Lol at slow rolling that Crucible pick. You totally had me. You're going thru the other cards one by one and I'm like "what am I missing? Why is it not windmill slam crucible? WHY AM I BAD AT MAGIC?" lololol ya got me
The Moment where he was creating one by one the Titania tokens and then he suddenly realized that he was also generating mana was so funny and good to watch 😂
28:00 the entire time I was thinking LSV missed making enough 5/3s to be able to cast torsten, especially when he didn't tap cradle in response to the parallax wave trigger on titania, but I guess he still had exactly enough mana incidentally at the end, truly the instincts of a pro tour champion haha
Yeah I was like yelling at my screen that he could cast Titania AND Torsten and watching him stumble into making just enough 5/3s to still do it was both painful and hilarious.
I love these videos so much that I joined the discord and started drafting with all the cool people in there! I’d definitely recommend it to anyone considering it!
For some reason I've set up a rivalry in my head with LSV being against sandydog. I know they are both very complete players, but I feel like they love 2 different sides of the game the most. It's all wrong I know they're both very complete players and friends, but it does make me more excited for the LSV v sandydog when they are in same draft. The nemesis matchup. EDIT: That birds brought me back to the days of playing fires and armadillo cloaking my bird after sideboarding against tefers.
At 36:22 we could have fetched a tapped strip mine, sac it to orb and replay it with ramunap to prevent the dog from reaching 5 lands. I don't know if we knew that he had from the catacombs in his deck, but maybe it was still reasonable anyway ? Awesome content btw
This was absolutely the play. With only a Snuff Out in hand and a Tar Pit threatening to take back the monarchy, there's not really any good reason to not strip mine here. Even without knowing exactly Catacombs, every additional mana unlocks an incredible swathe of options in vintage cube.
9:13 It's like people think all Kinnan does is combo with monolith. That card also just makes all your other ramp, ramp you harder. If he took Kinnan it would make hard cast Torsten legit as well as Spiral and the Upheaval (if that somehow wheels) insane.
we call sandy "lsv's nemesis" for a reason. 😂if sandy's reading here i SO want to see you storming off (maybe you did but it didn't show up in these videos, who knows) and crush one of lsv's value decks!
The more MTG content I watch, the more I wish something was done about the mana system. I understand it does a lot of good things, but across all kinds of different formats, there are just so many non-games because someone floods or is screwed. That can be a "feature" when there is a huge disparity in the player skill, which gives newbies a chance to win, but when the skill levels are even it feels so dumb. Having said that, when I recently taught my son magic, the times when he was flooded/screwed and I was not were hard to explain to him why it was "a good thing actually". I understand we have decades of meta-discussion around the game that would likely lose some relevance if the mana system was tweaked in any way that addresses these issues. I understand that lots of other games have tried to "fix" the mana system and usually end up worse as a result. Still, it feels like there has to be something better than this. My suggestion would be starting with something minor, but that could scale up if the effect was positive. Perhaps: "Each player starts with one basic land of their choice in the command zone, when the player would draw a card, they can instead draw this card from their command zone instead." Just a minor bump to the consistency in mana bases. In your deck, you either keep your mana ratio the same and have much less chance of mana screw, or cut 1-2 lands and have much less chance of mana flood. My gut says the most satisfying number for this would be2 or maybe even 3 basic lands, but again, starting with the minimum viable change and seeing if that makes the situation better, and could scale from there. Three would probably start having much more impact on deck construction. Obviously things like Belcher and Oops All Spells would jump with joy, but also low to the ground aggro decks would probably experiment with drastically lower land counts. I think all of that would end up fine though. A couple combo decks getting better is not a reason to not make a huge number of magic games better. Given time, I think the meta would balance out even if aggro decks get to trim a lot of their manabase out.
16:00 I'd be interested to know why the Ravages of War wasn't in consideration? With Titiania, Crucible, Ramunap, Tracker, Exploration, and 3 mana dorks I think I might've taken the Ravages, but Luis didn't even mention it.
I'd have loved to see Omnath in this deck. He had all the fixing in the world, and still had opportunities to pick up even more! Would have been a fun addition, but I'm not sure it would have made the deck appreciably better.
i would have taken prismatic over snuff out, both are good for different reasons but prismatic is in the color you are already playing and even works well with the triomes without needing them as much as snuff out
Is Sylvan Safekeeper that much worse than Zuran Orb? Seems like it would be better in a lot of spots. Lots of key components to protect and also a creature for the seven drop.
I think it's noticeably worse for a couple reasons. For one, it's G instead of 0 to cast. That's a big difference already. It's also a creature, which is much easier to interact with. The actual ability is a bit of a wash in my opinion, since Zuran Orb is good against a more assertive/aggressive deck, and Safekeeper is better against a more removal oriented deck. Neither help much against counterspell/hand disruption, so do you care more about staying alive or protecting your creatures? And keep in mind, in a deck like this, most of your creatures are small, mana generators themselves, so you're most vulnerable to sweepers, which Safekeeper doesn't stop, and dies to itself. Zuran Orb definitely seems like the pick between the two to me.
@@Athrolaxle I'd run Safekeeper just as a backup Zuran Orb. Orb is so strong with Titania and/or Crucible and/or Ramunap that I feel like it merits having two of the effect. You're right that it makes you fold harder to sweepers but it's at least as resilient to spot removal as Orb is, given it can use its ability to protect itself.
@@Athrolaxle Oh I definitely would run Orb over Safekeeper myself if I had to chose. I'm just wondering why it wasn't even a consideration as a redundant piece. Especially since he got so excited about opening Orb. Seems like the effect is important enough in the deck to run both.
I think having DT was enough redundancy. If you don't have the combo, it's another fairly dead card, and it's one that costs mana to put in play, and that you can't really put into play before being ready to go off. My take (as a wildly worse player than LSV) is that it is just that much worse when you already have that role filled.@@muchograndeyolatengo
The difference wrt spot removal is that you're sacrificing lands to save it before doing so is beneficial, and the 1 mana is still a cost to holding it until you have the combo. Also, DT is also a second copy of Zuran Orb, so a third that is a completely dead draw for a good portion of the game is a real cost as well. I don't think it's just objectively wrong to get Safekeeper in there, but I feel like (and LSV seems to estimate as well) it just makes your deck too much worse when it isn't comboing to be drawing another totally dead card that you have to sacrifice material to protect for the upside, when in reality it's the third such effect in a 40 card deck (even considering DT can get other pieces).@@anosmianAcrimony
Day 431 of me cringing at all the Initiative cards. The repetitive play pattern and slow inevitability seems so antithetical to Vintage cube shenanigans. Sweet deck though LSV.
Uh yeah? Elvish Mystic is so much better than Joraga Treespeaker. Why would you ever take Treespeaker over Mystic? I can't think of a single reason to do so, under any circumstances.
Lol at slow rolling that Crucible pick. You totally had me. You're going thru the other cards one by one and I'm like "what am I missing? Why is it not windmill slam crucible? WHY AM I BAD AT MAGIC?" lololol ya got me
I have no idea why but Crucible of Worlds is one of my favourite magic cards. I've played it so many times when I shouldn't have been playing it.
It has a really cool history. It was created in a You Make the Card contest on the official Magic website over a series of votes.
Lands is just so cool
Lands decks are some of the most awesome to watch on this channel!
The Moment where he was creating one by one the Titania tokens and then he suddenly realized that he was also generating mana was so funny and good to watch 😂
And yet he managed to make exactly enough tokens to play Torstan even after tapping Cradle at the wrong moment.

Fumbling my way to victory ✌️
Love the way you draft, as well as your passion and joy for the game, Luis.
Never get tired of these sick lands decks
Sandydog & LSV:name a more iconic (vintage cube) duo.
I want a 6+ hour video on a Vintage Rotisserie Draft with the boys.
An LSV Rotisserie draft with commentary is my dream.
On a SUNDAY??!!!! Man this man is committed and I'm here for it!!
it must feel great when you make your living off your passion. i envy him on that.
It’s pretty awesome
He records a bunch, probably more than one a day. That’s how videos dropped while he was in Vegas.
I love these videos so much that I joined the discord and started drafting with all the cool people in there! I’d definitely recommend it to anyone considering it!
How did you do this?
Seconded

Sweet draft, I continue to love this format more than any other format of any game ever made.
With how much he's been hyped up this entire series... can we get a SandyDog draft perspective one of these days?
I see Zuran Orb I click 🤷🏻♀️
You gain 2 life and sac a land.
Are you me?

One of my favorite vintage cube decks you've ever drafted
I love how you can take a somewhat innocuous card like Zuran Orb and built an absolute house with it
Zuran Orb has been doing people dirty for decades. When it was in standard, so was balance
Yeah I thought it was a bad card but LSV showed me a thing or two.
The absolute glee in game one match two when he sees the cradle line 😂
I was like..
'oh, this is going to be nice'
'wait, does he see it?'
'come on, see it.'
'see it!'
'yeeees, good, good'

I would love to see Sandydog pov

Was there any consideration for Safekeeper over Zuran Orb? Doesn't it essentially do the same thing and fuel Cradle and have a more relevant effect?
i love these lands decks they’re so fun
Uwg land over omnath. The land is in perfect colors and great with crucible, but is omnath a better value engine? 4 colors is rough though
I'd have loved to see Omnath in this deck. He had all the fixing in the world, and still had opportunities to pick up even more! Would have been a fun addition, but I'm not sure it would have made the deck appreciably better.
I was not expecting a Hanson mmmbop cameo when I clicked this video, but here we are
I love when you draft lands and this was a banger
why was I so sure that tarpit and the other manlands were colorless? I was thinking you could snuff it out. I learn something new every day!
Turn 1 Creeping Tar Pit. I see we’re playing against the mirror universe version dandysog
4th Earrilingus
Obligatory algorithmic contribution
I was hoping to see some Sylvan Safekeeper action. It's basically a 1 mana Zuran Orb, as far as Titania and Crucible are concerned.
Praise the Zorb
It's zorbin time
Every time I see Explore pop up I think of Alex Bertincheaty...2 Explores
I feel like that ravages of war woulda been nice

Can anyone explain how at 46:50 Myr Battlesphere entering the battlefield takes the initiative?
The Myr Battlesphere doesn't, From The Catacombs takes the initiative when it resolves.
@@williamjohnson5022 I knew it couldn't be the sphere, that makes perfect sense! Missed the reanimate. Thank you very much :)

What cube is this, and is there a link to the list somewhere that I've just blindly missed?
"Don't have access to black mana yet" 6 free sources lol.
Why is 7 so much less mana than 8? It really is but it’s weird
Ravages not considered?
