something and then only eat the vital organs and then just leave the rest of the body to rot. They do it all the time with sharks. Scavengers obviously eventually eat it all though. They probably do the same thing here with the tuna. They’ll eat the vital organs and the belly meat (otoro) which is the fattiest and by far the most valuable. I mean their most natural food source are seals and they’re just a big lump of fat. That’s what Orcas like the best.

You do realize that tuna fish is worth more than silver right? (About $358 USD per pound for Bluefin tuna and about $178 USD per pound for silver)
Note: This is just the top prices. It would probably be cheaper depending on the tuna but it’s still a very profitable industry

I found it interesting that the orca started picking fish off these fishermen over thirty years ago.
Here in the Niagara Peninsula, where most species of birds no longer fly south for "winter",
they have started eating fruits from orchards that they never fed on before.
With the disappearance of insects, I see birds climbing up under cars to eat them from the radiators.
If birds are coming into the city to eat dead and dried insects from cars, you know it's getting worse.

It is suspected that some of these fishermen may have fought back and have injured some of the Orcas. It is also suspected that these animals that follow the tuna on their migration could be the same groups of Orcas that seem to have engaged in encounters with sailing vessels reported alongside the coast of Portugal and northern Spain during Summer 2020. These encounters were called "attacks" because the animals damaged some sailing boats' rudders. I am sailing these waters too, but haven't seen any Orcas yet, and I am also not keen, seeing the same situation during summer 2021. These usually mostly unharming animals were seen unusually close to the boats, and some did use their body strength to "ram" the underwater structures of some boats, which has damaged the rudders and shaken the vessels, some of which were weighing several tons, turning them 180 degrees off course - and certainly frightened their crews.
However, who was there first, Orcas, or men?

This is up in atlantic Canada in the gulf of St. Lawrence . If you have a license to catch bluefins here the fishermen are only allowed to take one tuna per license per season. That's a good conservation way of regulating an endangered species. On fisherman up here caught a 1400 pounder back in the 70s.
